Upon returning home, Grandma Pei started making plans.

Although she hadn’t met Zhang Yumei, she had a new idea. Instead of reconciling her son with Zhang Yumei, why not match her grandson with Zhang Ruojin?

That way, their families would still be connected by marriage. Then, if they needed help from the Zhang family, it would be perfectly justified.

With this thought in mind, Grandma Pei immediately called her eldest son. “Come home early today. I have something important to discuss.”

That evening, Father Pei returned home, full of curiosity, “Mom, what’s so urgent?”

“I went to see Zhang Yumei,” Grandma Pei said bluntly.

Father Pei’s expression darkened. “Why are you bringing her up again?”

“I met her daughter,” Grandma Pei continued. “She’s a really good girl, about the same age as Song Song.”

Father Pei immediately understood her intentions. “Mom, you’re not thinking of—”

“I’m doing this for our family,” Grandma Pei sighed. “Look at you, recently divorced, and you’re barely home. And Song Song, he’s not young anymore. It’s time for him to settle down.”

“Mom,” Father Pei’s voice turned cold, “Feelings can’t be forced. You were like this back then, too!”

“I did it for your own good!” Grandma Pei interrupted. “Besides, your younger brother is still in prison. If the Zhang family can help…”

“Enough!” Father Pei stood up. “You’re trying to use marriage as a transaction?”

“What transaction?” Grandma Pei huffed. “It’s perfectly normal for young people to date.”

Father Pei refused to continue the conversation. “Just don’t meddle in Song Song’s affairs.”

Seeing his firm stance, Grandma Pei didn’t push further but she had already made up her mind.

A few days later, Zhang Ruojin arrived as scheduled, bringing expensive tea and health supplements.

“These are from Y Country,” she said gently as she poured Grandma Pei a cup of tea.

Father Pei happened to return from work to pick up some documents. When he saw Zhang Ruojin, he paused slightly.

She glanced up, a fleeting glimmer flashing in her eyes. With a faint smile, she stood up and greeted, “Hello, Uncle Pei.”

Father Pei nodded and went upstairs to his study. Meanwhile, Zhang Ruojin continued attending to Grandma Pei with great care. “You should drink this while it’s hot.”

Grandma Pei, feeling pampered, kept praising how thoughtful she was.

When she casually mentioned her knee pain, Zhang Ruojin brought over an imported heating pad the next day.

She knelt beside Grandma Pei, carefully demonstrating its use. “This adjusts the temperature, that sets the timer, and it shuts off automatically after use. It’s very safe.”

She even installed a motion-sensing light by the sofa, saying it would help Grandma Pei navigate at night.

This thoughtfulness touched Grandma Pei deeply. She became even more convinced that Zhang Ruojin was the perfect granddaughter-in-law.

She frequently brought up the Zhang family to her son, raving about how considerate and well-mannered Zhang Ruojin was.

Father Pei just shook his head. “Mom, don’t get any ideas about Song Song.”

Grandma Pei wasn’t deterred. In her view, a good match like this, one that was both well-suited and caring, shouldn’t be missed.

Singapore in July is hot and humid, leaving a sticky, uncomfortable feeling.

Inside the model unit of the “Senior Living Apartments,” the cool air-conditioning offered some relief to Pei Song. He listened attentively as the sales representative introduced the smart home system, occasionally jotting down key points in his notebook.

“The highlight of this system is the seamless integration of data,” the representative explained, displaying the interface on a large screen. “From home monitoring to medical alerts and emergency assistance, it forms a complete loop.”

“This is impressive,” Zhou Feng remarked, glancing at Pei Song, who was taking notes. “It aligns closely with our project’s direction.”

Pei Song nodded. “Yes, especially their direct integration of medical resources, which greatly enhances emergency response efficiency.”

“How difficult do you think it would be to implement this on our end?” Zhou Feng asked.

“Technically, it’s feasible,” Pei Song flipped through his notes. “The main challenge is coordinating with local medical institutions. But if we follow their model, we could avoid a lot of obstacles.”

After the morning tour, the group headed to the hotel restaurant for lunch, where conversation naturally drifted back to the project.

“Pei Song,” Zhou Feng reminded him, “Once we return, compile the inspection report quickly. Headquarters is paying close attention to this project.”

“Yes, Boss Zhou, I’ll get it done as soon as possible,” Pei Song replied.

A signature Singaporean dish, steamed grouper, was brought to the table. Zhou Feng noticed it was placed far from Pei Song and casually moved the plate toward him. “Try this. It’s one of Singapore’s most famous dishes.”

Pei Song politely thanked him but didn’t touch it. This subtle concern made him slightly uncomfortable, though he couldn’t pinpoint why.

The afternoon schedule was even tighter.

Pei Song meticulously examined every detail alongside the project manager, from the functional zoning of the wellness center to the layout of leisure areas, taking extensive notes.

“This rehabilitation area is well-designed,” the project manager explained. “Each piece of equipment is equipped with an intelligent monitoring system.”

Pei Song studied the smart terminal on the wall, contemplating how these advanced concepts could be applied to his project.

“Manager Pei is very professional,” one of the inspectors remarked.

“Yes, and at such a young age, he’s already handling such a major responsibility,” another chimed in. “No wonder Boss Zhou values him so highly.”

Pei Song ignored the comments.

All afternoon, he moved tirelessly between different facilities, ensuring no important details were overlooked.

The next morning, the team visited a medical care center. The advanced equipment and well-structured processes left everyone impressed.

“This remote consultation system is excellent,” Zhou Feng noted, standing beside Pei Song. “It should be one of our key reference points.”

Pei Song nodded, his gaze fixed on the monitoring screen. “Yes, especially this data analysis module, it’s great for detecting anomalies early.”

“You have a sharp eye,” Zhou Feng smiled. “Your meticulous approach is rare.”

Pei Song glanced at him, offering a polite smile before resuming his notes. This distant yet courteous demeanor made a flicker of disappointment flash in Zhou Feng’s eyes.

During lunch, Zhou Feng deliberately chose a window seat.

“This place serves great laksa,” he recommended. “Want to try some?”

“Thank you, President Zhou,” Pei Song replied with a slight nod, but his focus remained on his notebook, continuing to transcribe the morning’s notes.

“We’re visiting the smart nursing home this afternoon,” Zhou Feng said. “I’ll go with you.”

“There’s no need, President Zhou,” Pei Song replied coolly. “If you have other plans, you can go ahead. I can handle it myself.”

Zhou Feng wanted to say something but, seeing Pei Song’s polite yet distant expression, ultimately stayed silent.
