“Gu Fei! You’ll finally take me to meet your Qing-Qing today, right?” As soon as Wednesday’s PE class started, Xi Wan cheerfully sidled up to Gu Fei, practically clinging to her arm.

“Okay, okay,” Gu Fei sighed, helplessly giving in.

Xi Wan jumped up from her seat, happily trailing behind Gu Fei as they headed toward the sports field.

Gu Qingqing and her classmates had already gathered on the sports field. Gu Fei saw her from afar, smiled and waved.

Gu Qingqing glanced over at her, lips curling into a faint smile, but the moment she saw Xi Wan beside her, the smile froze involuntarily. Gu Qingqing lowered her gaze and calmly looked away, expression unreadable.

Gu Fei: “……?”

Xi Wan joked, “Gu Fei, why is your Qing-Qing not the least bit enthusiastic about you?”

Gu Fei flicked Xi Wan hard on the forehead, “That’s called being cool and aloof, okay? Gu Qingqing is a cold beauty, get it?”

“Ouch——it hurts!” Xi Wan grabbed Gu Fei’s hand and dodged backwards.

Gu Qingqing turned her head inadvertently and took in this scene. Her eyes suddenly became more gloomy.

Soon, the classes had all lined up and begun their laps. Gu Fei didn’t join the group, she simply blinked at the PE teacher with a playful look.

The teacher also knew that although Gu Fei was an alpha, her body hadn’t fully adjusted to her pheromones yet, which was why her stamina was so poor. He waved his hand helplessly, “Alright, Little Gu Fei, just sit out and rest on the side.”

“You’re the best, sir,” Gu Fei said sweetly, then headed to the side of the field to watch the others run, mainly to watch Gu Qingqing.

Gu Qingqing ran faster today than in the last PE class. She was in the front row from the beginning, and her back showed a fierceness. When passing by the place where Gu Fei rested, Gu Qingqing glanced at her and ran even faster.

Gu Fei blinked in confusion.

What’s going on with Gu Qingqing today? Is she in a bad mood? But she seemed perfectly fine when we left the house this morning…

On the third lap, Gu Qingqing suddenly accelerated, surpassing one Alpha after another, and reached the finish line first. Seeing that Gu Qingqing was about to stop, Gu Fei walked over quickly and pulled her to continue walking slowly on the sports field.

“Gu Qingqing, don’t you know that you can’t stop to rest immediately after running?” Gu Fei complained.

Gu Qingqing was dragged away by her, her voice was very weak, “…I forgot.”

“Hey, what’s up with you today? In a bad mood or something? You totally ignored me just now.” Gu Fei’s cheeks puffed out slightly.

“Well… I’m a little tired from class.” Gu Qingqing didn’t dare to look at her back, her eyes fixed on the center of the sports field.

Gu Fei snorted, “You’re so tired, but you still run three laps?”

“I…” Gu Qingqing paused and whispered, “I run because I’m tired. It can relax my body.”

Gu Fei glared at her doubtfully, “Wu, then go to bed early tonight and don’t study until the early morning.”

“Okay.” Gu Qingqing’s voice was weak.

“Gu! Xiao! Fei!” Xi Wan’s excited voice suddenly rang out. Gu Fei turned around and saw Xi Wan leaning on Liu Xiaoxiao’s shoulder, waving at her energetically.

Tch. She probably ran straight to Liu Xiaoxiao after finishing three laps just to whine about how tired she was and make her hold her up. Shameless. Gu Fei snorted inwardly, then tugged Gu Qingqing along as they walked over.

“Come on, let me introduce you to Xi Wan, and that omega girl next to her. She’s our class monitor and also the class beauty. Oh, and Xi Wan’s little girlfriend…well, not officially. It’s just one-sided for now, Xi Wan’s the only one who likes her.”

Xi Wan’s…little girlfriend? Gu Qingqing froze for a moment, as if a heavy stone in her heart had finally dropped, bringing a sense of relief. But even so, she still wasn’t entirely sure.

Xi Wan greeted Gu Qingqing with a quick hello, then walked off contentedly with Liu Xiaoxiao in her arms. Though Liu Xiaoxiao looked annoyed, she still let Xi Wan cling to her. Gu Qingqing stared at their clingy backs, still not fully processing what she had just seen.

“Gu Qingqing, what are you thinking about?” Gu Fei waved her hand in front of Gu Qingqing.

Gu Qingqing snapped out of it, and subconsciously murmured under her breath, “Xi Wan…likes omegas?”

“Of course. Who else would she like, an Alpha?” Gu Fei blurted out, but the moment the words left her mouth, she realized something was off. Thinking back, Gu Qingqing had started acting “off” only after seeing her and Xi Wan together that morning. Gu Fei nearly exploded. “Wait a second, Gu Qingqing! Don’t tell me, you thought Xi Wan and I were into Alphas?!”

Gu Qingqing was stunned for a few seconds, did not answer, and looked away guiltily.

This means acknowledgment.

“You thought Xi Wan and I were perverts, and that’s why you were so cold to me today?” Gu Fei questioned furiously, her tone full of indignation.

Gu Fei remembered that Gu Qingqing had said that the people in the countryside where she used to live were not very accepting of AA relationships…so did she not accept it in her heart either?

At this time, Gu Qingqing immediately shook her head firmly, “I didn’t…”

Gu Fei: “And you just admitted you were in a bad mood! Said you were tired from class, huh?”

“I—I didn’t think there was anything wrong with you. And I definitely didn’t think you two were perverts,” Gu Qingqing lowered her head, hiding the flicker in her eyes as she mumbled softly, “I just…mistakenly thought you and Xi Wan were that kind of relationship, so I was a little…surprised.”

“No way! I would never be in that kind of relationship with Xi Wan!” Gu Fei exploded again, practically bristling. “Even if I did like Alphas, it would never be her! Gu Qingqing, you—you——!”

Why did Gu Qingqing have such a misunderstanding about her and Xi Wan!

At that moment, Gu Fei suddenly remembered Xi Wan recommending that AA romance movie to her, and the time she helped her reapply her barrier patch, which Gu Qingqing happened to witness. In an instant, she felt like crying but had no tears.

…Okay, fine. It really did kind of look like that.

The corners of Gu Fei’s mouth twitched.

Gu Qingqing had her head lowered, so she couldn’t see Gu Fei’s expression. When Gu Fei suddenly fell silent, she thought she must be angry. Gu Qingqing’s presence instantly shrank, her aura becoming as meek as possible. She reached out and gently pinched the hem of Gu Fei’s shirt, her voice barely a whisper;

“Gu Fei, I was wrong. I shouldn’t have misunderstood you. I’m sorry. Please don’t be angry, okay?”

Gu Qingqing wasn’t an Omega, but in that moment, her voice was soft, delicate as an Omega’s, tinged with a faint whimper at the end, somewhere between a spoiled murmur and a tender complaint.

Which Alpha can resist such a soft voice?

Gu Fei couldn’t handle it, anyway.

She raised her head with a quiet hum, gently taking Gu Qingqing’s hand and leading her toward the quiet, empty track beneath the covered walkway.

As they walked, Gu Fei whispered, “Well, Xi Wan and I have known each other since middle school, and yeah, we’re pretty close. She’s my best friend. So after we both differentiated…we didn’t end up repelling each other like most Alphas do. In fact, since we’re both Alphas, we actually had more in common, and got even closer. But it’s strictly just friendship, there’s no way anything romantic would happen between us.”

Gu Qingqing nodded seriously, looking very obedient.

The two sat down on the bench and began to chat quietly, and the topic soon shifted away from Xi Wan.

“Meow~” A black kitten came out of the bushes with its tail held high, and jumped onto the bench as if no one was around. Gu Qingqing looked at the kitten with gentle eyes, and sat down in the direction of Gu Fei to make room for it.

The little black cat raised its chin, “Meow.”

It was like thanking her.

A faint smile appeared on Gu Qingqing’s face, and Gu Fei also let out a soft chuckle, “This is a cat the teachers keep at school. It often sneaks into the first-floor classrooms to ‘audit’ classes. It has a really good temper—do you want to pet it?”

Gu Qingqing nodded, carefully reached out her hand, and scratched the little black cat’s chin.

Her movements, the gentle smile in her eyes, the soft expression on her face, all revealed her love for the kitten.

“Meow-wuwu.” The little black cat felt very comfortable being touched.

Gu Fei hadn’t mentioned the matter of raising a cat to Gu Qingqing yet, so she took the opportunity to say, “If you like, you can raise one…or two at home.”

Gu Qingqing’s fingers that were touching the cat froze for a moment.

She shook her head, her voice a little low, “No need.”

“…this is nice,” Gu Qingqing murmured as she got up from the bench and crouched in front of the kitten, her gaze meeting it at just the right height.

“Don’t you like cats?” Gu Fei asked in confusion.

“I really like it,” Gu Qingqing said softly.

“Then why…don’t you want to keep a cat?”

Gu Qingqing pressed her lips together, instinctively avoiding the question. But just then, Gu Fei’s fingers brushed softly along the roots of her hair before ruffling it in a comforting gesture.

Gu Fei rubbed her head as if she was rubbing a cat’s head.

As gentle as the sunshine.

Just then, the clouds in the sky were blown apart by the wind, and a slanting beam of sunlight streamed into the covered walkway, falling softly around the bench.

Gu Qingqing raised her head, looked at Gu Fei, and said softly, “Because I feel that I am not capable of being responsible for a life right now.”

“I see…” Gu Fei squatted beside her, thought for a while, and suddenly smiled brightly, “Then don’t keep one for now! I’ll take you to a cat cafe this weekend to pet cats, hehe.”

Gu Qingqing was stunned for a moment, then nodded heavily.

…

…

The school days passed quickly, and in the blink of an eye, it was already the weekend.

In the cat café, Gu Qingqing was dazzled by the variety of kittens around her, her eyes sparkling with endless light.

Gu Fei lifted her chin proudly and introduced them one by one, “This one’s a Ragdoll, that’s a Siamese, and this is a British Shorthair…”

The surrounding little kitties heard Gu Fei’s voice and came over, meowing jealously. For a moment, not only was Gu Qingqing at a loss, unsure of which cat to pet first, but even Gu Fei felt a little dizzy, like she’d suddenly found herself in heaven.

Being surrounded by fluffy little kittens was just too, too, too blissful!

After petting the kittens for a while, their eyes drifted away from the purebred cats and landed on a little yellow tabby curled up in the corner.

Gu Fei recognized it at a glance, it was the same cat she had seen outside the shop before, “Hey…this kitty used to be a stray, I think. I didn’t expect the café to take it in.”

A week had passed, and the little yellow cat’s fur looked much cleaner, and it had even visibly gained some weight. Though it now lived a life of comfort and care, it still chose to curl up alone in a dim corner, leisurely licking its own fur, exuding a quiet air of detachment, like it didn’t quite fit in with the others.

Gu Qingqing looked at the cats around her, then looked at the little yellow cat, and whispered, “It’s different from other cats.”

Gu Fei asked, “Why?”

“I feel…it’s very lonely.” Gu Qingqing said in a low voice.

Even though it was living a princess-like life in the café, compared to the other cats, it somehow still felt like a wild weed that had grown up outside, no matter how hard it tried to fit in, it was never truly accepted.

Gu Fei’s brows furrowed slightly as she tightened her grip on Gu Qingqing’s fingers and shook her head, “Obviously, it is arrogant.”

It wasn’t that it couldn’t blend in with the other cats, it simply didn’t care to. It had no interest in fitting in, and no concern for the others at all.

Gu Qingqing felt the warmth on her hand. Before she had time to ponder the meaning of Gu Fei’s words, a gentle and shy male voice suddenly sounded, interrupting her thoughts.

“Gu Fei, Gu Qingqing, good afternoon…?” A boy wearing the cat café’s staff uniform stood behind them, offering the two a gentle smile.

Gu Qingqing instinctively glanced at Gu Fei, who tilted her head in confusion, until she remembered, this was the same boy who had fed the yellow kitten canned food last week.

“Do you know us?” Gu Fei asked, frowning slightly.

The boy looked momentarily stunned, “You don’t recognize me?”

“Are you…famous or something?” Gu Fei asked in confusion.

“No, no, not at all.” The boy quickly waved his hands and introduced himself, “I’m a third-year student at Haicheng High School too, in the Rocket Class on the second floor. My name is Yi Junkun. I just thought… since our classes aren’t that far apart, maybe you’d heard of me.”

At Haicheng High School, most students in the international classes were privileged kids preparing to study abroad, while those in the Rocket Class were also from wealthy families but the kind with exceptionally good grades.

Gu Fei thought for a moment and realized she had no impression of the name Yi Junkun. When she saw Gu Qingqing also shake her head to indicate she didn’t know him either, she finally responded politely, “Classmate Yi, do you work part-time here at the cat café?”

“Mm…not exactly,” Yi Junkun said as he called over two little kittens and gently placed them into Gu Fei and Gu Qingqing’s arms, “I’m technically a shareholder here. I love cats, so I come by on weekends to help out.”

“I see…” Gu Fei nodded politely while petting the kitten in her arms. Gu Qingqing, her attention fully focused on the cat, also nodded along absentmindedly.

Seeing that neither of them had any intention of continuing the conversation with him, Yi Junkun scratched his head awkwardly, exchanged a few words of greeting, and left tactfully.

As soon as Yi Junkun walked away, Gu Fei pulled out her phone and typed out a message. Gu Qingqing opened it on WeChat, and her eyes instantly curved with a smile.

Gu Fei: [Don’t be fooled by how good-looking that Yi guy is. Everyone in our International class knows, those Rocket Class students are all just wolves in sheep’s clothing! Dealing with them always ends in getting played.]

Gu Qingqing chuckled and replied: [Have you ever suffered a loss? (Cute cat emoji package.jpg)]

Gu Fei didn’t reply right away. When Gu Qingqing looked up, she saw the girl in front of her seemingly lost in thought. Her cheeks puffed out slightly as she let out a long, exaggerated sigh like she was sulking. She was obviously angry, but she was so cute.

Gu Qingqing laughed lightly and buried her head in typing: [Got it ovo. I’ll be obedient and not associate with the bad kids in the Rocket Class. ]

Gu Fei: [That’s more like it. ]

…

…

That evening, a discussion thread quietly popped up on the school forum: [I saw Senior Qingqing at Senior Yi’s cat café today!]

Post content: [Senior Yi was talking so gently with Senior Qingqing. Sister Fei was there too, but I couldn’t hear what they were saying…okay, off-topic, but suddenly, I feel like Senior Yi and Senior Qingqing actually make a pretty good match. Don’t you think so? First of all, they’re both ordinary people, and their family backgrounds are well-matched too. It’s like a prince-and-princess story straight out of a novel!]

There was even a blurry photo attached at the end, showing Yi Junkun, Gu Qingqing, and Gu Fei standing together.

Although Yi Junkun wasn’t as famously well-known as Gu Fei at school, quite a few people still knew who he was.

After all, even in the regular classes, the number of ordinary people would not exceed five, not to mention the International class and the Rocket class, where Yi Junkun was the only ordinary person among nearly a hundred people. Although he was an ordinary person, his grades were exceptionally good, and he always ranked first in the grade.

The Yi family that Yi Junkun came from was also one of the most prominent families in Haicheng, and he was very likely the heir. Combined with his good looks, he had never been isolated at school, even in an environment where regular people were often looked down on. On the contrary, quite a few students saw him as a “campus heartthrob.”

Perhaps because it involved student privacy, the post was quickly hidden. Before that, there were only a dozen or so replies, most of them agreed that Gu Qingqing and Yi Junkun were indeed a good match, but there were still a few comments laced with mockery toward Gu Qingqing.

[Gu Qingqing and Senior Yi? Please. Senior Yi has amazing grades, but Gu Qingqing, even if she’s the Gu family’s precious daughter, was raised in the countryside due to poor health. That’s a fact. She’s basically a country bumpkin who probably can’t even pass a test. How could she possibly be worthy of someone like Senior Yi?]

A student from the regular class immediately responded: [We had exams on the first day of school, Gu Qingqing passed every subject. I can vouch for that.]

[So what if she passed every subject? Don’t tell me you don’t know how easy the exams are in the regular class? Let’s not even talk about the Rocket Class, even your top student in the regular class isn’t on par with those spoiled rich kids in the International Class. Are you seriously trying to say that just because a country bumpkin passed some regular class exams, her grades are somehow worthy of someone like Senior Yi?]

The next day, just after morning reading ended in the Rocket Class, a few girls in the back row started winking and nudging a Beta girl sitting in the corner, “Liu Yu, did you see that post yesterday?”

Liu Yu lay on her desk in frustration and rolled her eyes at them. “Yeah, I saw it. Saying that country bumpkin and God Yi are a couple? Ugh, it seriously pissed me off.”

Everyone in the class knew that Liu Yu had liked Yi Junkun for two years, and she had just confessed last week, only to be rejected. Now, seeing a CP post pairing Gu Qingqing with Yi Junkun, she was probably about to explode from rage.

“Yes, that’s God Yi. Is Gu Qingqing worthy of him?”

“But… I heard the Gu family pulled some strings. They said that as long as Gu Qingqing makes it into the top 100 in the midterms, she’ll be allowed to transfer into the International Class or the Rocket Class. Gu Qingqing’s an ordinary person, so her college entrance exam results are really important to her, she’ll probably choose the Rocket Class, right? If that happens, she and God Yi would be the only two regular people in the class. What if they really end up falling for each other?”

What does it mean to have only one male and one female regular person in the whole class? It’s basically like having just one omega and one alpha, practically a match made in heaven!

“Bah!” Liu Yu glared at the girl who spoke, “Almost everyone in the top 100 is from the Rocket Class or the International Class. She’s just an ignorant country bumpkin—if she actually manages to score that high, I’ll be shocked!”

Gu Fei and Gu Qingqing didn’t know about the discussion post in the forum that was quickly blocked, nor did they know what happened in the Rocket Class. They still led a regular and busy study life every day.

——Gu Fei lived a fairly routine life, but if anyone was busy, it was Gu Qingqing. She studied at school during the day, went home to review with Gu Fei, and once Gu Fei went to bed, she would stay up alone at the desk reading until late at night, only lying down beside Gu Fei when she was finally done.

Several times in the middle of the night, Gu Fei would wake up in a sleepy daze. In her half-awake state, the first thing she’d see was Gu Qingqing’s focused side profile, bathed in the warm glow of the lamp.

A month passed in the blink of an eye.

During the first monthly exam, while having breakfast in the morning, Gu Hupo and Ju Yan, who were on a business trip, specifically made a video call back home.

“Qing-Qing, and Zai-Zai, don’t be nervous about the exam, okay? It doesn’t matter how you do it!” Gu Hupo said casually and cheerfully.

Ju Yan smiled gently and looked directly into Gu Qingqing’s eyes in the video, “Just do your best, don’t feel burdened.”

Gu Fei believed in Gu Qingqing’s ability. Gu Qingqing had a good foundation to begin with, and she had made rapid progress in tutoring these days. She had seen it all.

Gu Fei hadn’t been nervous at first, but after being fussed over by their two moms, she started to feel a little anxious, worried something might go wrong during Gu Qingqing’s exam. She didn’t rest easy until she personally dropped her off outside the exam room.

The monthly exam lasted two days. After the first day, on the way home, Gu Fei casually turned her head and asked, “Gu Qingqing, how did you feel about today?”

Gu Qingqing thought for a moment. “It should be…okay?”

“Really?”

Gu Fei recalled that last month, when she asked Gu Qingqing how her test went, she had given the same response. Yet in reality, she had chosen to study alone in secret, endured mockery from the class troublemakers for her poor grades, and never once asked her for help! Gu Fei’s eyes instantly widened in frustration.

“Really——” Gu Qingqing drawled playfully, her tone sweet like a pout, gently swinging Gu Fei’s hand as she spoke.

Only after confirming that Gu Qingqing wasn’t just brushing her off did Gu Fei finally look away, a smile creeping into her eyes. “That’s good, then.”

On Friday, the results for the entire grade came out.

When the homeroom teacher of the Regular class walked in holding the grade sheets, her face was beaming with joy, especially when looking at Gu Qingqing, the smile in her eyes was impossible to hide.

Yang Xiaoxiao frowned in disgust. Ever since she returned to class after a week-long leave, her classmates’ attitudes toward her had completely changed. It was all because of Gu Qingqing, she was the reason Yang Xiaoxiao was being isolated!

However, seeing the homeroom teacher’s smile, Yang Xiaoxiao suddenly had a bad feeling. Could it be that Gu Qingqing did really well on the exam? No, no way, that’s impossible. She only scored around the middle of the class last time. It’s just been a month, how much better could she really have done?

Yang Xiaoxiao thought so, but she couldn’t help but look at the teacher projecting the report card.

On the projection screen, the grade list gradually came into focus, becoming clearer and clearer. Then…Yang Xiaoxiao didn’t see Gu Qingqing’s name in the middle of the list. She instinctively looked further down, still nothing. Finally, in disbelief, she looked up, and was completely stunned.

“How is it possible…”

Gu Qingqing’s name was prominently listed at the top, ranking second in the class and ninety-eighth in the grade.

The whole class was in an uproar.

The Rocket Class was also announcing their grades,Yi Junkun remained firmly in first place in the entire year, as always. Liu Yu was usually ranked somewhere in the fifties, but this time she got 44th place. A few of her girlfriends immediately came over, saying, “Xiao Yu, you improved this time! That’s awesome!”

“Of course,” Liu Yu stretched lazily, a hint of pride in her tone. “I just never really put effort into studying before. Once I started trying in senior year, I accidentally made it into the top 50.” She paused, then added casually, “I wonder how that country bumpkin did?”

“Probably somewhere around 300th or 400th in the grade,” One of the girls replied offhandedly. “Even if she somehow gets lucky and squeezes into the top 100 for the midterms, this is only the first monthly exam. No matter how hard she tries, there’s only so much she could’ve learned.”

“I think so too. She’s just a country bumpkin, after all.”

Just as Liu Yu finished speaking, a boy burst into the classroom and shouted excitedly, “Guys, holy crap! I just checked the grade rankings, looks like after the midterms, we might be getting a new classmate! And here’s a hint: she’s a total knockout!”

“Which dark horse is approaching the top 50 again?”

“Wait a sec — when you say ‘total knockout,’ you don’t mean that Gu Qingqing from the Gu family, do you?”

“Bingo! You guessed it.” The boy snapped his fingers. “I heard that although her last exam scores weren’t great, she managed to break into the top 100 in just a month. With a bit more time, hitting the top 50 next month shouldn’t be too hard, right? And even if she doesn’t make it, with the Gu family backing her, she’ll definitely end up in our class anyway. Hehe.”

As the boy passed by Yi Junkun, he winked and patted him on the shoulder.

Liu Yu’s face turned dark blue in an instant.

“Who says getting into the top 100 means it’s easy to get into the top 50!” Liu Yu slammed her desk and stood up abruptly.

The boy who spoke gave her a puzzled look and tried to soothe her, saying, “I know you’ve always been upset about not making it into the top 50, but you studied day and night all summer, and look, you made it in this time, didn’t you? I wasn’t targeting you.”

Liu Yu claimed she hadn’t been putting in effort, which was why she never made it into the top 50 in the grade. But in reality, ever since she developed a crush on Yi Junkun in her first year of high school, she had been studying relentlessly. All her free time outside of class had been taken up by extra tutoring, something everyone in the class knew.

The boy’s words hit Liu Yu’s sore spot, and she was so angry that she almost picked up the book and threw it at him.

“Don’t be mad, Liu Yu. He’s just a typical straight-A type with zero tact, you know how he is,” One of her friends quickly tried to calm her. “Maybe Gu Qingqing just got lucky this time. She’ll probably show her true colors by the midterms.”

“Exactly. The proctors weren’t even that strict during the monthly exams, she might’ve cheated, who knows? Don’t let it get to you, Liu Yu,” Another chimed in.

Liu Yu scoffed sharply. “If she manages to get into the top 100 again in the midterms, I’ll screw my head off and use it as a soccer ball!”
