Chapter 82: Three Corpses Worm, Divine Soul Ablaze

Yin Erosion devoured Li Yan’s Divine Soul, consuming the shadowy figure.

This incomplete Inverted Bagua Formation came with severe side effects.

Amidst these intense side effects, Li Yan felt his soul’s strength rapidly increasing.

Simultaneously, his Spirit Vision was also being enhanced.

When his Spirit Vision leaped from 1 to 11 points, Li Yan saw something he had never seen before—a terrifying entity!

His pupils trembled violently as his gaze locked onto the distant mountain peak where the God’s Tomb stood.

Coiled around the peak, spanning a thousand miles, lay a colossal centipede.

Its limbs were bare bone, yet its head bore a delicate human face, creating a grotesquely incongruous and unsettling sight.

“A centipede…”

The term “Sever the Three Corpses” flashed instinctively through Li Yan’s mind—a concept from Immortal Cultivation.

The Lower Corpse Worm, Peng Jiao, often manifested as a venomous snake or centipede. Severing the Three Corpses was an essential step for Immortal Cultivators seeking to attain enlightenment and become saints.

The Three Corpses represented the Good Corpse, Evil Corpse, and Ego Corpse.

But whose Lower Corpse Worm was this human-faced centipede?

Could its monstrous appearance be a manifestation of some deity’s Three Corpses?

Could this thousand-mile-long Lower Corpse Worm be the Three Corpses of the Ancient God entombed within the tomb?

Fortunately, the Lower Corpse Worm remained coiled among the mountains, showing no interest in Li Yan and his group.

If such a colossal creature were to stir…

Li Yan swallowed hard, muttering to himself, “Can I really see someone else’s Three Corpses?”

“It’s said that Patriarch Hongjun severed his Three Corpses and merged them to attain sainthood, becoming the spokesperson for the Heavenly Dao.”

“But what about this Ancient God’s Lower Corpse Worm? Did he achieve godhood without severing his Three Corpses?”

Having witnessed too much, Li Yan’s Divine Soul felt dizzy and overwhelmed.

The old saying proved true: the more one knows, the more one fears.

When he was a fledgling cultivator, the world had seemed vast and boundless, inspiring fearlessness and wonder.

But the deeper he delved into this bizarre world, the more he learned, and the more he realized that knowledge wasn’t always a blessing.

What stretched for thousands of miles wasn’t a dragon—it was a Lower Corpse Worm.

The visual impact of such a massive Ghost Object draped across an entire mountain range was utterly shocking to the soul.

If he hadn’t seen it, he wouldn’t have given it a second thought.

But now Li Yan had glimpsed things he never could before. Higher Spirit Vision wasn’t necessarily a blessing.

Li Yan forced his gaze downward, desperately trying to avoid looking at the Lower Corpse Worm sprawled across the mountain range.

Li Yan took a deep breath, steadying his mind.

As long as I remain in the Dream Realm, not reality, I’m effectively immortal, he thought. I’d rather alter the past in this dream than ever encounter such a horror in reality.

Ideally, he could use his immortality to help these Immortal Cultivators rewrite history.

With his Dao Heart stabilized, Li Yan grew even calmer.

While Li Yan faced his fear head-on, those behind him remained oblivious.

Even the Obscured Moon Sword Immortal and the Cinder Annihilation Fairy, despite their Great Ascension Stage cultivation, lacked Spirit Vision and couldn’t perceive the Ghost Object.

The two Fairies marveled, “Our Master subdued these eight Dragon-Severing Pillars with a mere gesture!”

Reverence shone in the Sword Immortal’s eyes.

“Master effortlessly suppressed the Inverted Eight Trigrams Formation, ensuring our safety.”

“Without Master’s intervention, how many Fellow Daoists would have perished trying to force their way through these eight Dragon-Severing Pillars?”

“When will I ever attain such divine power as Master?”

Li Yan, however, didn’t let the Fairies’ praise inflate his ego or cloud his judgment.

His voice remained steady. “Pass through quickly!”

The towering Golden Body Dharma Idol shrouded the poisonous miasma, allowing the Cultivators to safely traverse the area.

Hearing this, the Cultivators dared not delay. They streamed past the Golden Body Dharma Idol from both sides, countless figures flashing before Li Yan’s eyes as they surged into the God’s Tomb.

Watching their retreating backs, Li Yan knew that if the history of the Dream Realm remained unchanged, nearly all of them would perish within the God’s Tomb.

In time, the tomb itself would slowly sink into the earth. Over thirty thousand years would pass before Daoist Tranquil Void unearthed the bones of these Immortal Cultivators.

Standing amidst the eight broken Dragon-Severing Pillars, Li Yan glanced back.

Tens of thousands more Immortal Cultivators had formed ranks in the sky behind him, creating a living wall suspended in mid-air.

“Are those Cultivators reinforcements?” Li Yan inquired.

The Dragon-Tiger Immortal Venerable beside him straightened his posture immediately. “Reporting to Senior, those are Disciples from the various Righteous Path Sects. They’re positioned to guard the rear.”

“Should any Demonic Path villains attack, they will hold them at bay.”

It seemed the battle for the God’s Tomb extended beyond its confines. Defenses were needed on the perimeter to prevent Demonic Path villains from launching a pincer attack.

Li Yan nodded. “Hurry inside. I’ll dismantle this Formation and join you shortly.”

“Yes!”

Once everyone had entered the God’s Tomb, Li Yan finished absorbing the Formation’s Evil Yin.

Lines of text materialized before his eyes:

Host has fully absorbed the Formation’s Evil Yin, strengthening the Divine Soul.

Your Divine Soul has advanced from Ninth-Rank Initial Awakening to Eighth-Rank Comprehension.

The Divine Soul is divided into Three Chapters of the Mortal Realm, Three Awakenings of the Spirit Realm, and Three Tribulations of the Heavenly Dao.

As Li Yan’s Divine Soul reached Eighth-Rank, the Blood Glazed Lotus Lamp in his hand suddenly flared, emitting an intense crimson glow.

With the strengthening of his Divine Soul, the lampwick ignited with raging flames, and his Nirvana Golden Body doubled in size.

Like an inflating balloon, Li Yan’s Golden Body Dharma Idol rose from the ground, soaring to a height of over fifty zhang.

Previously, his Golden Body Dharma Idol had been faint and translucent, almost ethereal.

Now, its color deepened significantly, becoming more solid and tangible.

The larger the Golden Body Dharma Idol, the greater the area it could encompass.

Watching the flames of the Lotus Lamp intensify, Li Yan suddenly understood.

“It’s not just through cultivation that one can advance! Strengthening my Divine Soul can cause a qualitative transformation in my Golden Body Dharma Idol!”

“This Dream Realm only slightly enhances my cultivation base, but it allows me to refine my Divine Soul significantly.”

Watching his Golden Body Dharma Idol grow larger and more solid, Li Yan absorbed the last traces of Evil Yin energy lingering in the area. Without lingering, he immediately stepped into the God’s Tomb.

As he entered the cavern, the incessant sounds of explosions and clashing weapons echoed from within. Quickening his pace, Li Yan ventured deeper into the God’s Tomb and witnessed a fierce battle between Immortal Cultivators and Ancient God Believers. Both sides had erected Dharma Shields, their dark and light energies colliding in a maelstrom of sparks.

Among the Ancient God Believers, Li Yan recognized an old acquaintance: the one-armed Old Demon of the Demon Shadow Sect, standing at the forefront of the group. Surrounded by Heretical Cultivators, the Old Demon held up his shield with a single hand, a cold smile twisting his lips.

“Unteachable fools!” he sneered. “Why don’t you join me in awakening the Ancient God? When He rises, the Dao of Supreme Bliss will descend upon this land, and we shall all attain Immortality!”

At the head of the Immortal Cultivators, Obscured Moon Sword Immortal retorted, “You’re gambling! What guarantee do you have about the nature of the deity residing within this God’s Tomb? What if it’s an Extraterrestrial Evil God?”

Shadow Old Demon cackled grotesquely. “So what if it’s an Extraterrestrial Evil God? As long as it grants me Immortality, I’d happily serve as its hound!”
