“The reason I looked upset in the first photo was because she could’ve picked better food, but she was being too hard on herself and not taking care of her health! I walked away because I went to get food for her!” Gu Fei lifted her chin and explained, “And in the second photo, I don’t even know why she bent over like that, but I’m sure of one thing, she. did. not. cry! We had lunch together. If she had cried, I would’ve noticed it for sure.”

“And that third photo, she was being bullied by some punks in her class, and I was standing up for her. I have no idea how it ended up looking like I was flipping her desk…” Gu Fei reached out and poked Xi Wan’s forehead, her tone exasperated, “Xi Wan, we’ve known each other for years. Don’t you know what kind of person I am by now?”

“Gu Xiao Fei, I  was wrong,” Xi Wan put her hands together, earnestly making a gesture of apology.

“Can’t be bothered with you,” Gu Fei snorted softly and continued scrolling through the chat history.

In addition to the anonymous ones, there were several real-name replies in the group. One of them, with the ID “XiaoXiaoYang”, was the most enthusiastic. While echoing the anonymous words, he called Gu Qingqing an illegitimate daughter and said that she was not only ugly, but also lonely and that no one in the class liked her.

Each “illegitimate daughter” comment made Gu Fei’s head throb. She shot a glance at Xi Wan and asked, “Didn’t you help clear things up for me on Monday?”

Xi Wan scratched her head awkwardly, “I did try to explain, but…”

Gu Fei flipped through the chat history and found that Xi Wan had indeed repeated her words in the group, and also criticized Chen Xiaoxian. As a result, she was banned by the administrator because her words were too intense.

As for the clarification part, few people were willing to read it.

Kids at this age were mostly in their rebellious phase, especially those in the gossip group. They only believe what they want to believe. Compared to “Gu Qingqing is the biological daughter raised in the countryside,” the version where “Gu Qingqing is the Gu family’s illegitimate child” clearly feeds their darker, more voyeuristic curiosity much better.

Gu Fei watched silently for a while, then threw the phone back to Xi Wan, and lay back on the table in a sullen manner, “Xi Wan-Wan, help me pay attention to the movements in the group. Tell me if anyone posts anything about Gu Qingqing.”

“Okay!” Xi Wan took the phone and asked worriedly, “Gu Fei, how are you going to deal with this?”

Gu Fei let out a sigh, her voice uncharacteristically cold,  “Let’s just go straight to the police after school. There are over a hundred people in that group, this already counts as public defamation.”

Since clarification won’t do much good, she’ll have to use the weapons of the law.

Xi Wan exaggeratedly opened her mouth and gave her a “you’re awesome” gesture.

However, before the school was over, the incident had spread throughout the school by noon.

Someone had moved the group chat to the school forum, and now not only the group, but the entire school exploded.

Student 1: [The Gu family actually let the mistress’s daughter study in our school? It turns out that they can do whatever they want just because they have money. Tsk tsk.]

Student 2: [Will this kind of person distort our academic style? Can we file a complaint and have her expelled from school?]

Most of the students in Gu Qingqing’s class hadn’t known about the gossip in the group chat, but after seeing the post, their gazes toward her changed. No matter who entered the classroom, they would first glance in her direction, then immediately frown in disgust and look away, as if just a few more seconds of looking at her would somehow soil their eyes.

A boy poked Yang Xiaoxiao on the shoulder and said slyly, “Our Sister Yang really is sharp. You saw through Gu Qingqing a few days ago, I thought back then you just didn’t like her because she was pretty.”

“I’m an Omega, why would I be jealous of ordinary people?”  Yang Xiaoxiao crossed her arms, “And sure, she looks…passable, I guess, but with that outdated style? She’s just a clueless bumpkin. Only beta boys like you, who care about nothing but looks, would be into someone like her.”

As she spoke, Yang Xiaoxiao turned to glance behind her. At that moment, Gu Qingqing was quietly working through practice problems, her head bowed. Even with half her face hidden by her hair and a pair of black-rimmed glasses perched on her nose, her side profile exuded an indescribable aura, elegant, composed, and even…a little aloof? In any case, she was nothing like a so-called country bumpkin.

Yang Xiaoxiao frowned, took out her phone and pointed it at Gu Qingqing, dimmed the light, shook the phone again, and pressed the shutter button before the focus was set. She glanced at the photo, a mocking smile appeared on the corner of her lips, and she opened the campus forum to post a message.

The Beta boy next to him was still chattering, “But Yang Xiaoxiao, didn’t you smell Sister Fei’s pheromones on Gu Qingqing’s jacket yesterday? If Gu Fei really hated Gu Qingqing so much, why would she put pheromones on her jacket?”

Sister Wei, who was sleeping in the corner, turned over and glanced at them, “What’s the matter?”

During lunch, Gu Fei noticed that the students around her looked at her and Gu Qingqing with strange eyes. However, most of the students only dared to glance at her and look away because of her reputation as a school tyrant.

Gu Qingqing just picked up a piece of meat for her and stared at her with a tilted head and a faint smile.

Gu Fei instinctively wanted to refuse, but then she thought it was just Gu Qingqing helping her pick up some food, it’s not like they were sharing the same piece of meat. There was nothing to be embarrassed about. So she pushed her bowl forward a little and said awkwardly, “…thanks. You should eat more too.”

“Yeah, I know. I will take good care of myself.” Gu Qingqing curved her eyebrows slightly.

Students who secretly glimpsed this scene from a distance said: “Fuck, Gu Qingqing is picking up food for Sister Fei! She is really trying every way to please Sister Fei!”

“Look, Sister Fei is lecturing her!”
