The dinner went exceptionally well. Ji Haolan’s cooking was not exactly top-tier, but steak was a regular on her and Wei Xia’s menu. With the added help of a recipe video, the meal turned out well enough that no one could find fault with it.

After dinner, they enjoyed some dessert. Ji Haolan was not picky except when it came to vegetables. The desserts had been prepared earlier by the chef, since Mrs. Wei, despite her confidence, did not believe she could manage decent pastries. After eating, Ji Haolan joined the others in the living room for tea.

Tea tasting was a refined hobby. Ji Haolan, however, could not quite grasp its nuances despite drinking it for some time. Mr. Wei, on the other hand, was delighted. He introduced her to several types of tea. Fortunately, Ji Haolan was not entirely clueless. When Mr. Wei pointed out certain aromas or lingering aftertastes, she could just about make them out. That was more than enough to keep him talking enthusiastically with her for over an hour.

Time passed quickly. By the time Wei Xia stretched and lazily said from the sofa, “I’m sleepy,” it was already around eleven.

Seeing her like this, Ji Haolan stood up. “Then we should be heading out.”

Mrs. Wei said, “It’s too late to drive back. Just stay here. Xia’s old room is ready and waiting.”

This being her first overnight visit made it feel inappropriate, so Ji Haolan gently declined. “I’ve already stayed too long.”

But the forceful nature in Wei Xia’s family was clearly hereditary. Mrs. Wei had already taken a liking to Ji Haolan and immediately tugged her back. “You didn’t overstay at all. It’s dangerous to drive when it’s so dark. Just stay.”

Mr. Wei added, “It’s late. Rest first.”

Ji Haolan looked a little hesitant, but Wei Xia answered for her without hesitation.

As the night deepened, everyone went to their rooms. Mr. and Mrs. Wei returned to their master bedroom. Mrs. Wei seemed to be in excellent spirits. She looked relaxed as she commented, “Xiao Lan seems like a good kid. I think Xia really likes her.”

Wei Xia had told them a long time ago that she was gay, though she had never brought anyone home. The parents had not given it much thought until yesterday, when she suddenly announced she was bringing someone home for them to meet. They were understandably nervous.

Wei Xia had even made it clear that this was someone she liked.

Lying in bed, Mrs. Wei said, “I heard from Zhou Lu’s mother that Zhou Lu brought home all sorts of unpleasant types. They had good looks but no manners. She said she couldn’t stand them. If Xia brought someone like that, I honestly wouldn’t know what to do.”

Mr. Wei was also satisfied with Ji Haolan. They could not control whom their daughter chose, but it was clear her taste was not bad. Ji Haolan seemed like a simple and steady person. “If Xia finds someone who can take care of her, that would be best.”

From how Ji Haolan cooked dinner and immediately stood up to go with Wei Xia when she said she was tired, it was obvious who was being pampered. Judging by Wei Xia’s lack of progress in the kitchen, Ji Haolan was clearly the one doing the serving. More importantly, she did not seem to mind one bit, which was remarkable given that pleasing Wei Xia was no easy task.

Mrs. Wei, knowing her daughter well, sighed. “The most important thing is that Xia found someone she truly likes. With her personality, I thought she might never fall in love. Did you see how she looked at Xiao Lan? She’s absolutely smitten.”

“Agreed,” Mr. Wei said. Wei Xia hardly left Ji Haolan’s side all night and looked like she wanted to glue herself to her.

After a moment of quiet, Mrs. Wei turned onto her side and whispered with a mischievous smile, “And did you see what happened in the kitchen? When the hot oil splashed, Xiao Lan immediately shielded me. I was a little moved myself…”

Mr. Wei narrowed his eyes suspiciously.

Meanwhile, Ji Haolan had been pulled into Wei Xia’s old bedroom.

The room’s layout was not much different from her high-end apartment. It was clear that Wei Xia had taken charge of its design and décor long ago. Ji Haolan stretched and, seeing the late hour, began preparing for bed.

Wei Xia, however, was suddenly full of energy. Now that Ji Haolan was actually in her childhood room, she seemed a little giddy. Her eyes followed Ji Haolan’s every move. She did not look away even when Ji Haolan started undressing.

Ji Haolan did not mind. She walked over, fully bare, and began undressing Wei Xia as well.

Wei Xia cooperated smoothly, raising her arms and legs to let Ji Haolan strip her bare. They had done this many times before. Wei Xia always carried herself with a regal air, calmly accepting care and attention as if it were natural. She was like an emperor from ancient times, used to being pampered with fruit and wine while soaking in a bath.

After cleaning Wei Xia and wrapping her in a towel to toss her onto the bed, Ji Haolan returned to the bathroom to wash up herself.

While washing her hair, she heard the door open. She wiped her face and turned to find Wei Xia, now dressed in a bathrobe, standing in the doorway and watching her.

Still watching me at this point…

Ji Haolan quickly rinsed the foam from her hair before looking up and asking, “What are you staring at?”

Wei Xia replied, “She’s mine. Why shouldn’t I look?”

There was nothing more to say to that. Ji Haolan let her look. Under Wei Xia’s gaze, she finished bathing, then stepped out and said, “It’s late. If we’re going to do anything, it can only be once.”

“Did I say I wanted to do anything?” Wei Xia asked.

Ji Haolan shot back, “You don’t?” Her tone suggested she already knew the answer.

Sure enough, Wei Xia replied, “Of course I do.”

Ji Haolan did not make a move right away. Instead, she looked at the door and asked, “How’s the soundproofing in here?”

Her cautious expression made Wei Xia laugh. The bedroom was far enough from her parents’ that sound would not travel.

Wei Xia pulled Ji Haolan onto the bed. “Even if you screamed, they wouldn’t hear a thing. Come here.”

Still half skeptical, Ji Haolan let herself be drawn in, then asked, “What exactly did you tell your parents?”

Wei Xia’s overly enthusiastic welcome had made her suspicious.

Wei Xia had no intention of answering honestly. She had simply introduced Ji Haolan as her girlfriend. Although there was still some ambiguity in their relationship, she doubted Ji Haolan could resist her. She had merely acted a little ahead of time.

Instead, she started grilling Ji Haolan about her conversation with her mother in the kitchen. Things had seemed far too friendly.

Ji Haolan sighed. “You’re jealous of your own mother?”

Wei Xia leaned closer and clasped her hands behind Ji Haolan’s neck.

Ji Haolan had no more patience. She pressed Wei Xia down onto the pillow and kissed her hard.

Enough questions. Time to act and then sleep.

In truth, Mrs. Wei had not said anything unusual. She had only mentioned that Ji Haolan was the first person Wei Xia had ever brought home. That alone spoke volumes.

Ji Haolan was unsure how to handle Wei Xia’s relentless pursuit. She had been following along passively, never quite certain if she should fully accept it. But none of it felt unpleasant. On the contrary, Wei Xia’s enthusiasm made it difficult not to smile.
