Domineering Sponsor (GL) - Chapter 8
Wei Xia did not set too many rules for Ji Haolan. They were mostly things like always being available when called and not messing around outside. When it came to keeping a lover, Zhou Lu was quite experienced and often shared tips and insights with Wei Xia.
For someone paid to be around, there was no point in expecting too much. As long as they stayed obedient in front of you, that was good enough. There was no such thing as a clever lover who behaved in private. You could not control everything they did. But if they came when called and at least pretended to be cheerful while serving you, that was acceptable.
Wei Xia, however, wanted more. She did not even place limits on Ji Haolan’s spending. The card she had given her was a supplementary card to her own black card, with a credit limit Ji Haolan could not even imagine. Wei Xia knew Ji Haolan was still reluctant for now, but that did not matter. She would get a firm grip on her first and slowly raise expectations. Demanding too much at once would only make even a timid rabbit fight back.
“Give me your phone number,” Wei Xia said.
Ji Haolan quietly recited the digits. Wei Xia appeared to be entering it into her phone, but she had already found the number earlier. She had looked into a lot of Ji Haolan’s information, including her phone number. This was simply a little test to see if Ji Haolan would lie.
Ji Haolan had no idea this was a sudden pop quiz and reported her number honestly. Wei Xia looked down at her screen. Perfect. Not a single digit wrong.
Then she signaled Ji Haolan to take out her phone so she could note it.
Ji Haolan slowly pulled out her phone, and Wei Xia immediately frowned. “What kind of junk phone is that?”
To be fair, Ji Haolan’s phone was old and had been dropped several times. It looked ready to collapse at any moment.
Wei Xia had seen enough. She grabbed Ji Haolan and pulled her away.
That entire day, Ji Haolan was dragged around by Wei Xia, visiting place after place that required spending money. Wei Xia believed that since Ji Haolan now belonged to her, she represented her image. Looking too rustic would not do. She happened to have time that day, so she decided to give Ji Haolan a full makeover.
Ji Haolan resisted as much as she could, but Wei Xia tugged her into one high-end store after another.
Inside the fitting room, Ji Haolan said she did not like changing in front of others. Only then did Wei Xia send away the eager sales associates who wanted to help the VIP client. She left Ji Haolan alone to handle the clothes herself.
Each of the outfits was expensive, and Ji Haolan did not dare touch anything recklessly. She had no intention of being a kept woman. What she said earlier was only a compromise for survival. Now she placed the card and the keys Wei Xia had given her in a very visible spot. She opened the fitting room door a crack and peeked outside.
Wei Xia seemed to be enjoying herself buying clothes for someone else for the first time. Her face was cold and expressionless, with her arms crossed, but Ji Haolan could feel that she was in high spirits. She was not picking anything up herself. Instead, she barked instructions at the store clerks, pointing to outfits for them to bring over.
With that kind of focus, Ji Haolan glanced at the exit. Maybe she had a shot at escaping.
Just as she stepped out half a foot, Wei Xia said coldly, “If you try to run, forget about studying at A University.”
Ji Haolan looked up to find Wei Xia glaring at her with narrowed eyes, clearly on the verge of losing her temper. Realizing she had no chance, Ji Haolan silently stepped back.
She hid inside the fitting room for several minutes before there was a knock on the door. “Open up. It’s me.”
Ji Haolan unlocked the door and let her in. One look told Wei Xia that Ji Haolan had just been zoning out. She had not tried on any of the clothes. That was fine. Wei Xia had wanted to check on her anyway.
“Start with this one,” she said, picking up a dress.
“I… This is too expensive,” Ji Haolan said, taking a step back. She did not like owing people. If she accepted these clothes, it would take her forever to pay back the debt.
But Wei Xia was never one to negotiate. “Hurry up. I want to see you wear it.”
Ji Haolan stubbornly refused to move. She was taller than Wei Xia, and even with high heels, Wei Xia could not catch up to her. Still, she stood there pouting like an angry, stubborn tree.
Wei Xia watched her for a moment. It was only the first day, and she already had the nerve to act up. Did she really think she could win a staring contest just because she had a pair of pretty eyes?
Wei Xia’s stare was so sharp that it could make senior managers in their forties and fifties cry. Ji Haolan was no match, but she did not back down either. She simply shifted her eyes to the floor and continued sulking.
So she has quite a temper, Wei Xia thought.
She crossed her arms again and let out a small amused snort.
Ji Haolan was only twenty years old. Wei Xia, about twenty-five, had been in society far longer. To her, Ji Haolan was still a kid. Seeing her act out like this was oddly entertaining.
“Fine. If you do not want to wear it, that is your choice. I will buy them all anyway. If they do not fit, I will throw them out,” she said flatly.
All those clothes about to be wasted rubbed Ji Haolan the wrong way. Her stingy nature flared up. “Why throw them out? Sell them secondhand.”
Wei Xia almost laughed. “No resale. If you do not wear them, I will toss them.”
The idea of wasting good clothes was painful for Ji Haolan. The Mickey shirt she had on cost two hundred and had lasted her five years. These outfits had never been worn and were about to be dumped. Seeing Wei Xia’s overbearing attitude, Ji Haolan reluctantly grabbed one piece and started changing.
“Wear this one first. I want to see you in it,” Wei Xia insisted.
It turned out that Wei Xia’s taste and Ji Haolan’s figure were a perfect match. Ji Haolan looked incredible in designer clothes. Her expression might have been blank, but her features were flawless. She looked like a naturally born heiress.
Wei Xia could not take her eyes off her. Having just secured such a stunning lover, she felt thrilled. While Ji Haolan changed into another outfit, Wei Xia walked over and pulled her into an embrace.
Ji Haolan looked confused until she saw Wei Xia’s eyes fix on her lips. She understood what she meant and protested, “This is a public place.”
Wei Xia replied, “There’s no one here. Hurry up. It’s just a kiss.”
Hesitant, Ji Haolan leaned down and gave her a quick peck on the lips. It was light and brief, not a second longer than necessary.
Wei Xia found it acceptable for a first kiss. There would be time for improvement.
But Ji Haolan was visibly upset. When she realized she did not completely dislike kissing Wei Xia, she felt even worse. As they got into the car, with the back seat packed full of high-end shopping bags, Wei Xia was already thinking about taking her to get her hair done. Ji Haolan suddenly pulled on her hand.
Knowing the stubborn girl had something to say, Wei Xia turned to her. “What is it? Speak.”
