When Kane receives the news of Ryan’s death from Kurt, he doesn’t react with surprise. Instead, he nods calmly. “Lord Moon God will know of your loyalty.”

Kurt, always eager for praise, smiles. “As long as you remember it.”

Kurt then glances over the farmland where the “free people” water the fields, his confusion apparent. “Do you really want to stay here and manage these slaves?”

Kane corrects him. “They are no longer slaves.”

Kurt quickly responds, “Yes, yes, I forget, they are free people now.”

Kane then says, “This is the task given to me by Lord Moon God. Only if I do it well can I go to the temple after death.”

This is Kane’s own conclusion—he is not a true messenger of God. He will grow old and die, and he worries that when that time comes, Claire and the others will turn against him.

If Claire dares to kill Ryan, a noble, would she hesitate to kill him?

Kurt is stunned. “Will you… grow old?”

Kane replies, “Of course. We are under the Sun God’s control while we live, and after death, we are under the Moon God’s watch.”

Kurt pauses for a moment, then sighs. It seems there is no hope for immortality while alive.

But he quickly reconsiders; a few decades of service in exchange for immortality is still a good deal.

After Kurt leaves, Kane lets out a long sigh. The civilians under his care work diligently. No one is lazy. Perhaps some steal, but before Kane can reprimand them, they have already resolved the issue themselves.

No one wants to lose their current life, so no one dares to threaten it.

Occasionally, Kane sees someone with a bruised face, likely the result of a private lesson from others.

Thinking about this, Kane can’t help but smile.

For a time, he hates the slaves who work with him more than the nobles. He feels they are no different from livestock—eating, sleeping, and being whipped to work.

But now, the atmosphere has changed. These people aren’t so bad after all.

It’s just… no one seems cute in the kind of environment they used to live in.

“My lord!” someone calls as they notice Kane watching them. The person straightens up and waves.

Kane smiles and says, “Work hard!”

They now live in a wooden house. In addition to raising chickens and ducks, they carve a statue of the Moon God. Since they lack the tools for stone carving, they use only wood.

Kane thinks that although wood isn’t as good as stone, he can always buy the proper tools later.

Among the common people, there are also craftsmen—many of them have been turned into slaves by the lord after making mistakes. Though they haven’t worked for many years, their skills haven’t dulled.

Kane describes the Moon God to them in detail.

The craftsman uses charcoal to outline the image on the wooden board. Though it isn’t an exact match, it is about 70% similar. Kane thinks that 70% similarity is enough. After all, craftsmen who can draw something that close should be in the royal city by now.

Kane understands what the Moon God wants him to do.

He may never be able to change the world and make all slaves free in his lifetime. But at least, he can plant a seed.

That seed will one day sprout and grow into a towering tree.

Kane looks out toward the horizon.

Maybe he isn’t the one planting the seed.

Maybe… he is the seed—the one the Moon God has chosen and placed upon this land.

Kane takes a deep breath, rolls up his pants, picks up a bucket, and steps into the fields.

His feet touch the earth, and all his thoughts settle.

There isn’t much he can do. He is just one person, with only two hands. He has only one task: to carry out the Moon God’s will.

This life of his is borrowed. It is granted to him by the Moon God. He can’t let it go to waste.

When Ye Zhou returns to Minzil Continent, the first thing he does is rush to the cliff. He sets the return time two days earlier than planned, using the time for travel.

As soon as the supermarket moves, Ye Zhou leads his team to set off.

Since Chen Shu doesn’t have a strong desire to leave the supermarket, Ye Zhou brings Zou Ming, Sarah, and Zhou Yuanhe along. It is better to bring Zhou Yuanhe, the doctor, in case of any accidents.

This time, Ye Zhou doesn’t go directly to Kane but sends Sarah to the stone house to find Kurt.

Ye Zhou wants to know Ryan’s current situation. Is he dead or alive?

Sarah shrugs. “He must be dead. Boss, you don’t know what people can do when they’re driven by interests.”

Ye Zhou and Zou Ming wait in the woods. Sarah doesn’t even knock on the door; she just climbs over the wall and enters the stone house.

When she enters, she sees the servant guarding the door. She smiles at him in a friendly way.

The male servant doesn’t dare stop her, nor does he remind her to knock. He simply watches her walk in as if she were invisible.

Sarah sniffs the air, quickly finds the right direction, and makes her way deeper into the corridor.

The servants step aside when they see her, only resuming their movements once she passes.

Sarah stops in front of a room, pushes the door open without ceremony, and sees Kurt sitting inside.

Kurt stands up immediately, startled. He has never dealt with Sarah before, but he knows she is more difficult than Kane—she doesn’t look like someone who can be easily deceived.

“Divine Emissary…” Kurt bows respectfully.

Sarah walks straight to where Kurt just sat and takes a seat. She picks up the parchment on the table, skims it quickly, and asks, “Is Ryan dead?”

Kurt answers quickly, “He has passed away. Claire did it.” He adds proudly, “But I gave him the poison.”

Sarah nods. “When will Kane’s identity be confirmed?”

Kurt replies, “In these few days.”

Sarah puts the parchment down. “When will Claire leave?”

Kurt says in a low voice, “He probably won’t. It took him so much effort to get rid of Ryan, and now he plans to replace him as the one who offers tribute to Lord Moon God. He’s a duke—he can definitely offer more…”

Sarah glances at Kurt, her bright red pupils deeply intimidating. She slowly parts her lips and says, “Once Kane’s identity is established, Claire will be useless. He can’t die here—if he dies here, Kane will be exposed. It will be troublesome later, and Lord Moon God doesn’t have time to deal with so many problems.” Sarah taps the table with her fingers. “You need to find a way to persuade him to go back and let him die in his own territory.”

Kurt becomes a little nervous. “None of my poisons will take effect that quickly.”

Sarah rolls her eyes. “That’s your problem.”

With that, Sarah throws something to Kurt. He catches it hurriedly. Before he looks down to see what is in his hand, he hears Sarah say, “You must understand what Lord Moon God values about you. Some things you can do, but others can do too. You must do what others can’t do.”

Sarah smiles and adds, “I’m over four hundred years old now. How long do you want to live?”

Kurt’s pupils shrink, and he can’t help but gasp.

He whispers, “I can do it.”

At that moment, he feels he can do anything.
