Chapter 19: Hundred Blood Wither Poison Pill—Master, Have a Taste!

A dense mist shrouded Broken Sword Valley, its magical properties suppressing Divine Sense. Even a cultivator as powerful as Xuanwang found his Divine Sense completely obscured by the fog. Within the valley, everyone—from novice Blood Condensation Realm cultivators to the Blood Shifting Realm Old Daoist Xuanwang—was forced to rely solely on their physical eyes for perception.

Li Yan, however, squinted and attempted to observe his surroundings with his Mind’s Eye.

Detected: Multiple Divine Sense-blocking formations present. Host immune. Negative side effects converted to positive!

Mist Barrier Conversion: Your Mind’s Eye can now see farther and more keenly sense movements within the mist.

In that instant, Li Yan truly understood the meaning of boundless horizons. Within the dense mist of Broken Sword Valley, the range of his Mind’s Eye had multiplied exponentially. Previously, as a sixth-layer Blood Condensation Realm cultivator, his Mind’s Eye could only perceive objects within six hundred steps. Now, within the valley, that range had expanded tenfold, allowing him to clearly discern everything within a six-li radius!

Every detail within this vast area now appeared vividly before Li Yan: wandering corpses, man-eating formation traps, and treasures left behind by other cultivators.

Everything stood out with startling clarity. Wherever his Mind’s Eye swept, he grasped every detail perfectly. He could even see several corpses concealed within the enchanted mist, charging directly toward them.

It was only a matter of time before the lead disciples began to fall.

True to form, several rotting hands emerged from the dense mist, seizing one of the disciples. With a piercing scream, the unfortunate youth was dragged into the fog and torn to pieces.

While the others could only see the disciple disappear into the mist, Li Yan witnessed the entire gruesome process. The corpse possessed inhuman strength, tearing the man into shreds in an instant.

Moments later, another disciple triggered an ancient trap. A bizarre force ripped him apart, his body exploding like an overripe watermelon.

Bang!

Blood splattered across the faces of the surrounding disciples, sending shivers down their spines.

In less than ten breaths, three pathfinders had already perished.

The surviving disciples trembled, their lives being spent to clear the way for those behind.

But as they hesitated, Old Daoist Xuanwang pinched his fingers into a mystic seal, summoning a flying sword that hovered menacingly at the back of their heads.

“No one retreats!”

“Broken Sword Valley is littered with Magic Artifacts left behind by Ancient Cultivators. Whoever finds one shall become my personal disciple!”

“Listen well, you brats. If any of you dare to turn back, don’t blame this old man for abandoning all master-disciple loyalty.”

The squint-eyed Daoist let out a series of dry, rasping cackles.

In the world of Immortal Cultivation, what exactly are disciples for?

Watch closely—this is exactly what they’re for!

It’s said that a master starves to death while his disciples thrive. In this world where everyone seeks eternal life, who would waste their precious energy on apprentices?

Disciples are mere expendable tools, oxen and horses for Xuanwang’s schemes.

Yet, Xuanwang’s glib words had stirred a chill in the hearts of the disciples at the front.

If they could find just one Magic Artifact left behind by an Ancient Immortal Cultivator, they might survive!

Retreat meant certain death, while advancing offered a slim chance of survival.

The pathfinding disciples, their hearts pounding, had no choice but to press onward.

But could the mirage Xuanwang had painted truly nourish them?

Before an incense stick could burn, the pathfinding disciples ahead fell one by one. Some were devoured by rotting corpses, others inadvertently triggered lethal Formations, their lives extinguished in Broken Sword Valley.

As the last of the ten scouts perished, Xuanwang began calling out names again.

“You—Mingfeng, Mingchi, Mingzhu, Mingyan…”

Li Yan found himself among the second batch of pathfinders.

Though his face remained impassive, Li Yan’s heart surged with excitement.

While Broken Sword Valley was a labyrinth of forbidden zones and obscuring mists to the others, he saw it all as clearly as if he had X-ray vision. Within a six-li radius, every detail stood revealed!

Even Old Daoist Xuanwang couldn’t penetrate this fog.

His opportunity had arrived!

Not far ahead, Li Yan spotted a corpse concealed within the mist.

It was the corpse of an Ancient Cultivator, undoubtedly possessing valuable treasures!

To the right, a sword was planted in the mud, its extraordinary quality immediately apparent.

Hidden within the mist, invisible to others, lay countless Magic Artifacts left behind by past cultivators.

If Broken Sword Valley could be likened to an ancient tomb, then it had also become the final resting place of many tomb robbers.

Like Xuanwang, numerous cultivators had come to Broken Sword Valley seeking Immortal Fate, only to meet their end here.

What others perceived as a perilous forbidden zone, Li Yan saw as familiar as his own home.

He needed to seize the opportunity to slip into the mist the moment the Old Daoist’s vigilance faltered, thereby escaping Xuanwang’s control.

However, rash action was unwise. The Old Daoist’s flying sword hovered menacingly behind him.

Any attempt to flee would result in instant execution by the blade.

Li Yan meticulously assessed his surroundings, searching for a chance to break free from the Old Daoist’s surveillance, at least to create some distance.

He needed something to divert the Old Daoist’s attention first…

Like…

Lost in the mist, Li Yan pretended to wander aimlessly ahead, the Old Daoist’s sword hovering above his head.

Suddenly, Li Yan “accidentally” stumbled upon a corpse.

As if possessed by a seasoned actor, Li Yan excitedly shouted, “Master! I’ve found a mummified corpse!”

He began rummaging through the mummy’s belongings, pulling out several bottles of medicine pills.

Though it appeared unintentional, it was all part of Li Yan’s carefully calculated plan.

He opened one of the bottles and brought it to his nose for a sniff.

System detected: Host has inhaled the aura of a Hundred Blood Wither Poison Pill.

Li Yan knew nothing of medicine pills, but his Side Effect System could identify their effects.

The name “Hundred Blood Wither” alone made it clear this was no good—swallowing it would undoubtedly be lethal.

Seeing Li Yan recklessly sniff the unknown pill, Old Daoist Xuanwang scolded him, “Foolish disciple! This Broken Sword Valley is full of dangers! How can you carelessly sniff unfamiliar medicine pills? Some highly toxic pills can kill you instantly with just a single whiff!”

Faced with Xuanwang’s rebuke, Li Yan feigned ignorance, flashing an innocent smile.

“Master’s warning is wise, but this pill smells wonderfully fragrant. I’m sure this deceased senior left behind a powerful restorative elixir.”

The moment Old Ghost Xuanwang heard it might be an Immortal Pill, he greedily swallowed hard, his mouth watering.

“Disciple,” he said, “since it’s an Immortal Pill and you discovered it first, I’ll reward you with one. Swallow it and see what happens.”

The old ghost was too cunning to test the medicine himself. After all, these were relics from the Ancient Era, filled with strange and unfamiliar concoctions he’d never encountered before. If it turned out to be poison, his disciple would suffer the consequences. If it was a potent tonic, his disciple’s gain would be his own. As the saying goes, “like nourishes like.” These precious disciples were merely his human-shaped Immortal Herbs.

“Master, may I eat it now? Thank you for bestowing this pill upon me!” Li Yan didn’t hesitate. He poured out a single pill and swallowed it whole.

Side Effect System Alert: Host has consumed a High Grade Hundred Blood Wither Poison Pill with extremely potent side effects!

Effect Reversal: Host’s Blood Qi is Boiling for 12 hours!

Li Yan’s Blood Qi began to surge outward, his face contorting in a mixture of agony and ecstasy.

Seeing the dramatic surge in Li Yan’s Blood Qi, Old Daoist Xuanwang was ecstatic. “Disciple! Quick, bring me the rest of the pills!”
