Di Daughter's Strategy - Chapter 47
Chapter 47
A cool touch on her lips left her mind blank for a moment, and she had no more thoughts of wandering.
The man’s movements were unusually assertive, but despite that, his kiss was shallow and exploratory, without any pattern.
Unintentionally, his teeth grazed her lip, causing Luo Yi’er’s eyes to well up with tears.
The man paused, seemingly calm but actually flustered. He took a step back, frowning as he looked at her reddened eyes and the drop of blood on her tender lips, which was quite striking.
He gently wiped away the tear from the corner of her eye with his finger, and a hint of regret flashed in his eyes: “Does it hurt?”
His movements were filled with tenderness as he took out a handkerchief to wipe away the blood on her lips. The blood stain left a dark mark on the handkerchief, and his thin lips pressed into a straight line. The atmosphere around him seemed to cool down a few degrees.
Luo Yi’er’s eyelashes trembled slightly, and she lightly licked her lips. Apart from the initial pain, she didn’t feel anything else.
She opened her wet eyes to look at him, seemingly noticing the regret hidden beneath his calm demeanor. She freed one hand and lightly grasped his sleeve, her voice barely audible, “Your Highness, I’m fine…”
Fang Jinling paused, looking down at her. He saw that she was tilting her pale face up at him, her eyes slightly reddened, and her fine eyebrows furrowed with concern. He felt a surge of tenderness and led her hand toward the desk.
He tested the temperature of the tea, which was still warm, and poured a cup for her. His voice was low, “Consider this an apology, how is it?”
Luo Yi’er smiled slightly, feeling a bit shy: “I don’t deserve Your Highness’s apology.”
Fang Jinling held her hand, his voice calm but with a hint of seriousness: “You deserve it.”
Luo Yi’er didn’t say much more. She took the cup and drank the tea in one gulp, but she choked suddenly. The man beside her frowned slightly and patted her back gently: “Slow down.”
After what had just happened, Luo Yi’er felt a bit awkward. She lowered her head, her face red. They sat in silence in the study for a moment before they heard Wei Feng’s cautious voice outside: “Your Highness, it’s getting late. It’s time for lunch.”
When they went out, Luo Yi’er asked and found out that Princess Qingya had already returned to her mansion. She pursed her lips and looked up at the man beside her, pouting: “Did Your Highness know?”
He replied calmly,, “It’s getting late. She should have returned to her mansion.”
Luo Yi’er was taken aback: “What about me?”
Fang Jinling looked at her: “After lunch, I’ll send you back to your mansion.” His voice remained calm, and he didn’t seem to think that treating them differently was inappropriate.
Luo Yi’er’s eyes showed a hint of hesitation. She pursed her lips and didn’t say anything. After having lunch in the Prince of Jing’s mansion, she was sent back to the Marquis’s mansion by him.
After returning to the mansion, she went to pay her respects to Madam Chu before heading back to Yunxia Courtyard.
As she walked, she noticed that the atmosphere in the mansion seemed a bit heavy. Luo Yi’er’s eyes flickered slightly, but Madam Chu didn’t say much to her.
After returning to Yunxia Courtyard, she hadn’t had a chance to relax when Linglong was summoned. She sat on a purple sandalwood chair, and the maidservants served tea. After taking a sip, Linglong came in.
Without waiting for Luo Yi’er to ask, Linglong frowned and whispered, “Miss, Lady Su has been dealt with.”
Luo Yi’er paused, putting down the teacup and lowering her eyes. She had actually expected this outcome for Lady Su, given her involvement in the witchcraft incident and her schemes against Madam Chu.
The Marquis wouldn’t tolerate her.
Luo Yi’er didn’t feel any sympathy for Lady Su. She responded calmly and moved on from the topic.
At night, a candle lit up Yunxia Courtyard, casting a warm glow. Luo Yi’er lay on the bed, her hair still damp from washing, spread out on the pillow. The maidservants had all retreated, leaving her alone in the room.
She wore a white undergarment and couldn’t sleep despite tossing and turning. Her fingers lightly traced the patterns on the quilt. The silence made her feel a bit lost. Despite reminding herself to stay calm, she couldn’t shake off the thoughts of the man.
Luo Yi’er frowned slightly, feeling a bit annoyed. Suddenly, she felt a surge of inexplicable emotions, and her eyes welled up with tears. She couldn’t explain why she felt this way.
She sat up suddenly, looking toward the soft couch by the window. Her handkerchief was still there. She got out of bed and walked over, seeing the crumpled handkerchief. Her eyes darkened slightly.
She remembered how she had clutched the handkerchief tightly in the Prince of Jing’s study due to nervousness. Thinking about that moment, she frowned and touched her lips.
She considered throwing away the handkerchief but realized how silly that would be. After all, she knew the Prince of Jing treated her differently.
Even if he liked her, what did it matter? She had known about his feelings for a long time. And even if she felt something for him, what then?
They were going to get married anyway.
Why was she hesitating? She had always gone after what she wanted. Why was she being uncertain now?
After thinking it through, Luo Yi’er’s eyes cleared up. She stood by the candle, the light casting shadows on her face.
She raised her eyebrows slightly and threw the handkerchief back onto the soft couch. Then, she walked back to bed and fell asleep soon after, without any more worries.
The next day, when Luo Yi’er woke up, she found out that it had snowed during the night.
The world outside was blanketed in white snow. The servants in Yunxia Courtyard were shoveling snow.
After washing up, Luo Yi’er leaned against the soft couch, propping her head up to look outside.
She hadn’t noticed the snow when she got up during the night. She stretched out her hand to catch a snowflake, and it melted into a cool droplet in an instant.
She gazed out the window, lost in thought. If she went to the Prince of Jing’s mansion today, the red plum blossoms against the white snow would be a beautiful sight. Pansi walked in and saw her stretching out her hand again.
She quickly said, “Miss, please stop playing.”
Pansi closed the window and saw Luo Yi’er lying on the soft couch, looking a bit bored.
She asked, “Miss, the Old Madam’s birthday is coming up soon. Have you thought about what gift to give her?”
Luo Yi’er was taken aback. She had forgotten that the Old Madam’s birthday was at the end of the month.
In previous years, she would have already copied Buddhist scriptures to send to Mingjing Temple for the Old Madam’s blessings.
Pansi noticed her expression and knew she had forgotten. “There’s still time before the Old Madam’s birthday, Miss. You can prepare slowly.”
Pansi then said, “By the way, I’ve heard that the Eldest Miss often visits Cirong Hall recently.”
Luo Yi’er’s eyes flickered slightly. The news must have come from Luoyun Pavilion. Given that Luo Qian often visited Cirong Hall, why was this news being shared now?
She frowned slightly, feeling a sense of unease. She had been neglecting Luo Qian lately, and now that there was a development, it couldn’t be a small matter.
She pinched her eyebrows, her eyes showing a hint of coolness. She had indeed been neglecting the situation in the mansion.
She composed herself and asked Pansi, “Has she been in contact with anyone in the mansion recently?”
Pansi thought for a moment and replied, “The Second Miss has been in a bad mood lately. When she encounters the Eldest Miss, they haven’t had any conflicts.”
Luo Yi’er’s eyebrows arched slightly. This was interesting. She remembered how the two of them used to be at odds. The fact that they weren’t fighting now sparked her curiosity.
Luo Yi’er’s eyes lightened, and she suddenly asked, “Has Lady Qiu sent any letters recently?”
“Of course,” Pansi replied. “Lady Qiu misses the Second Miss dearly and often sends letters to the mansion.”
Luo Yi’er’s fingers tapped on the table, and she looked up at Pansi. “I want to know what was said in those letters.”
“Both the previous and future letters,” she added.
This request might be difficult, as previous letters might have been destroyed. However, Pansi’s expression remained unchanged: “Yes, I remember.”
Luo Yi’er’s eyes curved into a smile. She knew that with Madam Chu’s control over the mansion’s servants, she could find out what she needed.
After giving her instructions, Luo Yi’er looked out the window again, leaning against the soft couch. She propped her head up with one hand, her eyes slightly lowered, looking a bit distracted.
The servants in the mansion were allocated by Madam Chu. If she wanted to know something, she would find a way.
