Chapter 16: The Ebony Sword Seals the Martial Aunt!

Senior Brother Mingshan and Senior Sister Mingyue were sent flying by their Martial Aunt’s long hair.

They crashed like broken kites, spitting blood as they slammed into the Stone Workshop Hall’s outer wall, leaving two gaping holes. The intense pain knocked both siblings unconscious on the spot.

Li Yan now stood alone, facing the towering, nine-foot-tall Martial Aunt.

She slowly turned to face him, her entire face obscured by thick black hair. Muffled sobs emanated from within the tangled strands.

The nine-foot Martial Aunt drifted eerily toward Li Yan’s room. Upon closer inspection, it became clear she wasn’t floating at all. Instead, her long hair writhed on the ground, propelling her forward in a gliding motion.

“This is bad,” Li Yan muttered. He had never imagined his senior siblings would be defeated so swiftly. He had hoped Mingshan and Mingyue could at least draw the Martial Aunt’s attention, but now he had to face her alone.

The sobbing outside grew louder as countless strands of black hair snaked through the cracks in the door and windows, probing the interior. Li Yan glanced around frantically. The Martial Aunt’s hair was everywhere, sealing off every escape route.

The Evil-Suppressing Talismans within the room had burned to ashes, leaving only swirling embers.

Li Yan gripped the Ebony Sword tightly, his fingers forming the hand seals for the Burning Lamp Technique.

The mournful sobs of his Martial Aunt echoed through the room. Li Yan took a deep breath.

It’s here!

A mass of hair forced the wooden door open, unleashing a putrid wave of Death Yin Qi.

Li Yan braced against the gale-force wind, forced to retreat two steps. Beside him, Xin Zhi, the young girl, collapsed unconscious under the overwhelming aura of death.

At that moment, Li Yan truly stood alone.

“Burn!”

As Li Yan silently chanted the incantation, the Nine-Foot Martial Aunt outside the door erupted in flames.

But the disparity in their cultivation levels was glaring.

Li Yan was a sixth-layer Blood Condensation Realm cultivator, while his Martial Aunt had been a Blood Shifting Realm expert in life. Now transformed into a Ghost Object, she retained her former strength.

Though the Burning Lamp Technique engulfed her body, she stubbornly resisted the flames, relying on the Death Yin Qi shrouding her.

Li Yan tightened his grip on the hand seals, golden light illuminating his Golden Body Dharma Idol!

As the Martial Aunt drew closer, a smirk curled Li Yan’s lips.

“Martial Aunt, forgive me!”

He thrust the Ebony Sword forward!

Death Yin Ebony Sword.

Inversion Side Effect: While wielding the Ebony Sword, you can absorb the energy of living beings and resentful souls in your vicinity.

Before his eyes, the seemingly ordinary Ebony Sword transformed into an artifact of heaven-defying power.

The Ebony Sword, once a cursed blade that drained its wielder’s blood, had been transformed by its reversed effect into a magic artifact capable of siphoning energy from enemies.

A torrent of Death Yin Qi erupted from the Nine-Foot Martial Aunt, the dense black aura continuously pouring into the Ebony Sword.

The once-forsaken Ebony Sword, left to rot on the ground, now glowed with an ominous black radiance that shimmered with a violet hue.

Under the sword’s overwhelming suction, the Nine-Foot Martial Aunt emitted a piercing, mournful wail.

Visible to the naked eye, she was gradually drawn into the Ebony Sword until the moment of her complete sealing.

As the Martial Aunt was fully sealed within the Ebony Sword, the howling wind outside abruptly ceased, and an eerie calm descended.

Only then did Li Yan finally exhale a long sigh of relief.

He raised his hand in disbelief, gazing at the Ebony Sword in his palm.

A line of text materialized before him:

Nine-Foot Yin Immortal Ebony Sword

Low Ninth Grade → Upgraded to Mid Sixth Grade Magic Artifact

The Ebony Sword’s name had changed, reflecting the Martial Aunt’s presence within its blade and the terrifying otherworldly power it now contained.

Li Yan had never imagined that this universally despised, master-killing Ebony Sword, after its effects were reversed, would transform into a minor divine artifact capable of sealing malevolent entities.

Moreover, as he gripped the Ebony Sword, he could feel the Martial Aunt’s power coursing through its blade.

Clenching the sword tightly, he clearly sensed a warm current steadily flowing into his Inner Core, an endless stream of energy.

“Interesting,” Li Yan murmured. “So my Martial Aunt has become my personal power bank?”

The more he studied the Ebony Sword, the more astonishing its properties became. With his Martial Aunt sealed within, the blade could unleash terrifying power. Gently stroking the sword’s surface, Li Yan felt it vibrating.

He whispered to the blade, “Martial Aunt, rest peacefully here. One day, I will avenge you.”

Only then did the wildly trembling Ebony Sword gradually calm down.

Fascinating!

Just as Li Yan was examining the transformed Ebony Sword, two figures appeared ahead. Eldest Senior Brother Mingshan and Second Senior Sister Mingyue limped toward him, their Daoist robes stained crimson with blood, their expressions wary and uneasy.

“Strange,” Mingshan said. “Where did Martial Aunt go?”

“Junior Brother, are you alright?” Mingyue asked.

Mingshan and Mingyue had been blasted away earlier, unconscious for quite some time. Now, upon returning, they found no trace of their Martial Aunt, fueling their concern.

“Junior Brother, what exactly happened while we were unconscious?” Mingshan asked.

Li Yan racked his brain for a plausible explanation, but their gazes quickly fell on the Ebony Sword in his hand.

“How can the Martial Aunt’s aura be sealed inside this Ebony Sword?” Eldest Senior Brother Mingshan exclaimed, stumbling back several steps in alarm, as if fearing she might burst forth from the blade.

Second Senior Sister Mingyue narrowed her eyes thoughtfully. “Junior Brother, did you seal the Martial Aunt inside?”

“Could it be… the Ebony Sword Master gave you isn’t an ordinary one?” Mingyue speculated, convinced that Li Yan’s sword must be exceptional to contain the Martial Aunt’s presence.

Jealousy flashed in Mingshan’s eyes. “Junior Brother, you have quite the knack! I’ve followed Master for nearly a decade, and he’s never bestowed such a treasure upon me.”

They had clearly misunderstood, believing this Ebony Sword to be anything but ordinary.

Li Yan hesitated, then decided silence was wiser than explanation. No matter what he said, they wouldn’t believe him anyway.

Seeing Mingshan’s jealousy, Mingyue cleared her throat. “Brother! If Junior Brother hadn’t possessed this Magic Artifact, we might both have perished here.”

“Y-yes, yes!” Mingshan stammered.

Eldest Senior Brother Mingshan’s expression instantly changed. Smiling, he clapped Li Yan on the shoulder. “Junior Brother, Master was right about you! You’re the most promising disciple this year. Don’t let him down after all the effort he’s put into nurturing you.”

Li Yan humbly clasped his hands in respect. “It was only thanks to the support from Eldest Senior Brother and Second Senior Sister that I managed to subdue the Ghost Object.”

“Hah! You little rascal, still being so modest? How about letting me… borrow that Ebony Sword for a bit?”

As Mingshan spoke, his hand began to creep toward the Ebony Sword.

Suddenly, Second Senior Sister Mingyue slapped his hand away. “Brother! Master gave this Magic Artifact to Junior Brother. Don’t try to take what’s not yours!”

Mingyue frowned, signaling Mingshan with her eyes until he reluctantly withdrew his hand.

“Ah, I just can’t control myself. I always want to touch treasures when I see them.”

Li Yan maintained a polite smile, but inwardly remained vigilant.

He hadn’t expected that immediately after sealing the Nine-Foot Martial Aunt, the Ebony Sword would advance to Mid Sixth Grade, making it an object of envy for his Eldest Senior Brother.
