Did the Movie Emperor Blow His Cover Today? - Chapter 66
Chapter 66 – Extra
Han Buji was an absolute show-off when it came to his relationship. The very night he received his marriage certificate, he posted a Weibo update, directly sharing photos of the two certificates.
The photos were edited with a distinctly “straight man” aesthetic, featuring clusters of little hearts surrounding the couple’s portrait. Against the red background, both wore white shirts and beamed with saccharine smiles.
This single Weibo post sent Gao Meng scrambling for her Quick-Acting Heart-Relieving Pills, which she promptly emptied into her mouth.
Gao Meng wasn’t the only one overwhelmed. Netizens, still riding the sugar high from the day’s Film Festival, stumbled upon this ultimate sweet treat in Han Buji’s Weibo feed, nearly getting diabetes from the sheer sweetness.
The Weibo entertainment industry page nearly crashed from the collective “Ah!” of shock and excitement. Not just netizens, but even some celebrities secretly shipping the couple joined in the chorus of “Ah!” The scene was spectacular, like a horde of groundhogs who had just discovered the internet and swarmed onto Weibo.
The next day, Sichuan-Chongqing tycoon Li Sijin sent Han Buji a congratulatory gift: a crate of kidney-nourishing and blood-replenishing tonics from his company’s flagship brand, along with a handwritten card: “Congratulations, Best Actor Han, on your marriage!”
After receiving the congratulatory card, Han Buji, his face dark with anger, called Zhou Xun, repeatedly addressing him as “Mother-in-Law” until he successfully extracted over a hundred old ties from the tie aficionado.
Zhou Xun’s old ties were… well, their style was about on par with Tao Hui’s first pair of fake Chanel sunglasses.
Some featured large, blooming blue lotuses, while others showcased purple bees buzzing around tiny green flowers. There were also ties with a Chinese red background embroidered with golden dragons and phoenixes symbolizing auspiciousness, and others depicting golden wheat fields swaying in the wind. The patterns were endless, and utterly…
…utterly eye-searing.
According to Tao Hui, Zhou Xun had once declared that he would wear the crimson tie embroidered with dragons and phoenixes on her wedding day.
As soon as the box of ties arrived, Li Sijin’s phone call came roaring across half of China, still in his familiar bellowing style: “Han Buji, you son of a bitch! What the hell is this box of ties you sent me?!”
The pot calling the kettle black! What the hell was that box of kidney-tonifying and blood-nourishing medicine you sent me?!
When the phone rang, Tao Hui was kneeling on her suitcase, desperately trying to zip it shut. She answered while still struggling to compress the bulging luggage. After hearing Li Sijin’s furious roar, she calmly brushed back her bangs and began, “Hello, the number you have dialed is switched off, please try again later. I’m so-o-o…”
Halfway through the canned message, Tao Hui, who was terrible at English, froze. She turned to Han Buji behind her, pouting, and muttered, “What comes next?”
Han Buji, holding a glass of honey lemon water, offered it to her lips. Mimicking her pronunciation, he finished the sentence: “…the number you dialed is off, please redial later.”
As soon as Han Buji finished, Tao Hui, who had just swallowed a sip of the honey lemon water, whined playfully, “Han Buji, I want it with ice!”
“You already had ice cream this morning,” Han Buji replied. “No more ice.”
Tao Hui pouted. “Just one cube? Not even one? Juice without ice has no soul!”
Li Sijin, on the other end of the line, was seething with anger and frustration, his stomach churning with the nauseating sweetness of their public display of affection. He muttered a string of curses, ready to hang up, when Tao Hui innocently chimed in, “Oh, right, Li Tycoon, have you picked out which tie you’re going to use to off yourself?”
Li Sijin slammed down the phone in a rage.
This Li Sijin was quite the character—remarkably outgoing and quick to make himself at home. He initially declared himself Tao Hui’s “family member,” even promoting Han Buji’s new film with the bold declaration:
[ Support my brother-in-law’s new movie!!! ]
The Best Actor Han swiftly shut him down with a blunt reply:
[ My wife says she doesn’t have a brother like you. ]
Despite the back-and-forth banter, the tycoon emerged unscathed, his brand’s popularity only soaring higher.
Han Buji watched Tao Hui with a smile. The way she proudly tilted her chin after hanging up on Li Sijin was utterly adorable. He reached out to stroke her hair, asking with a chuckle, “All packed?”
Tao Hui gave him an OK sign, then asked worriedly, “Won’t it be expensive to book flights last-minute?”
“No need to book,” Han Buji replied, grinning. “We can borrow my dad’s private jet.”
Hearing about the private jet, Tao Hui’s eyes lit up with excitement. She envisioned the luxurious private planes she’d seen in movies, even fantasizing about hosting a private mid-air party for just herself and Han Buji.
But when she boarded the plane, while it was indeed luxurious, it wasn’t quite what she’d imagined. There were no champagne-sipping beauties, only a complete tea set and a collection of rare, expensive teas…
Miao Miao, Gao Meng, Zhou Xun, and Wu Yue were all deeply displeased by the Boss and Boss Lady’s decision to leave for their honeymoon early. Their plans to hitch a ride on the Boss’s private jet for a fun trip had been dashed.
As Miao Miao scrolled through bridesmaid dress options online, she grumbled, “Come to think of it, I’m the one who played matchmaker for Sister Huihui and the Boss! I was the one who hid all those signed photos of Best Actor Han in Sister Huihui’s room!”
Gao Meng, who was meticulously filling a custom-made solid gold Quick-Acting Heart-Relieving Pill bottle with candy, chuckled. “I think it’s better we didn’t go. They might leave as two and come back as three.”
Wu Yue, his eyes dark from pulling an all-nighter to finish the new season’s artist planning documents, slowly turned his head. “Three what?”
“People! Three people! Mom, Dad, and baby!” Zhou Xun tapped Wu Yue on the head with a rolled-up piece of paper, then began psyching himself up. “Come on, Zhou Xun! You’re going to be a grandpa soon! Work hard and earn money for the baby’s formula! Let’s go!”
Miao Miao leaned in, her eyes sparkling with excitement. “Then I’ll learn some crafts too! I can sew a plushie for the baby!”
“I’ve already picked out a nickname,” Gao Meng announced. “How about ‘Little Bunny’?”
Meanwhile, Han Buji and Tao Hui had arrived in the Maldives. They were lounging in a small house surrounded by the sea, sipping coconuts.
Han Buji’s phone vibrated on the bedside table. He picked it up, and a smile tugged at his lips as he read the message.
Bathed in azure light, Tao Hui squinted comfortably in the sun and asked lazily, “Who is it?”
“Wu Yue,” Han Buji replied, tapping out a quick response before tossing the phone back onto the bed. He leaned down to kiss Tao Hui’s lips.
Tao Hui had just finished her coconut, leaving a faint coconut fragrance on her breath. She tilted her chin up to meet Han Buji’s kiss, and after a long moment, she blushed and whispered, “Do you think they’ll mind that we came without them?”
In Tao Hui’s eyes, Zhou Xun and Miao Miao were her family, while Wu Yue and Gao Meng belonged to the Han Family. Now that they had their marriage certificate, they were all one family.
Han Buji leaned against the headboard, gazing at Tao Hui’s slightly flushed earlobes. He reached out and gently touched them with his fingertips, smiling as he said, “No way. We’ll have plenty of chances to bring them along later. This time, we have something more important to focus on.”
Tao Hui rolled over, hugging a pillow, and looked at Han Buji. Behind him, the wind-rippled blue sea stretched out like an oil painting, breathtakingly beautiful.
It was far more stunning than the beach where they first met.
After a moment, she asked curiously, “What’s so important? I thought we weren’t working for the next ten days…”
Tao Hui’s words trailed off as Han Buji suddenly leaned closer and whispered in her ear, “The important thing is that they’re all working hard at the company right now, earning money to help pay for the baby’s formula.”
His warm, moist breath brushed against Tao Hui’s earlobe as his fingers traced the side of her face. Tao Hui felt dizzy, barely able to ask, “Whose baby?”
“Ours,” Han Buji replied.
