Chapter 20: Record of an Evil Male Ghost Luring an Innocent Puppy

Xu Jiu wasn’t in a hurry to pressure Cao Weidong. The six thousand yuan briefly fluttered before Cao Weidong’s eyes before returning to Xu Jiu’s palm, where it fanned idly.

This amount wasn’t enough for a single meal in Xu Jiu’s eyes—it might as well have been a grain of dust.

But for Cao Weidong, it was different. Six thousand yuan was enough to buy his life.

The thought made the bills feel heavier in Xu Jiu’s hand, striking his palm like a whip, sending a numbing thrill through it.

Xu Jiu raised an eyebrow and glanced at Cao Weidong’s knees. No reaction.

This shouldn’t be hard for a spineless coward like you, right?

Xu Jiu had already planned it out: the moment Cao Weidong knelt, he would step on his shoulder, grab his hair, and laughingly say, Just kidding!

But.

Cao Weidong’s knees remained as unresponsive as the rest of him.

Xu Jiu pressed the sole of his shoe against Cao Weidong’s kneecap, applying pressure. It’s not like I haven’t beaten you into apologizing before. Why are your knees so stiff this time? Hurry up.

Cao Weidong took a step forward. Xu Jiu’s leg stiffened, and his brow furrowed.

Something felt wrong. Xu Jiu wanted to flee.

But his position had already trapped him within Cao Weidong’s encirclement. Or perhaps, from the very beginning, Xu Jiu had been pinned between Cao Weidong and the table—he just hadn’t shown fear, so the awkwardness wasn’t obvious.

Now, however, the dynamics had shifted. The inferiority once masked by bravado was now laid bare.

Cao Weidong had intentions toward him.

Whether it was the intention to kill him or to sleep with him first and then kill him, Xu Jiu couldn’t tell.

Cao Weidong seized Xu Jiu’s gaze. His dark eyes, no longer hidden beneath his disheveled bangs, poured undisguised malice into Xu Jiu’s pupils, shattering his amber-like irises into a chaotic mess.

It wasn’t so much that Cao Weidong was listening to Xu Jiu speak, but rather that he had been actively observing him all along.

Like a motionless spider poised on its web, he remained still for a long time, yet his compound eyes never left the prey.

Every movement of the prey filled each facet of the spider’s pupils.

The web trembled.

Cao Weidong moved.

His left hand clamped around Xu Jiu’s ankle, the exposed sliver of skin above his sock turning pale from the lack of blood.

Xu Jiu leaned back, desperate to pull away, but the moment he shifted on the table—even slightly—Cao Weidong’s hand shot to his throat.

Thud—

The back of Xu Jiu’s head hit the table. The cold from the surface rushed into his body from all directions, as if determined to steal every last bit of warmth from him.

In the chaos, Xu Jiu’s hand brushed against a small, cold, square object. Without caring what it was, he grabbed it and smashed it against Cao Weidong’s right arm.

Once, then again.

The small square crumpled and flattened, its packaging torn open in places. Xu Jiu’s hand slipped, and the object fell with a soft slap onto his face.

Xu Jiu’s clear eyes widened. The moment he recognized what had landed on his face, his voice and movements shrank with fear.

How could it be a condom?!

What did Cao Weidong buy this for?!

Lunatic. Xu Jiu cursed him, but only dared to glare with his eyes, unable to raise his voice.

Cao Weidong listened quietly, his right index finger resting on Xu Jiu’s neck lightly tapping against his Adam’s apple, feeling the tremors radiating from that spot with each shudder of Xu Jiu’s body.

Cao Weidong found it strange. Although his right arm exerted some restraining force, his hand merely encircled Xu Jiu’s neck. If Xu Jiu wanted to escape, he could easily break free from the grasp at any moment.

Cao Weidong’s right hand couldn’t truly restrain Xu Jiu, and Xu Jiu—the instigator of this situation—knew this perfectly well, yet he remained motionless.

Suddenly, Cao Weidong recalled something. The lifelessness on his face subtly dissipated as his pupils shifted, sweeping across Xu Jiu’s face, then his neck, finally settling on a patch of pale skin below his collarbone.

His gaze sharpened into a blade, its edge aimed at the collar of Xu Jiu’s shirt.

What are you looking at? Xu Jiu snapped angrily, yet didn’t dare to shout.

He wasn’t afraid of death—he was afraid of that box of condoms being used on him, which would be worse than death.

Cao Weidong placed his left hand on Xu Jiu’s neck as well.

Just as Cao Weidong had anticipated, Xu Jiu’s legs now free, didn’t struggle. Instead, with both hands crossed and overlapping on his neck, he appeared even more like someone resigned to their fate, almost as if anticipating something.

Like his death-seeking dog.

A thought flashed through Cao Weidong’s mind.

He leaned down, bringing his face close to Xu Jiu’s.

Xu Jiu glared at him, those captivating peach-blossom eyes filled entirely with rage and shame. Emotions ran wild across his face, his features contorting as they wrestled with each other, tearing at facial muscles until his delicate face appeared on the verge of splitting apart.

Fury, humiliation, fear.

These three elements burst wildly in Xu Jiu’s eyes like fireworks. Xu Jiu had never been one to conceal his emotions.

Cao Weidong was his opposite. The two stared at each other in this bizarre standoff—one wishing he could devour the other alive, the other unconditionally absorbing the outpouring of emotion like stone.

Cao Weidong’s lips parted slightly, a meaningless hmm slipping from the corner of his mouth.

Xu Jiu grew alert, eyes fixed unblinkingly on Cao Weidong’s mouth.

His gaze felt like a kiss, biting at those lips.

Cao Weidong let out a subtle chuckle through his nose.

Interesting.

Xu Jiu quickly realized he’d been played by Cao Weidong again.

The other didn’t even need words or actions—just parting his lips to emit a meaningless sound was enough to make Xu Jiu tuck his tail between his legs.

You—! Xu Jiu gritted his teeth, but after a moment’s thought quickly suppressed his emotions. Mimicking Cao Weidong’s death-like composure, he tilted his head and stared motionlessly elsewhere.

Go ahead and strangle me if you have the guts. Xu Jiu surrendered.

Cao Weidong’s hand gently encircled Xu Jiu’s neck, lightly tightening to leave a faint red mark on the pale skin.

Like a chain, like a collar—anything but an attempt to choke someone.

Pressed against Xu Jiu’s ear, Cao Weidong said abruptly:

You’re enjoying this.

Xu Jiu’s eyes flew wide open, his constricted pupils darting frantically within their widened sockets.

His entire body stiffened as if plunged into an ice cellar, his face flooded with unconcealable shock.

Yes, Xu Jiu was enjoying it—enjoying the helplessness of being controlled by Cao Weidong, as if everything suspended mid-air had finally settled firmly on the ground.

Cao Weidong’s voice pierced through Xu Jiu’s ears like an arrow, shooting straight from left to right, stirring the brain matter that had just cooled down into restless turmoil once more.

Xu Jiu felt like a rat hiding in the sewers, suddenly dragged out into broad daylight by Cao Weidong. The intense discomfort brought on extreme nausea, as if fire were burning in his stomach.

He shouldn’t have come to find Cao Weidong alone.

Xu Jiu was no match for Cao Weidong.

Xu Jiu let out an awkward sound under Cao Weidong’s grip.

Cao Weidong remained expressionless. Even after getting the confirmation he wanted from Xu Jiu, his face showed neither joy nor surprise.

His emotions were as faint as air.

This indifference only worsened Xu Jiu’s physical discomfort.

His throat ached, making him nauseous.

When Cao Weidong tried to release him, Xu Jiu grabbed his wrist to prevent his escape.

Not going to fight back? You’ll regret it.

Xu Jiu stared at Cao Weidong—not with a glare, but with the probing gaze of someone in an inferior position, carefully watching his every move.

Before Cao Weidong could respond to Xu Jiu’s suspended emotions, the dormitory door was kicked open with a bang.

Pan Yu burst in with two lackeys, and the first scene they witnessed was Cao Weidong pinning his good brother Xu Jiu against the table by the neck, with Xu Jiu’s face flushed dark red, looking as if he were about to vomit in panic.

What the hell? Beating up my brother!

Pan Yu’s fists instantly tightened. His two lackeys, after a quick assessment, promptly stepped forward to pull Cao Weidong and Xu Jiu apart.

Pan Yu kicked out and snarled, Haven’t had enough of being beaten?!

Xu Jiu shakily sat up, pressing his hands against his neck to cover the still-burning red mark left by Cao Weidong.

He coughed violently twice, and along with the coughing came the sound of fists hitting flesh from Cao Weidong’s direction.

Cao Weidong let out a pained grunt.

Pan Yu glanced around, grabbed a nearby chair, and smashed it against Cao Weidong’s head. The chair shattered with a loud crash.

Pan Yu then broke off a chair leg, gripped it tightly, and raised his arm to strike down: Think you’re tough? Let’s see if your bones are harder than iron!

Who do you think you are, daring to lay a hand on him!

Don’t kill him, Xu Jiu interjected deliberately.

Tch, this bastard’s life isn’t worth much. Easy to deal with.

Xu Jiu emphasized again, Don’t kill him!

Oh— Pan Yu replied with a displeased drawl.

The stick in Pan Yu’s hand broke, yet Cao Weidong didn’t make a sound.

Got a cigarette? Xu Jiu suddenly interrupted them.

Pan Yu patted his pockets and tossed the cigarette pack to Xu Jiu.

Xu Jiu wiped his face, hands trembling as he walked out of the dorm to smoke. He tried lighting up while walking, but the flame kept going out every time his hand shook.

He didn’t know what was happening inside the room, nor did he have the mood to find out.

It was just beating—beating to death—and then Xu Jiu would go back in to stir up some more hatred.

No need to endure those scorpion-like piercing stares, no fear of being seen through, and no need to exert effort to provoke hostility.

A win-win situation.

Xu Jiu took a deep breath. The smoke clung to his face, stinging his eyes until they felt wet and sticky.

He wiped his face again but soon shook his hand in disgust. He had smoked too much today; his hands reeked completely.

Clenching the cigarette between his teeth, Xu Jiu turned and went back into the dorm to call a stop.

The three men stopped and looked toward Xu Jiu. The man slumped against the wall was covered in bruises, his head bloodied, a rare weariness showing through his battered form.

As soon as Xu Jiu entered, Cao Weidong’s dagger-like gaze shot toward him.

Xu Jiu met the hostile stare and walked over to stand before Cao Weidong.

Pan Yu stood off to the side, arm slung over one of his lackeys’ shoulders, snickering scornfully. Cheap life, but stubborn as hell. Won’t make a sound no matter how hard we hit him.

Xu Jiu crouched down, a nearly burnt-out cigarette pinched between his fingers. He pressed it into Cao Weidong’s palm, twisting until it went out.

Sizzle—the sound of scorching.

Cao Weidong’s palm was already coated in a layer of hardened ash. When the dying ember was ground against it, there was only a tingling numbness mixed with a wave of searing heat.

Get out, Xu Jiu ordered.

Pan Yu clicked his tongue in annoyance, but when Xu Jiu shot him a look, he reluctantly obeyed, leading his two underlings outside to wait.

Xu Jiu rubbed his fingers together, then, with a hint of malice, wiped the lingering warmth and stench of tobacco across Cao Weidong’s lips. He rubbed roughly, smearing the congealed blood at the corner of Cao Weidong’s mouth until the skin flushed red.

What’s with the condom? Xu Jiu asked, voicing the question that had puzzled him for so long.

Cao Weidong, who had been still for so long, finally stirred. He let out a low, pained breath through his nose, then opened his eyes to look at Xu Jiu, his gaze openly aggressive.

Want to know?

Xu Jiu nodded.

The blood at the corner of Cao Weidong’s mouth, smeared by Xu Jiu’s own hand, trailed upward like the tail of a smirk—almost as if he were smiling.

Against his chest, hidden inside his clothes, a glass vial suddenly radiated a scorching, dangerous heat, making the fabric over Cao Weidong’s heart tremble.

Come closer. A little more.
