Chapter 83: The Golden Body Rises—Dare Even the Ancient Gods Run Wild?

Li Yan had barely stepped inside when he heard the Sword Immortal and the Shadow Old Demon locked in a heated argument.

The Old Demon, surrounded by his Ancient God Believers, was attempting to open the Ancient God’s Tomb and awaken its Master.

It seemed the Old Demon had lost all hope of breaking through, his lifespan nearing its end. In his final act of desperation, he planned to awaken the Ancient God, grovel before it, and beg for the Dao of Immortality.

The Shadow Old Demon’s face twisted into a grotesque snarl, his eyes blazing with a crimson light. “All who stand between me and Immortality must die!”

Obscured Moon, while attempting to shatter the barrier protecting him, retorted, “What if you’re wrong? Are you gambling with our lives and the future of Immortal Cultivation for generations to come?”

The utterly selfish Old Demon scoffed at her challenge. “If I’m wrong? After I’m gone, who cares if the world drowns in chaos! Each generation must carve its own path—let’s enjoy the wine we have today!”

The Old Demon cared nothing for the fate of others, not even if the entire Immortal Cultivation World crumbled and the land became a sea of suffering. “Why should I give a damn?”

“I cultivated Evil Techniques, sacrificing my lifespan for power. Now that my life force is nearly exhausted and a breakthrough remains elusive, what a waste it would be for all my Great Ascension Stage cultivation power to vanish with my death!”

The Old Demon refused to accept this fate. He wouldn’t simply wither away. Before dying, he would drag everyone down with him.

“If we’re playing a game, let’s make it a grand one. We’ll open this God’s Tomb and drag everyone to their doom together!”

If his gamble paid off, he would attain immortality. If he lost? Well, he was going to die anyway.

Facing the Shadow Old Demon’s twisted, deranged visage, the Obscured Moon Sword Immortal’s Moon Essence Sword slowly tore through his Dharma Shield barrier.

Her willow-leaf brows furrowed, her eyes blazing with hatred. “We Fellow Daoists have cultivated diligently, step by step, yet you would ruin our Immortal Fate for your own selfish ends? I won’t let you run rampant!”

Obscured Moon naturally couldn’t accept this. Their Cultivation Base had been painstakingly built through talent and relentless effort. They had stolen nothing, cheated no one—they simply wanted to cultivate in peace.

Yet the Old Demon sought to drag them all to their doom, forcing them into a reckless gamble. Who knew what horrors he might unleash?

Clearly, both sides held unshakable convictions.

Gathered around the Shadow Old Demon were scores of wizened elders, their life force nearing its end, unwilling to accept their impending demise. In their final hours, desperate for any salvation, they clung to the reckless hope of awakening an Ancient God.

Meanwhile, the other Immortal Cultivators still had ample years ahead. Having ascended to immortality through their own merits, why should they risk awakening such a being?

As their heated debate raged on, Li Yan calmly strode forward, placing himself at the forefront of the conflict.

Not a single earth-shattering spell could leave a mark on him.

Amid the stunned gazes of the crowd, Li Yan casually strolled between the warring factions, positioning himself between their clashing forces.

The power capable of tearing apart Great Ascension Stage Immortals had no effect on Li Yan.

Although everyone knew Li Yan was an Immortal from the White Jade Capital, seeing him standing so confidently in the middle of the battlefield, impervious to the Immortal Techniques flying from both sides, sent shivers down their spines. What level of cultivation was required to withstand such forces?

Li Yan clasped his hands behind his back, gazing at the stubborn old men ahead.

When his lips parted slightly, everyone held their breath, straining to hear his words.

“Buried here is the Ancient God, the Bloodline Emperor.”

“If he awakens, the Immortal Art Era will end, and the Era of Dharma Decline will descend!”

Hearing this, the Shadow Old Demon was momentarily stunned. The other Ancient God Believers, their lifespans nearing their end and desperate for a chance, also froze in place.

Seeing their resolve waver, the Obscured Moon Sword Immortal’s face lit up with joy. “Master has arrived!” she exclaimed. “If Master says so, these fools will finally abandon their delusions about the Ancient God.”

However, Cinder Annihilation Fairy beside her remained unconvinced. “Not necessarily,” she said. “These old geezers are stubborn to the core. A few words from Master won’t make them give up so easily.”

Faced with Li Yan, this Immortal from the White Jade Capital, the faith of those opposing him began to waver. Near the Old Demon, a group of white-haired elders began whispering among themselves.

“The Immortal Art Era ending?”

“The Era of Dharma Decline is upon us?”

“Is what this Immortal Clan cultivator is saying true?”

“Bloodline Emperor? We’ve never heard of him, yet he knows the name of the tomb’s master?”

“If the Era of Dharma Decline has truly arrived, what’s the point of cultivating immortality anymore?”

It was clear that Li Yan’s words had shaken the Ancient God Believers. They were beginning to doubt whether their actions were too reckless.

Seeing their resolve waver, the one-armed Shadow Old Demon gritted his teeth and roared, “Don’t listen to his lies!”

“I received a Divine Decree myself! As long as we break the seal on the God’s Tomb, we can awaken the Ancient God and claim our reward!”

“A Divine Decree?” Li Yan raised an eyebrow. “Where did a Great Ascension Stage cultivator like you get such a wild fantasy?”

Shadow Old Demon stubbornly shouted, “Fellow Daoists, don’t be swayed by him!”

“The God’s Tomb is about to open! We will all achieve eternal life! We’ve come this far! How much of our loved ones’ blood and bones did we sacrifice to open the gates of this God’s Tomb?”

“Did your sacrificed Dao Companions, relatives, and disciples die in vain?”

“We’ve offered countless sacrifices to open the God’s Tomb! Eternal life is within our grasp—are you really going to abandon it now?”

Li Yan watched Shadow Old Demon’s frenzied, almost possessed screaming.

A faint blue light flickered in Li Yan’s eyes. His Spirit Vision allowed him to see what others couldn’t.

He spotted a blood-red centipede clinging to Shadow Old Demon’s head—the Old Demon’s Lower Corpse Worm, representing his carnal desires.

Generally, Immortal Cultivators don’t awaken their Three Corpses until they prepare to Sever the Three Corpses. This Lower Corpse Worm clearly hadn’t been summoned voluntarily.

This Lower Corpse Worm… it must have been awakened by an Ancient God!

Realizing this, Li Yan strode forward.

Shadow Old Demon, facing him, frantically shouted, “Stop him! Stop him now!”

Countless attacks rained down on Li Yan, yet he remained unharmed, advancing steadily.

At that moment, a bold idea formed in Li Yan’s mind.

Clutching the Blood Glazed Lotus Lamp, he silently chanted, “Golden Body, arise!”

Instantly, Li Yan’s Golden Body enveloped everyone present, including the fanatical Shadow Old Demon.

Obscured Moon and the others exchanged puzzled glances. What was this Immortal Clan member planning?

But the moment Li Yan’s Golden Body enveloped Shadow Old Demon, the Old Demon, who had been howling hysterically moments before, instantly regained his sanity.

“Hmm? What just happened to this old one?”

The Shadow Old Demon, who had been consumed by madness moments before, gradually regained his senses.

He looked at Li Yan, who was also watching him.

Then, with a thud, the Shadow Old Demon dropped to his knees.

“Immortal Master! Immortal Master, save me!”

This sudden reversal caught everyone off guard.

The Sect Master of the Demon Shadow Sect, notorious for his arrogance and countless killings, was now kneeling before Li Yan.

Obscured Moon and the Cinder Annihilation Fairy stared in stunned disbelief.

“What’s going on?”

“Master just walked over there. Why is the Shadow Old Demon suddenly kneeling and weeping so bitterly?”

Only Li Yan knew the truth: the Lower Corpse Worm had seized control of the Shadow Old Demon’s Divine Soul, plunging him into madness.

But just then, a crimson light flashed from the depths of the Ancient Tomb.

A Lower Corpse Worm materialized above the heads of every Immortal Cultivator, including Obscured Moon Sword Immortal and the Cinder Annihilation Fairy!

It was then that Li Yan understood.

The reason so many had died in God’s Tomb years ago wasn’t just the traps. It was because the Lower Corpse Worms within all the Cultivators had been awakened, and their suppressed evil desires had erupted from their bellies.

God’s Tomb had become a slaughterhouse.

How unfortunate.

With Li Yan present this time, did they really think they could make the Immortals turn on each other?

Clutching the Blood Glazed Lotus Lamp, Li Yan unleashed countless shadows.
