Chapter 30: A Sly Scheme Turns Allies into Bitter Foes

Two shadows, like venomous snakes, stretched endlessly across the ground, silently approaching Xuanwang’s group under the cover of the dense mist.

Xuanwang, seeing the Soul Lamp extinguish, mistakenly believed Li Yan was dead.

With Li Yan’s apparent demise, a subtle shift occurred in the relationship between Old Ghost Xuanwang and Xuansha.

Previously, their shared desire to capture Li Yan had united them, with the two Senior Brothers working together to track down the traitorous disciple.

But now that Li Yan was supposedly dead, their alliance gradually dissolved into rivalry.

Mingshan, Li Yan’s Eldest Senior Brother, was currently locked in a heated argument with a disciple from Martial Uncle Xuansha’s Blood Fiend Hall.

“I found this Lower Grade Storage Ring first!” Mingshan shouted, drawing his sword and pointing it at the other disciple. “Does your Blood Fiend Hall think you can just snatch what’s mine?”

The Blood Fiend Hall disciple sneered. “Tranquil Void Temple’s Eldest Senior Brother, out of respect for our Masters’ shared lineage as fellow disciples, I won’t lower myself to argue with you.”

“Whoever grabs the Storage Ring first, keeps it.”

Martial Uncle Xuansha’s Blood Fiend Hall was notorious for its disciples’ vicious temperaments, resembling mountain bandits more than cultivators.

Although both Xuanwang and Xuansha belonged to the Xuan generation, their sects had long since split, founding the Tranquil Void Temple and Blood Fiend Hall respectively.

When they were united in the search for Li Yan, they could maintain a facade of civility.

But now?

Now, only the burning desire for treasures remained, and all pretense of camaraderie had vanished.

Old Ghost Xuanwang, seeing his disciple arguing with someone, immediately strode over and slapped the Blood Fiend Hall disciple across the face.

“Insolent!” he roared. “My disciple Mingshan saw it first! How dare you try to snatch it by force!”

Fiercely protective of his own, Xuanwang didn’t hesitate to strike again.

The Blood Fiend Hall disciple paled with terror. “Martial Uncle, I…”

Suddenly, a boisterous laugh echoed from the mist.

“Junior Brother Xuanwang, what an impressive display of might!”

“How dare you bully my disciple? Are you trying to vent all your anger on him?”

The towering Xuansha, his muscular frame rippling as if ready to explode, strode forward.

Their quarrel over the spoils created an opening Li Yan had been waiting for, concealed in the shadows.

“Xuanwang and Xuansha… they know the small courtesies but lack true righteousness, obsessed with trivialities while ignoring grand principles, narrow-minded and petty.”

“Their greed makes them easy to manipulate…”

A plan formed in Li Yan’s mind. With a flick of his finger, he manipulated his shadow to create a subtle disturbance.

Hearing the sound, Xuanwang and Xuansha both turned their heads sharply.

“Who’s there!”

Forgetting their animosity for the moment, they focused on the figure emerging from the mist.

As the silhouette drew closer, Old Ghost Xuanwang narrowed his eyes to slits.

“Could it be…? Has that traitorous disciple not died after all?”

As they remained on high alert, the figure in the mist drew closer until it materialized before them.

It wasn’t Li Yan, but a Corpse lost in Broken Sword Valley, dragging its lifeless limbs as it staggered toward them.

“Just a Corpse…”

“Hmm? What’s that it’s holding?”

The group noticed the Corpse clutching a Blood-Drinking Sword of exceptional quality.

“An ancient Demonic Cultivator’s Magic Artifact? A Fifth-Grade Blood-Drinking Sword?”

Xuansha, a connoisseur of such things, immediately recognized the artifact’s origin.

Greed flooded the group’s minds, their eyes widening in unison.

Xuansha, his face obscured by a thick beard, roared with laughter. “Junior Brother, this Blood-Drinking Sword is perfect for our Blood Fiend Hall! Senior Brother won’t hold back!”

The One-Eyed Old Ghost immediately lunged forward, cackling maliciously. “Senior Brother, have you forgotten the virtues of respecting the elderly? This sword should belong to me, the Junior Brother. Let me do the honors!”

As the two old ghosts scrambled for the Fifth-Grade Blood-Drinking Sword, Li Yan grinned, a hint of mockery in his expression.

“Plastic fellowship as expected. But a Fifth-Grade Blood-Drinking Sword is quite the temptation for them.”

“I’ve gone all-in on this gamble. Let’s see what kind of show they put on.”

Indeed.

Li Yan had deliberately placed the Blood-Drinking Sword in the Corpse’s hand.

Corpses have no brains; they instinctively grip whatever is thrust into their hands.

Moreover, the Corpse showed no interest in shadows and didn’t attack Li Yan’s.

With a simple trick, Li Yan had Xuanwang and Xuansha scrambling for the Blood-Drinking Sword.

The next step would be even easier.

Having gauged their insatiable greed, Li Yan activated the Blood Shadow Art.

“Thrust!”

In the swirling mist, Li Yan’s shadows moved like spectral wraiths.

Two shadow figures materialized silently among the disciples, one on each side.

The Tranquil Void Temple and Blood Fiend Hall disciples remained oblivious to the shadows creeping beneath their feet.

One shadow wielded a longsword, the other a bone spear. At random, they lunged at two unsuspecting victims.

Twin screams pierced the air, drawing everyone’s attention.

Two disciples, one from the Tranquil Void Temple and the other from the Blood Fiend Hall, clutched their bleeding back wounds, cursing furiously.

“Who stabbed me?!”

“Was it you! You’ve been acting shifty all day!”

“Bullshit! You dare accuse this Daoist master, you son of a bitch?”

“This sword wound proves you did it!”

“Then how do you explain this spear wound on my back?!”

The disciples from the Tranquil Void Temple and the Blood Fiend Hall erupted into a brawl.

Starting with shoves and pushes, the fight escalated to punches, and finally blades and spears were drawn, clashing in a bloody free-for-all.

Meanwhile, Xuanwang and Xuansha were locked in a heated argument over a Fifth-Grade Blood-Drinking Sword.

As their disciples descended into a bloody free-for-all, the two senior brothers turned on each other.

“Xuanwang, you old dog! Your disciple dared to ambush my third apprentice with a spear to the kidneys? You’re playing dirty!”

“Senior Brother, I think there’s been a misunderstanding.”

Old Ghost Xuanwang’s eyes darted around, sensing something amiss.

But the burly Xuansha had long harbored resentment toward his junior brother.

“Xuanwang, you old dog! Don’t think I’ve forgotten how you seduced Junior Sister Xuanjing, sweet-talking her into your Cave Mansion and refining her spirit! I know the truth!”

Old Ghost Xuanwang’s eyes widened, his face flushing crimson. “That’s not true! I didn’t kill her! She triggered the trap herself—it was an accident, not my fault!”

Martial Uncle Xuansha refused to let go of the past. “So, to save your own skin, you abandoned Junior Sister Xuanjing and left her to die alone in that Cave Mansion?”

“Senior Brother, hear me out!”

Old Ghost Xuanwang desperately wanted to avoid a fight in Broken Sword Valley—this was no place for such a thing.

But at that moment, a Flying Bone Sword suddenly emerged from the mist, hurtling toward Martial Uncle Xuansha.

Hearing the whizzing sound behind him, the burly giant instinctively dodged sideways.

He glanced back.

“The Flying Bone Sword? Xuanwang, you old dog! Not only did you kill my Junior Sister, but now you’re trying to kill me too?”

“You don’t even know how to spell ‘death’!”

Xuansha didn’t hesitate. He threw a thunderous punch at the One-Eyed Old Daoist.

“Senior Brother, someone’s framing me!” Xuanwang finally realized he was being set up.

Martial Uncle Xuansha roared, “That Flying Bone Sword is your Magic Artifact! Don’t try to weasel out of this! Do you think I’m a fool?”

Behind the scenes, Li Yan watched their bloody spectacle with a sinister smile.

As for where the Flying Bone Sword came from?

An hour earlier, the Old Daoist had been chasing Li Yan, firing the flying sword at him. Li Yan had picked it up and repurposed it.

The moment Martial Uncle Xuansha saw the Flying Bone Sword, his rage exploded. He transformed into a bloodthirsty fiend.

Two peak Blood Shifting Realm cultivators began their deadly dance before Li Yan’s eyes.

All of this was orchestrated by Li Yan, who had merely flicked his fingers to manipulate his Shadow, setting the stage for their mutual destruction.

Old Ghost Xuanwang and Martial Uncle Xuansha traded blows, the thunderous impacts echoing through Broken Sword Valley.

Beside Li Yan, Corpse Puppet Su Mo gazed at him with pure adoration.

“Master, you’re amazing!”

Su Mo’s tiny mind overflowed with wonder. Like a blank canvas, everything she saw was fresh and new.

Li Yan chuckled softly. “This is nothing.”

“Remember, when we don’t have an absolute Realm advantage, we can’t just charge headfirst into a fight against stronger enemies. We need to use our heads.”

As he spoke, Li Yan tapped his temple.

Corpse Puppet Su Mo’s face lit up with excitement, her pink lips slightly parted, her expression radiating the pure, childlike adoration she held for him.
