Chapter 27

The next day, when Luo Yi’er returned from Fang Yun Hall, there was news from Xiaoxi.

“It was Qingling who sent back the news. Last night, she saw Biyu sneaking out of Luoyun Pavilion. She followed her and saw Xiaoxi not far from Luoyun Pavilion.”

Luo Yi’er’s eyes deepened slightly, “Did they talk to each other?”

Pansi shook her head, “No, Qingling said Biyu just went out for a while and didn’t even meet Xiaoxi. After passing by the plum forest, Xiaoxi arrived and stayed for almost the time it takes to burn a stick of incense before leaving.”

After listening to Pansi, Luo Yi’er fell silent for a moment and sighed softly, “Ah, Qingling is no longer useful.”

Pansi bowed her head and didn’t respond, but she thought that Miss was right.
An exposed agent had lost her value.

Luo Yi’er looked up and smiled faintly, “She wants to be transferred out of Luoyun Pavilion, doesn’t she?”

Qingling had lost Luo Qian’s trust and was gradually losing her status in Luoyun Pavilion. She couldn’t bear the difference in treatment and had asked Linglong to pass on a message, hoping that Luo Yi’er could transfer her out.

Her delicate fingers touched the osmanthus cake on the plate, and Pansi saw the cake turn into crumbs. She glanced at it briefly before shifting her gaze and lowering her body.
She heard Miss’s soft voice, “Tell her that after this matter is settled, I’ll let her leave the mansion.”

Luo Yi’er gazed in the southeast direction, her lips curving into a gentle smile. She withdrew her gaze and played with the note that Pansi had just handed her. She raised her eyes and handed the note back to Pansi, her voice carrying a subtle, unnoticeable meaning, “Have someone copy this handwriting onto another note, and write…”

She leaned in close to Pan Si’s ear and whispered a few words. Her eyes curved into a smile, and the amusement in them deepened.

Luoyun Pavilion was located in the southeast direction of the mansion. Two masters lived there, and Luo Qian had waited until she received the news before retiring for the night.

Since the last time the fifth miss had left the mansion with the third miss, she had rarely left Luoyun Pavilion. Now, Luo Qian listened to the noise upstairs and picked a jade hairpin from the dressing table to insert into her hair.

Biyu applied two touches of rouge to her cheeks. While others in the mansion might not remember what day it was, the eldest miss would never forget, because today was the birthday of her mother, Concubine Qing.

Concubine Qing’s status in the mansion was awkward, and naturally, no one would specifically remember her birthday.

Luo Qian’s usually cold face showed some warmth today. She instructed Biyu, “Bring the two sets of clothes I sewed earlier.”

She opened the brocade box on the dressing table, revealing a string of pearl necklace. Concubine Qing liked plump and full pearls. When Luo Qian was serving Madam Chu, Madam Chu knew of her preference and would often bestow gifts accordingly.

However, after those incidents, Concubine Qing wore plain clothes and didn’t wear any jewelry.

Luo Qian touched the pearl necklace, and her eyes seemed to hold some melancholy. This necklace was still something she had asked her father for before her rebirth. At that time, Luo Fu had said, “Eldest sister is still in her youth, why would she like such things?”

Although the necklace was full and beautiful, it wasn’t suitable for her.

Even after rebirth, Luo Qian still felt a chill in her heart when she thought of her father’s gaze at that time. Although he ultimately gave her the necklace, his words had been pointed: “Your mother has taken care of you for many years, don’t make her worry.”

Those words had crushed the courage she had mustered. She hadn’t given the necklace away before she died.

She closed the brocade box, hiding her emotions, and stood up, her voice cold, “Let’s go.”

She led Biyu and Qingling towards the Pear Garden. On the third floor, Luo Ying heard the movement and poked her head out of the window, asking Fuling curiously, “Where is she going?”

Fuling thought for a moment, “She should be going to see Concubine Qing.”

Luo Ying’s eyes lit up, “Ah, Mother said that Concubine Qing should rest in the Pear Garden and not be disturbed by others. Eldest sister is openly defying orders!”

“Maybe the eldest miss has something important,” Fuling said, trying to mediate.

Luo Ying rolled her eyes, “What could she possibly have? Go, tell second sister that eldest sister is heading towards the Pear Garden. Hurry! Catch up before she arrives!”
After Fuling left, Luo Ying thought it wouldn’t be safe and hurried downstairs with her momo.

The governess called out bitterly, “My Miss, what are you doing now?”

Luo Ying’s mother, Concubine Gao, was the daughter of a concubine of the prefect of Liangzhou. Like Concubine Su, she was brought back by Luo Yu’an when he came south. This governess had come to the mansion with Concubine Gao and had been serving Luo Ying since Concubine Gao’s difficult labor.

Madam Chu hadn’t made things difficult for her and had allowed her to stay by Luo Ying’s side, partly out of consideration for Concubine Gao’s obedience.

Luo Ying pouted at her and said petulantly, “Momo, please come with me and stop the eldest sister. She accused me in front of Mother, and I haven’t settled the score with her yet!”

The Momo had always spoiled her and couldn’t stop her now. She followed Luo Ying, chasing after Luo Qian.

She knew Luo Qian was heading to the Pear Garden, so she took a shortcut. Standing on the path in the small garden, she saw Luo Qian walking calmly in that direction. Luo Ying glanced at Biyu, who was carrying a bundle, and her eyes sparkled.

Just as Luo Qian’s group was about to approach, Luo Ying suddenly called out and rushed towards them in a panic. Luo Qian looked up, saw her running towards her, and frowned, wondering what she was up to. Before she could think much, she dodged to the side to avoid her.

Before she could breathe a sigh of relief, she heard several gasps behind her. She quickly turned around, her face changing, and couldn’t help but scold, “Luo Ying!”

On the ground ahead, Luo Ying and Biyu were tangled together. Luo Ying was holding her waist in pain, her face full of grievance and pain, as if she was about to cry. Biyu had been knocked into by Luo Ying and was also in pain. Her face turned pale, and the things she was holding scattered all over the ground.

The Momo who had been following Luo Ying suddenly rushed over and hugged her, looking at her with concern, “Miss, are you okay?”

Luo Ying buried her face in the momo’s arms and cried out, “Momo, I’m in so much pain! My body hurts so much!”

She was only ten years old, and her childish cry made it hard not to feel sympathetic. The momo held her in her arms, seemingly forgetting everyone else.
Luo Qian’s body trembled slightly with anger as she looked at the scattered objects on the ground, clenching her teeth and saying, “What are you doing, rushing out without reason!”

Luo Ying poked her head out, her eyes red, and her face filled with grievance and fear, “There’s a snake in the bushes.”

“Absurd!” Luo Qian was furious, “The mansion is cleaned every day, where would there be a snake? Even if you want to make an excuse, you should come up with a more believable one!”

The momo holding Luo Ying immediately became displeased, “Why is the eldest miss so angry? The one who fell to the ground is our miss, not the eldest miss!”

As she spoke, she helped Luo Ying up. Luo Ying used her strength to stand up, her eyes glancing at a necklace on the ground. Just as she was about to step on it, Luo Qian’s pupils contracted, and she shouted sternly, “Don’t move!”

However, she was a bit late.
Luo Ying flinched at her shout, and her embroidered shoe landed on the necklace. Before she could react, Luo Qian pushed her away, and even the momo behind her didn’t react in time. Both of them fell to the ground again.

Luo Qian crouched down, holding the necklace tightly in her hand. Her fingers were white with force, but the necklace was still stained with dirt. She clenched her fist tightly, her nails digging into her palm, and managed to hold back the moisture in her eyes.

This necklace had been on her mind for years, and she had felt guilty for years. She thought she could finally give it to the person today, but it didn’t reach their hands after all.

Her half-crouched body trembled slightly. Biyu stood up, holding her waist, and walked behind her, trying to comfort her despite the pain. But she heard Luo Ying’s angry shout behind her, “Luo Qian, what are you doing!”

If she had intentionally collided with Biyu earlier and hadn’t gotten hurt badly, then Luo Qian’s push had made her feel the full extent of Biyu’s pain. She was fine, but the momo, who was older and had been trying to protect her, couldn’t withstand the impact. She clutched her waist, groaning in pain and unable to get up.

Luo Ying supported herself with the help of a maid and half-sat up, angrily questioning Luo Qian.

But Luo Qian suddenly looked up at her, her eyes icy cold, with a deep-seated hatred. Luo Ying was taken aback, feeling a bit stunned, and her anger began to wane. She forced herself to shout, “What are you looking at!”

Luo Qian’s cold gaze made her feel chilled to the bone. Just as she was feeling uncertain, she heard some movement nearby.

Luo Ying turned her head and saw Luo Fu, who had been notified by Fuling, arriving.
Luo Fu saw the situation and quickly stopped, frowning at Luo Qian and pretending to be concerned, “What are you doing, eldest sister? Fifth sister is still young, and even if she did something to upset you, you can’t just hit her!”

Luo Fu supported Luo Ying and stood up. Luo Qian was still crouched on the ground. Luo Fu couldn’t help but think to herself that her mother had mentioned Luo Qian being superior to her several times, but she just couldn’t see it. What did Luo Qian have besides being the eldest daughter that she could compare to her?

She looked at Luo Qian coldly and said, “Eldest sister, don’t you think you should apologize to fifth sister?”

She glanced at the necklace in Luo Qian’s hand and nudged Luo Ying’s back with her elbow. Luo Ying understood and said, “It’s just a necklace. I’ll compensate you. Father gave me a white jade bracelet recently, and I’ll give it to you.”

Luo Qian stood up, still holding the necklace tightly in her hand. She turned and walked towards the Pear Garden without looking back. When Luo Ying finished speaking, she didn’t even raise her head and said, “No need.”
The words seemed to be squeezed out, filled with a chill.

Qingling had been watching from the side. When she saw Luo Qian walking away, she quickly bent down to pick up the scattered objects and followed behind her. But then she saw the second miss step forward, blocking Luo Qian’s path and sneering, “You think you can just walk away like that?”

She nodded towards Luo Ying and suggested that Luo Qian should apologize to her.
“You hit someone, shouldn’t you apologize to the fifth sister?”
Luo Qian clutched the necklace tightly in her hand, her voice firm and cold, “Luo Fu, you’re going too far!”

How could there be a snake in the mansion? The excuse Luo Ying came up with was so ridiculous. Today, they were clearly trying to make things difficult for her, and yet they were still pushing her to apologize.
It was simply outrageous!

Luo Fu saw her gloomy face and sneered, her eyes glancing at the necklace clutched in Luo Qian’s hand. She swatted at the necklace, frowning impatiently, “It’s just a broken necklace! You’re so attached to it! If you talk about it outside, won’t you be embarrassed in front of the entire Marquis family?”

Luo Qian didn’t let go, and Luo Fu’s swipe didn’t knock the necklace out of her hand. Her face darkened, and she disliked Luo Qian’s gloomy demeanor. She had always disliked how Luo Qian used to be so weak and pitiful, and now she had become aloof and even more annoying.

A flash of emotion crossed her eyes, and seeing how much Luo Qian treasured the necklace, a cold smile flickered on her lips. She reached out to grab it, but just as she did, the necklace suddenly broke, and the pearls scattered all over the ground, rolling into the grass and disappearing from sight.

Luo Qian felt a tug on the necklace, and the fine thread cut into her palm, causing a moment of tension. Suddenly, pearls were scattered all over the ground.
Her body trembled slightly.
Luo Ying stood nearby, her eyes wide with surprise, and took a step back, holding onto the momo. But Luo Fu wasn’t satisfied yet. She reached out and pushed Luo Qian, saying impatiently, “Eldest sister, I’m talking to you! Did you hear me? I want you to apologize to fifth sister—ah!”

Luo Fu’s face was shocked, and before she could finish her sentence, she felt a stinging pain on her left cheek.
She couldn’t help but turn her face to the side. When she realized what had happened, she touched her cheek in disbelief.

Luo Ying’s pupils constricted, and she looked at Luo Qian like she was crazy. She hadn’t expected the usually silent and reserved person to explode like this.
It was so shocking.
Luo Ying was young and had many schemes, but even she felt a shiver run down her spine, especially when she saw Luo Qian’s terrifying gaze.

For a moment, she thought she saw third sister, but the third sister would never hit. She used soft tactics that were gentle but made people shiver to the bone.
She shrunk into the momo’s arms, and the momo closed her mouth, no longer wailing in pain. After all, the eldest miss had hit the second miss, so what was a old servant like her?

In the sudden silence of the garden, Luo Fu finally regained her composure. Her eyes were filled with anger and humiliation from being slapped in public, and she almost seemed to be on the verge of breaking down, “Luo Qian, you’ve gone crazy!”

She covered her face with one hand, her eyes red as she looked at Luo Qian. Seeing that Luo Qian’s expression remained cold and unchanging, she reached out to slap her back, but was stopped by Luo Qian.
Luo Fu was furious, her whole body shaking with anger.

Luo Qian’s eyes were icy cold, and she said coolly, “Second sister’s manners are lacking. She doesn’t know that one shouldn’t touch other people’s belongings without permission. As the eldest sister, it’s my duty to teach her.”

“Today, I’ll teach you on Mother’s behalf!”

As she finished speaking, her eyes flashed with a fierce glint. Before anyone could react, she raised her hand and slapped Luo Fu’s face again.

Luo Fu’s left cheek was visibly red and swollen. She trembled slightly as she tried to touch her cheek, but it hurt too much. She suddenly let out a desperate scream, “Ah!”

Luo Qian looked at Luo Fu’s reaction with a cold gaze. Just as everyone in the garden was intimidated by her actions, a calm voice came from behind them, “I’d like to know who claimed to teach someone on my behalf.”
