Finally, two people step out.

Chen Shu carries a gun, and Sarah wears a cloak that covers her hair and face.

When the two appear, the soldiers burst into disbelieving laughter.

The leading soldier looks at them and sneers, “A woman and a kid? What, are all the men in your supermarket dead? You’re only sending women and children out now?”

Chen Shu glances at the soldier, then at the middle-aged man standing next to him. She thinks for a moment and politely asks, “Excuse me, is the man next to you the head of the Yang family?”

Before the soldier can answer, the man replies, “Yes. The owner of this store is a traitor—cunning and treacherous. I am here under orders from the ruler to arrest him. If you don’t want to be implicated, hand him over immediately. I promise, with the Yang family’s reputation, you’ll come to no harm.”

Chen Shu considers for a moment, then reaches behind her.

Everyone holds their breath, thinking she’s about to draw a deadly weapon. But when she pulls out the object, they are stunned—she takes out a loudspeaker.

Chen Shu raises it and calmly addresses the crowd: “Fellow villagers, please go home. Don’t gather here for the spectacle. If fighting breaks out, you might get hurt by accident.”

She then turns to the soldiers and the middle-aged man and says loudly, “Stop digging your own graves. Go home and be decent citizens. As long as you leave, I guarantee on the reputation of our supermarket that you will not be harmed.”

The common folk don’t seem to find anything strange about this, but the guards and the man are nearly deafened by the blast of sound.

The man flies into a rage. “A mere woman dares insult me?! Seize her! I don’t care if she lives or dies!”

The soldiers eye Chen Shu. Despite her height, they’re not worried. In their eyes, no matter how tall a woman is, she can’t compete with a man in strength. She’ll be easy to take down.

Especially since she has a child with her.

They figure she must have come out without consulting the other men.

One soldier near the supermarket tries to seize the chance to earn merit. The moment the man gives the order, he rushes forward.

From the crowd, angry voices ring out:

“Bullying a woman—is this the Yang family’s tradition?”

“They call themselves a noble family? Shameless!”

“This woman is protecting her master. That’s righteousness! The Yang family should honor her, not attack her!”

“He claims he’s acting under the ruler’s order…”

“Is it really the ruler’s order?”

Someone shouts, “The ruler is confused! Completely confused! Why, why?!”

Ye Zhou is about to speak when the girl who has been holding him earlier yells, “They just don’t want us to buy grain at low prices! Even if their grain is full of bugs and about to rot, they won’t lower the price! And they won’t let others do it either! Our lives mean nothing to them!”

Ye Zhou looks at the girl in shock. She is small, but her words are sharp, logical, and hit right at the people’s pain points.

Although people say you shouldn’t oppose officials, the citizens of Linzi aren’t ordinary. Many have relatives in noble families. Even if their own families are declining, they still have connections. Some commoners even have children who are minor officials.

They aren’t completely powerless—they have confidence.

More importantly, the Yang family isn’t a true noble family.

With no lineage stretching back hundreds of years, they barely qualify.

The girl continues, “If they dare attack this woman, they’re not fit to be human!”

The crowd echoes her cries.

But the middle-aged man ignores them.
A nearby soldier hesitates and asks, “Master, should we…”

The man sneers, “Let them shout. What else can they do? Arrest her!”

With that, the first soldier rushes at Chen Shu again.

He’s confident. A woman should be easy to capture, and whoever acts first will take the credit.

But as soon as he lunges, Chen Shu—wearing pants—kicks him away in one smooth motion. There’s no extra movement, no wasted effort.

The soldier flies down the steps.

Chen Shu uses their stunned silence to lift the loudspeaker again and declares, “I don’t want to kill anyone. I advise you to leave now.”

But her warning only enrages the middle-aged man further.

“Go! Take her down!” he roars. “If you can’t even handle a woman, what good are you?!”

The soldiers exchange glances, then charge at Chen Shu.

In the crowd, Ye Zhou keeps shouting, “Make way! Make way!”

He’s ready to fire a blank shot.

The soldiers close in, but Chen Shu remains calm. She looks at Sarah.

Sarah meets her gaze and gives a small nod.

Neither of them calls for help from the supermarket. After all, protecting it is their job—as bodyguards, they’re meant to fight.

Sarah murmurs, “If Ye Zhou can’t see this, we’ll lose our chance.”

If you’re going to show off, best to do it in front of the boss.

Chen Shu smiles. “It’s fine. With this many people watching, you’ll still get credit.”

They don’t speak further. Sarah leaps up, lands on a soldier’s back, uses her legs to drive him into the ground, and knocks out the next one with a swift knifehand strike.

Chen Shu is more direct.

She takes a stance and lands a punch to a man’s temple. Before others can approach, she dashes in and strikes another soldier in the jaw.

Each one goes down in a single hit.

The soldiers intend to capture her unarmed, but now their eyes are red with frustration. Those behind raise long spears.

Sarah sees them draw weapons. Her dark-red eyes turn bright crimson. She asks quietly, “Can we kill them?”

Chen Shu dodges a spear thrust and replies, “The boss isn’t here—better not kill anyone. He might get upset later.”

Sarah: “Can I beat them up?”

Chen Shu: “Go ahead.”

The guards overhearing this “casual chat” finally lose it and roar, “Do you think we’re already dead?!”

Chen Shu and Sarah look over at the speaker. They exchange a glance. No words are needed—the look in their eyes says it all: Yes. We think you’re already dead.

In the crowd, Ye Zhou keeps pushing forward, still yelling, “I’m the boss! I’m here!”

But his voice is drowned out by the chaos. Only a few nearby people hear him.

The girl who has been protecting him quickly says, “Don’t go! You’re safe here!”

Others agree and cover him, trying to help him escape.

Ye Zhou is exasperated—on the verge of collapse.

“Let me go. I can handle it. I won’t be caught.” He has already drawn his gun but hesitates to fire a blank shot surrounded by well-meaning people.

Back at the supermarket entrance, while Ye Zhou is still squeezing through the crowd, Chen Shu and Sarah have almost dealt with all the soldiers.

Each time they knock one down, two supermarket workers come out, drag the unconscious man inside, and tie him up in plain view.

The fight becomes almost comedic.

The crowd, once tense, quickly relaxes and begins watching the show. They even debate which soldier gets beaten the worst.

A young man in the crowd shouts, “Girl, your kung fu is amazing!”

“Such great skills!”

Hearing the praise, Chen Shu pauses mid-fight to clasp her fists in a martial salute and say, “Thank you for the compliment.”

Then she punches another soldier square in the nose—he immediately starts bleeding.

When Zou Ming arrives, he sees Chen Shu with her foot on a soldier’s back, and Sarah tying up the middle-aged man.

Wu Yan and Zhou Wen are dragging the others inside. But their knot-tying isn’t great, and the crowd heckles them:

“You can’t tie like that! Go around this side!”

“What is that mess? It’s so ugly!”

Under the pressure, Wu Yan and Zhou Wen tie up the soldiers as best they can, then quickly duck back inside—because the crowd is eager to untie the ropes and redo them properly themselves.

The girl who has been shielding him says, “Boss, it’s time to go back.”

Ye Zhou looks at the proud girl and sincerely thanks her: “Thank you.”

He turns to the crowd, “Thank you, everyone.”

The crowd is delighted. “Thank us? Everyone says merchants chase profit, but you’re different! You sold us cheap grain, saved our whole families—such virtue, even Heaven must recognize it!”

Ye Zhou feels a bit guilty. After all, it’s Chen Hou who makes up the difference in grain prices.

He quickly tries to explain, “The ruler…”

But the crowd cuts him off. “The ruler is a good ruler—he provided the money. But it’s you who dared to sell!”

“It’s not that there aren’t kind-hearted people. It’s just that the Yang family scared them. They didn’t dare sell.”

“The Yang family has ruined countless lives!”

Zou Ming comes over, confirms Ye Zhou isn’t hurt, then stands silently behind him.

The crowd no longer blocks him—they open a path.

Like a tide pulling back, the people open a narrow passage. All eyes are on Ye Zhou, waiting for him to pass.

The supermarket staff have also come out and are standing at the entrance, waiting for their boss.

Ye Zhou: “…”

Well. This is a bit too formal.

He begins to feel embarrassed again.
