Chapter 15: The Nine-Foot Martial Aunt
Just as Li Yan finished extinguishing the three Three-Headed Bound Skins, voices echoed from the rooftop above—a man and a woman.
“Damn it! Martial Aunt’s back!”
“Why now…?”
Li Yan pricked up his ears, overhearing the hushed conversation. Activating his Mind’s Eye, he detected two figures with considerable cultivation bases.
The next moment, the pair leaped from the roof and burst into Li Yan’s room without a word. The man slammed the door shut while the woman raised her waist token.
Personal Disciple – Mingyue
“Senior Sister Mingyue?” Li Yan recognized them. They were likely his Eldest Senior Brother Mingshan and Second Senior Sister Mingyue.
Both were personal disciples of Old Daoist Xuanwang, second only to the Old Daoist himself in status within the Tranquil Void Temple.
Observing their abrupt entry and battle-ready stances, Li Yan cupped his hands in a respectful bow. “Senior Brother Mingshan, Senior Sister Mingyue, who is this Martial Aunt you mentioned?”
“Shh!” Mingshan silenced him, cold sweat beading on his forehead as he stared out the window.
Li Yan felt the air thicken, their breathing growing heavy. The room fell so silent he could hear their individual breaths.
A tall, gaunt shadow materialized outside the door and windows.
Judging by its silhouette, the figure stood over three meters tall.
Its jet-black hair cascaded to its waist, giving it the appearance of a grotesquely stretched and distorted humanoid.
Is this the Martial Aunt Senior Brother was talking about?
Martial Aunt…
Using his Mind’s Eye, Li Yan sensed an intense aura of Death Yin Qi outside.
Death Yin Power was similar to Yin energy, but it differed from what Li Yan had read in Immortal Cultivation novels. In this world, cultivators didn’t shun Death Yin Power.
Li Yan had no time to ponder such profound matters now, not with the Martial Aunt prowling right outside the door.
Through the shadows, he could see her robes billowing and her slender, sharp nails scraping against the wall, emitting a piercing, grating sound.
Li Yan, Mingshan, Mingyue, and the others huddled inside the room, holding their breath and barely daring to move.
They watched as the Martial Aunt’s dark figure gradually faded into the distance.
Once she was gone, they all let out a collective sigh of relief.
Senior Brother Mingshan whispered, “Damn it! The Martial Aunt hasn’t been back in years. Why now?”
“And she showed up right after Master left. What a coincidence!”
The siblings continued their hushed discussion in front of Li Yan, who had only a vague understanding of the Martial Aunt’s existence.
“Eldest Senior Brother, Second Senior Sister, what exactly is this Martial Aunt?” Li Yan asked.
Mingshan explained, “It happened about five years ago. Master and the Martial Aunt stumbled upon an ancient Immortal Cultivator’s cave mansion in the Mountain of No Return.”
“Only Master survived,” Senior Brother Mingshan explained. “Martial Aunt was trapped inside the Cave Mansion.”
“Then one night, we saw a nine-foot-tall woman in white robes wandering outside the mountain gate. Someone recognized her as Martial Aunt.”
After hearing Senior Brother Mingshan’s explanation, Li Yan began to understand. This nine-foot Martial Aunt had likely returned with a lingering resentment.
Second Senior Sister Mingyue whispered, “As long as we don’t make any noise and avoid provoking her, she won’t attack us.”
“Once dawn arrives, we’ll be safe.”
Li Yan and the others gathered around the octagonal table in the Stone Workshop Hall, quietly waiting for the night to pass. But the long night was a torment. Strange and eerie sounds drifted from outside the Tranquil Void Temple, each moment an agony.
Under the moonlight streaming through the windows, they could see the silhouette of the nine-foot Martial Aunt pacing restlessly outside the Stone Workshop Hall.
Their only solace was that the four of them were intelligent. None would be foolish enough to make even the slightest sound and provoke the nine-foot Martial Aunt outside.
Just when they thought they would survive the night unscathed, a sudden gust of wind blew open the left window. With a creak, the window swung wildly in the wind, its wooden frame clattering against the wall.
Instantly, everyone in the room realized what this meant. Senior Brother and Senior Sister gripped their swords, their gazes fixed on the window.
Everyone held their breath, bracing for the horror to descend.
But after a long wait, the four only heard the window rattling, and the Nine-Foot Martial Aunt remained unseen.
Senior Brother Mingshan and Senior Sister Mingyue exchanged a glance. “Let’s go close that window.”
They stood up and cautiously approached the window, still seeing no sign of the Nine-Foot Martial Aunt.
The Eldest Senior Brother and Second Senior Sister carefully pulled the window shut and latched it.
Just as they breathed a sigh of relief, countless strands of jet-black hair slithered through the window crack, binding their hands.
Their eyes widened in panic. “Damn it!”
Before the word could finish, the Eldest Senior Brother and Second Senior Sister were violently yanked out of the room.
Witnessing this, Li Yan’s first instinct was self-preservation. Better a dead fellow Daoist than a dead Poor Daoist. Why risk his neck to save them?
But then he wondered, what difference was there between him and an ostrich burying its head in the sand? If the Nine-Foot Martial Aunt claimed the senior siblings, he’d be next.
Steel resolve hardening his gaze, Li Yan gripped the Ebony Sword and moved to the window.
Li Yan glanced outside.
The Nine-Foot Martial Aunt’s long, raven-black hair floated eerily in the air, ensnaring the Eldest Senior Brother and Second Senior Sister. They hung upside down, suspended by the dark strands.
Rushing out recklessly would only lead to the same fate.
First, save them!
Li Yan formed a hand seal with one hand and silently chanted, “By blood, ignite!”
Whoosh!
Flames erupted from the Nine-Foot Martial Aunt’s body, kindled by the Burning Lamp Technique!
The sudden, searing pain made her groan in agony. Seizing the moment of her distraction, Senior Brother Mingshan and Senior Sister Mingyue twisted their bodies.
With a surge of effort, they drew their swords and slashed through the strands of black hair, freeing themselves.
But the burning Martial Aunt was now enraged. Ignoring Senior Brother Mingshan and Senior Sister Mingyue, she charged toward Li Yan’s room.
Engulfed in golden flames, she unleashed an inhuman shriek and slammed violently against the door and windows.
Fortunately, the room was plastered with Evil-Suppressing Talismans, preventing her immediate entry.
For now…
Li Yan could clearly see the intense Death Yin Qi flooding into the room, igniting all the yellow talismans. In less than half the time it takes an incense stick to burn, every Evil-Suppressing Talisman in the room would likely be reduced to ashes.
Without the talismans’ protective barrier, the Nine-Foot Martial Aunt could burst into the room at any moment.
“Junior Brother, don’t panic! I’ll help you!” Mingshan grabbed a handful of yellow talismans from his waist and scattered them into the air.
Mingyue unleashed a flurry of needles, each trailing a crimson thread. Mentally manipulating the threads, she wove a Demon-Subduing Net.
Both knew that once the Nine-Foot Martial Aunt fixed her gaze on them, escape would be impossible.
“Junior Brother! We must combine our efforts to restrain Martial Aunt. Only by holding out until dawn can we avoid certain death!”
If they failed to unite, the Nine-Foot Martial Aunt could easily pick them off one by one in mere moments.
However, Mingshan and Mingyue’s counterattacks only further enraged the Martial Aunt. With a violent shake of her long black hair, she sent Senior Brother and Senior Sister flying backward.
Suddenly, Li Yan found himself alone, facing the Nine-Foot Martial Aunt.
