Chapter 57 Assassination

Gu Xian catches sight of Ji Tong and can’t help but ask anxiously, “Ji Tong is here too! What’s the situation inside? How is she?”

“Aunt Gu, it’s not serious, just a little blood,” Ji Tong replies, not expecting such a thing to happen today. Sighing at the events that have unfolded, she feels resigned. It seems she has no hope left. If someone can risk their life to protect Tingshu, it means they love him. Today’s actions made it clear the other party was testing her, but at the same time, she feels relieved. Even if Tingshu doesn’t marry her, she still hopes he will be happy.

…

After the elderly couple from the Gu family enter the room, they can’t help but feel anxious at the smell of blood permeating the air. “Xian’er, how are you?”

At this moment, Zhao Xian has already taken out the knife, applied medicine, and bandaged herself up. Seeing Gu Xian, Zhao Xian smiles. “Mother, I’m fine, just a minor injury. I didn’t expect to encounter assassins when I went out. It seems they have been tracking me since early morning.” Although it hurts a lot, it didn’t hit any vital points, and with her inner strength, she just needs a few days to recover.

“That’s good, that’s good. You scared us,” Gu Tingshu’s father says, walking to the bedside, checking Zhao Xian up and down to make sure she is okay, and then heaving a sigh of relief. “It’s good that nothing serious happened. It really scared us.”

Zhao Xian is now their child in a way, so naturally, they are worried. It’s a case of loving someone means loving everything about them! And if anything happened to her, their son would be widowed. Whatever it is, they hope she will be okay.

“Father, my wife took the knife for me, otherwise with her martial arts, she wouldn’t have been hurt,” Gu Tingshu stands beside her bed, his eyes red.

Gu Xian is stunned, feeling even more satisfied with this daughter-in-law. “Xian’er, this child has caused you trouble.”

Zhao Xian shakes her head. “Mother, no, if anything, I’m the one who has implicated him. These people were after me.”

Gu Xian sighs. “Who could it be? Have they been caught yet? Mother knows it’s not easy for you, so you should be careful in the future.”

Zhao Xian nods. “It’s okay…” At her current position, there will probably always be a few assassination attempts. Anyway, she’ll get used to it, but she won’t just sit around waiting for trouble to find her.

Gu Tingshu stands silently by the bed and stares at her, his eyes red.

Zhao Xian feels a headache coming on. “Why are you crying? I’m not dead yet, and it’s really just a minor injury.”

“It’s already serious to me; seeing you hurt hurts me too.” Despite his usually laid-back demeanor, he has a soft heart.

Zhao Xian sighs. “Fine! Just come over and keep me company.”

As soon as Zhao Xian speaks, everyone in the room can’t help but cough.

“Ahem, let’s all go back! Let Xian’er rest properly. I’ll go kill a chicken and make soup. She’s lost too much blood; she needs to replenish it…”

Soon the room quiets down, and even the door is closed.

Zhao Xian is in a lot of pain. She can’t help but lean back on the bed and then scoot over a bit. “Hey… are you planning to stand there all night? Come here.”

“Okay.” Gu Tingshu nods and sits by her bedside, but his gaze still lingers on the bandaged area. Though she is already dressed, the bandages are still visible. Today, this person is injured because of protecting him. If only he had martial arts skills, she wouldn’t have been injured.

“Do you ever feel like I’m a burden?” Gu Tingshu suddenly speaks up.

“…” Zhao Xian is baffled, giving him a look of disbelief. “What are you thinking? When have I ever said you’re a burden? Can’t you stop overthinking?” Men in this female-dominated world really do tend to overthink, just like women in her world.
