Dimensional Supermarket - Chapter 91
It’s a rare trip back to the Daliang Dynasty, but Ye Zhou doesn’t achieve his original goal, and Wu Yan and his wife still can’t return.
There’s no need to stay for a week.
Ye Zhou arrives in the Daliang Dynasty in the morning, but he has to return in the afternoon. Though he gains something, he still feels like the trip is a waste.
The jade pendants and hairpins left by Zhao Kuo and Lin You are worth more than 200,000 yuan in total. However, Ye Zhou has dealt with tens of millions worth of business, so he doesn’t care much about this small sum.
“Back then, I’m so poor that I even want to strip Lin You of his clothes,” Ye Zhou says to Zou Ming with a smile. “Now, I don’t even care about more than 300,000 yuan. I’m getting arrogant and inflated.”
Zou Ming, sitting next to Ye Zhou and refilling his tea, is stunned. He raises his eyebrows slightly, his eyes deep. “Strip clothes?”
Ye Zhou doesn’t look at Zou Ming. He continues smiling. “I’m poor back then. You don’t know how valuable the things Lin You wears are. It shatters my view of the world. It’s almost the same as the high-end custom clothes from my plane.”
As for the young masters of aristocratic families, everything they wear is exquisite. In this era, such clothes are priceless because no young master of a noble family would ever pawn their clothes unless their family is in decline. But even then, the camel is still bigger than the horse—no matter how poor they are, they won’t pawn their clothes.
Ye Zhou says, “The clothes of a young man from a noble family are so valuable. If I meet the emperor and take off his dragon robe, will it be even more valuable? Maybe a dragon robe could be worth tens of millions, or even hundreds of millions.” Ye Zhou leans back on the sofa, daydreaming. “I’m sure I could unlock something new. In fact, with the protective shield, I think it’d be better if I could land in a more affluent place. But every time the Dimensional Jumps, the landing point is deserted, except for Luoyang Base.”
Perhaps it’s because if the landing happens to be in a deserted place near Luoyang Base, there really won’t be anyone around. Even if the base’s soldiers go out, they mark a range and never search beyond it.
Ye Zhou remarks, “I don’t know whether to say the system is humane or not.”
Zou Ming replies, “It will be.”
Ye Zhou looks confused. “What?”
Zou Ming pushes the refilled tea into Ye Zhou’s hand. “It should land in a wealthier place later.”
Ye Zhou takes a sip of the tea and praises, “Every time you pour tea for me, the temperature is just perfect. I often burn my mouth when I do it myself.”
Zou Ming asks calmly, “Then should I make tea for you in the future?”
“No, no,” Ye Zhou quickly waves his hand. “I’ll only pay you one salary. How can I let you work two jobs?”
Zou Ming purses his lips. “No money, it’s all small stuff.”
Ye Zhou laughs. “Hey, although we’re friends, we still need to distinguish between work and personal matters.”
Ye Zhou pats Zou Ming’s shoulder, then sits up from the sofa, ready to notify the employees to return to the supermarket. It’s time to leave.
He turns on the computer and checks the time on Minzil Continent. He hasn’t adjusted the time when he transfers to the Daliang Dynasty, so he has arrived twenty years later.
The system’s time setting strictly adheres to the law of the conservation of time. He can’t jump to a time point he’s already visited. He can’t go back to a time before he arrives. He can only go forward, never backward.
If he violates this, a time paradox will occur, and the system can’t resolve that, so it eliminates the possibility at the source.
Next time Ye Zhou jumps, he can only go forward from the time he has arrived. But he doesn’t think this is much of a problem, since he doesn’t plan to stay in one plane for long.
It seems the plan to open a branch in the Daliang Dynasty will have to be postponed. However, opening one in Luoyang Base is still possible. As long as Yang Guoqin remains the highest leader there, the safety of the branch manager will be ensured. Not only can it provide residents with rare goods in the post-apocalypse, but it can also create jobs.
Yang Guoqin is a smart person, and dealing with smart people is much easier. Ye Zhou doesn’t have to worry about short-sightedness.
After notifying the employees, Ye Zhou presses the jump button. He’ll go to Luoyang Base after resolving things in Minzil Continent. He has already chosen a store manager for the Minzil Continent branch and knows everything is in order, so there’s no rush.
Chen Gang’s family is good, with many people, so they aren’t worried that Chen Gang won’t be dedicated. Plus, they only have to pay him a salary. The more he works, the more he earns. Additionally, Chen Gang has many relatives in Luoyang Base, so he can be considered a local boss. He doesn’t have to worry about being troubled by others.
Chen Gang isn’t a bad person. He might be a little greedy, but not to the point of being malicious.
Ye Zhou isn’t morally fastidious. He doesn’t believe people must be flawless. Only saints are perfect. He can’t do it himself, so he doesn’t expect others to.
As long as the general direction is right, it’s enough.
This time, Ye Zhou jumps exactly one week after he leaves.
The target amount in Minzil Continent has been earned, but the newly unlocked plane hasn’t yet appeared. So, Ye Zhou focuses on solving Kane’s identity issue.
Kane is the branch manager Ye Zhou has chosen, but the biggest problem is that he’s a slave, a runaway slave, with no legal identity.
If Ryan creates an identity for him, then after Ye Zhou leaves, Ryan and his team might find they can’t get any benefits. It’s hard to say if they’ll turn their attention to the branch.
Ye Zhou doesn’t want the people working for him to die because of his negligence.
A noble identity can protect Kane well.
It’s easy to kill Ryan, but dealing with the aftermath is troublesome. So, Ye Zhou has given the task to Kurt. His ultimate goal is for Kane to inherit Ryan’s identity and status.
As for Claire, once Kane’s identity is confirmed, Ye Zhou can’t leave him as a hidden danger.
Kane will only be safe once Claire dies. Claire has many children, and it will take time for them to inherit his title. This period is enough for Kane to consolidate his position.
If Kane can’t do it…
Then Ye Zhou will have no choice. The road is paved for him, but if he can’t walk it, Ye Zhou can only wish him good luck.
The torch flickers and dances in the darkness. Kurt hides in a corner, his ear pressed against the wooden door, listening carefully to the sounds inside. The little light that falls on his side face makes him look particularly sinister.
Tonight is the night he and Claire have agreed to take action.
Claire will poison Ryan’s wine with the toxin extracted from poisonous grass. Even if Ryan is cautious of his uncle, he won’t be overly suspicious.
Kurt listens to the conversation between Ryan and Claire, holding his breath, imagining Ryan drinking the poisoned wine.
He doesn’t care about Ryan’s life or death. He only cares about whether he can stay loyal to the Moon God.
As long as the Moon God is there, his future is secure. No matter what, he has to do this for the Moon God.
Inside the house, Claire holds an iron wine pot and smiles as he offers the drink. “This wine was given to me by His Majesty the King. It’s far superior to regular wine. Why don’t you try it?”
Ryan, unaware of the deadly intent hidden behind those words, has already consumed quite a bit of wine bought from the merchant. With a flushed face, he responds, “Wine from His Majesty… Uncle, I haven’t even met His Majesty yet…”
Claire’s smile grows even warmer. “With Lord Moon God here, what does the king matter?”
Ryan, with a belch, takes the wine glass from Claire’s hand, raises it high, and shouts, “What does the king matter!”
After shouting, he drinks the entire glass.
Claire, sitting beside him, watches intently, his sharp eyes gleaming with a hidden smile at the corners of his mouth.
Ryan places the empty glass down and tries to stand, using the table for support, but his head spins, and he staggers back down. Before he can get his bearings, he sees stars and collapses. Pain shoots through his stomach, and he begins to sweat profusely. His body writhes uncontrollably, and with a loud thud, Ryan falls to the ground.
He curls up, clutching his stomach, his lips trembling as he weakly calls out, “Uncle… Uncle…”
Claire walks over and crouches beside him. He stares at his nephew, but the image of his late sister, Ryan’s mother, is little more than a distant, blurry memory. She died too young, and Claire has too many siblings to recall them all clearly. He can hardly remember this nephew, either—his last encounter with Ryan was when Ryan became an adult. Even at Ryan’s wedding, Claire hadn’t attended due to a royal banquet.
Claire’s gaze remains fixed on Ryan’s face as the young man struggles. Ryan, with his final strength, croaks out, “Karl… Karl… save me…”
His voice is raspy, and despite his best efforts, no one outside hears his cries.
Claire has already dismissed the servants.
Ryan, dragging himself like a tortoise, crawls towards the door, his body trembling. White foam trickles from the corners of his mouth as he struggles onward.
Claire makes no move to stop him, watching in silence as Ryan crawls painfully across the floor.
Just as Ryan’s hand nearly touches the door, Claire steps forward and places a foot on Ryan’s back.
Ryan, having expended all his strength, can’t even struggle. With only the faintest of sounds, he rasps, “Why… why…?”
Claire leans down, his voice a soft whisper. “Don’t take me for a fool. You think I spent all that money just to let you shine before the Moon God?”
Ryan’s eyes widen in horror, and his pupils begin to dilate.
Whether Ryan truly understands his fate in those last moments, no one will ever know.
Claire straightens, looking down at Ryan’s lifeless body. A pang of regret stirs within him, but he quickly shoves it aside. Immortality demands a price—property, and now, Ryan’s life.
Claire opens the door.
Kurt, standing outside, smiles at him. “Now, you are the one who serves the Moon God.”
Claire, unphased, replies, “Ryan’s funeral should be arranged quickly.”
Kurt shakes his head slightly. “Ryan died from poisoning. If it’s discovered, it will certainly be traced back to you. And with no heirs, his land will pass to His Majesty.”
Claire, considering the first part a non-issue, frowns at the second. “He has no heirs?”
Kurt whispers, “Only illegitimate children, but Ryan never acknowledged them. No one knows where they are now.”
Illegitimate children can’t inherit the title unless Ryan’s wife acknowledges them, but she left for her parents’ home after two years of marriage. This place was too poor for her, and now she has a lover. She won’t return.
Claire, now understanding, mutters, “Then find someone.”
Kurt suggests, “What do you think of that divine envoy?”
Claire freezes, staring at Kurt in shock. “Envoy?!”
Kurt nods slightly, his voice low. “This land should belong to Lord Moon God, but Lord Moon God can’t stay here all the time. An envoy could. Giving this land to him is like offering it to Lord Moon God. Lord Moon God will remember you for it, and you won’t lose anything.”
If Claire doesn’t hand over the land to Kane, Kurt won’t be able to take it himself, especially considering the land’s poor condition. Someone has to take care of it.
After a moment of thought, Claire agrees. “You’re right.”
Kurt adds, “After all, Lord Ryan rarely leaves his territory. Very few people outside even know what he looks like…”
Claire processes the words and then speaks with a calm resolve. “I understand. I will speak to Lord Moon God’s Messenger next time I go up the mountain.”
As long as Lord Moon God remembers his loyalty, Claire will be satisfied.
The two men exchange a brief glance.
Claire says, “I’ll have the servants deal with Ryan’s body and make sure the remaining ones stay quiet.”
Ryan has been in the house for a long time, so there are bound to be a few loyal servants still around. Claire adds, “If Lord Moon God asks about this, you know what to say.”
Kurt nods quickly. “I know what I should say.”
Turning to look at Ryan’s body, Kurt feels a twisted sense of satisfaction. The man who once held higher status than him is now nothing more than a pile of meat on the floor. Watching someone of greater stature fall from grace gives Kurt a strange, secret pleasure.
Kurt doesn’t spare Ryan another glance. He steps out of the room, gazing up at the sky.
There is no moon tonight.
Lord Moon God won’t be able to see it, will he?
Kurt smiles as he walks out.
