Demon Consort Runs into the Beijing Crown Prince - Chapter 8
The two exchanged WeChat contacts, each pretending not to notice as they casually glanced at the other’s profile picture.
Lu Hanzhang’s profile picture was a classic astronomical photograph taken through a telescope. Deep within the starry expanse, a white star as bright as the sun was hurtling toward its demise. The gases it spewed outward in its final moments of life formed a swirling halo of blue and pink, resembling an eye embedded in the cosmos.
Perhaps even as he busied himself with the affairs of the Lu Clan, a romantic vision of the stars and the sea still lingered in his heart.
Chu Muyun’s profile picture was a simple ink painting on rice paper. A small white rabbit nestled against a tiger whose forehead bore the character “王” (King). The lively strokes captured the scene with endearing charm.
He had drawn it himself.
“Boss, now that we’re in the same company, it’s perfectly normal to have matching profile pictures, right?” Chu Muyun grinned. “Should I change mine, or will you?”
Three minutes later, both profile pictures had been updated.
Lu Hanzhang now sported a majestic tiger, while Chu Muyun’s profile featured a sweetly smiling white rabbit.
The lonely, dying sun had transformed into the flesh-and-blood king of beasts.
Seizing Lu Hanzhang’s phone while he wasn’t looking, Chu Muyun changed his profile picture and said with a serious expression, “You can’t even tell it’s a couple’s profile picture, really! Don’t you think animal avatars are more approachable? Your subordinates will definitely love it.”
Lu Hanzhang, “…Whatever makes you happy.”
What he really meant was, “This just gives my subordinates more gossip material.”
Even after Lu Hanzhang left, he didn’t change his profile picture back.
Later that night, Chu Muyun spent the entire evening packing.
He had lived in this rented apartment for five years, accumulating a mishmash of belongings. He threw some things away, packed others into boxes, and sorted the rest into storage containers.
The Crown Prince, his pet rabbit, circled around his feet for a while before disappearing. Chu Muyun searched for him and found him asleep in a large storage box filled with bedsheets and blankets, which he hadn’t yet closed.
Chu Muyun picked up the rabbit and kissed him, “Why are you hiding in the luggage? Of course I’m taking you with me tomorrow! You’re my precious little son.”
The big bunny chirped softly and nuzzled against him.
The next morning, Lu Hanzhang didn’t arrive, but the moving company Chu Muyun had hired did.
The movers carried Chu Muyun’s belongings into the truck. Holding the Crown Prince, he took one last look at the dilapidated rental apartment where he had lived for five years.
From today onward, he would embrace a new life.
An hour later, Chu Muyun arrived at his new home, following the moving truck.
Located in an upscale residential complex, the apartment offered convenient transportation, excellent property management, and lush landscaping. He was thoroughly satisfied.
The door was equipped with a smart lock. Lu Hanzhang had sent him the password via WeChat, and Chu Muyun immediately registered his fingerprint upon arrival.
After the movers had unloaded everything into the living room and left, Chu Muyun first set up the rabbit cage—a clean and cozy two-story villa complete with toys, a rabbit hutch, and a litter box. A small plaque hung from the peaked roof: “Eastern Palace.”
Instead of unpacking immediately, Chu Muyun wandered through his new home.
The bright, 300-square-meter single-story apartment featured modern decor and high-end appliances. Though spotless, it didn’t feel like an uninhabited new space; there were subtle signs of previous occupancy.
The bathroom drawers contained neatly organized toothpaste and an electric toothbrush. The walk-in closet held a few impeccably tailored garments in black, white, and gray, along with several unopened boxes of brand-new underwear.
Chu Muyun felt like he understood something.
Unworn underwear…
Even if it had been worn, he wouldn’t mind. In his previous life, after the Great King’s death, he had sewn a cloth doll from the Great King’s personal clothing, stuffing a lock of the Great King’s hair into the cotton filling. He had slept with that doll every night.
He called Lu Hanzhang, who answered after only two rings.
“I just finished moving,” Chu Muyun said. “The place is great. Is this your house?”
Lu Hanzhang’s clear, calm voice came through the phone. “Sometimes when I’m out late, I stay here a few nights. You can live here now—it’ll be your employee dormitory. I won’t bother you.”
This won’t do at all!
Chu Muyun quickly said, “No, no, no! I’d love for you to bother me. By the way—” He deliberately drew out the word, “Can I use those boxes of underwear in the closet?”
There was a moment of silence on the other end. Lu Hanzhang seemed to choke slightly before replying, “Go ahead. They’re unopened.”
“Great!” Chu Muyun grinned secretly, knowing Lu Hanzhang couldn’t see him.
It was a little sad that the Great King didn’t remember his past life, but there was also something delightful about it. He was so innocent now, teasing him was simply too much fun!
The next moment, Lu Hanzhang added, “Though it might be a bit too big for you.”
This time, Chu Muyun choked.
W-what? So what if yours is big? I already know. I’ve touched it countless times in our past life. Since Lu Hanzhang’s face is identical to the Great King’s, his… ahem… size should be the same, too.
Fortunately, he recovered quickly and blurted out, “Really that big? I don’t believe it unless you let me see for myself.”
“…I have to go. I’ll call you later.” The breathing on the other end paused for two seconds before Lu Hanzhang hung up almost awkwardly.
Hehe
Chu Muyun was dying of laughter.
In high spirits, he put down his phone and began tidying up his apartment, putting everything in its proper place.
After packing yesterday and unpacking today, he was a little tired. After dinner, he took a shower and went to bed early.
The bed was large and the mattress was excellent. Chu Muyun rolled around on the freshly made sheets, already plotting mischief.
He picked up his phone and typed rapidly, sending a message to the contact pinned at the top of his WeChat: [The bed feels so empty. Like something’s missing.]
Silence hung heavy on the other end.
Chu Muyun continued typing: [I’m thinking of ordering a custom-made hunk body pillow from Taobao. It should look exactly like you.]
Still no reply.
[Can you send me a photo? Preferably one where you’re wearing less.]
No response.
[Oh, by the way, are you 180cm tall? I need to confirm the size with the shop.]
Finally, a reply: [188cm.]
Chu Muyun grinned.
Heh, men really do care about their height. Lu Hanzhang was definitely over 180cm, judging by sight. He’d baited him perfectly.
He typed again: [Photo? Send it, send it! *Rubbing hands eagerly.jpg*]
[No photos.]
[Waaah, if I can’t get a body pillow, I’ll have to sleep with the real thing. Will you come keep me company?]
Chu Muyun stared at his phone. After a long pause, the chat bubble finally showed “Typing…” Then, a message popped up next to Lu Hanzhang’s tiger profile picture:
[Blocked.]
He immediately replied: [No way, really blocked? *Crying bunny.jpg*]
A red exclamation mark appeared next to the message, and it failed to send.
Lu Hanzhang had actually blocked him.
Chu Muyun hissed.
The Great King’s skin is so thin these days.
Waaah.
Am I going to be the first employee to get blocked by the CEO for flirting on my first day?
Lu Hanzhang set down his phone.
Leaning back in the air-conditioned Rolls-Royce, he tugged at his tie as if feeling overheated, unbuttoned the top button of his shirt, and let out a soft breath.
His mind was a mess, and his heart was racing slightly.
He wasn’t used to dealing with people like Chu Muyun. Such individuals would never have obtained his contact information in the first place.
He had an important business engagement later that couldn’t afford any mistakes. He needed to clear his mind and calm himself first.
He’d unblock Chu Muyun after it was over.
