- Come on, What Kind of CEO Chases His Roommate Back to the Country?
- Chapter 53 - Done for, Done for
Early the next morning, Pei Song was jolted awake by a pounding headache from his hangover.
He opened his eyes and found himself lying in Shi Yancheng’s arms, the other man’s arm still draped around his waist.
Memories rushed in like a tidal wave, and Pei Song sobered up instantly.
He looked at the scattered marks on his own body, then at Shi Yancheng’s peaceful sleeping face. His entire face burned like it was on fire.
Pei Song tiptoed into the bathroom, staring at the marks in the mirror. The longer he looked, the redder his face became.
“Done for, done for…”
The shirt he wore last night had been carelessly tossed onto the floor, completely unwearable now.
His whole body felt hot. He hastily grabbed a fresh set of clothes from the wardrobe, fumbling to button them up.
Everything from last night replayed in his mind like a movie, making him wish he could crawl into a hole and disappear.
He quickly pulled himself together and escaped the room before Shi Yancheng woke up. Rushing to the office, Pei Song nearly arrived late.
He straightened his wrinkled collar, trying to make himself look normal.
“Pei Song, you okay?” Zhou Feng asked at the meeting room entrance, looking concerned. “You drank a lot last night.”
“I’m fine, Mr. Zhou,” Pei Song muttered, keeping his head down, avoiding eye contact.
Inside the meeting room, colleagues were whispering about the newly appointed Asia-Pacific CEO.
“I heard he’s really young, and apparently went to the same school as Manager Pei,” Li Ming turned to Pei Song. “Do you know him?”
Before Pei Song could answer, the meeting room door swung open.
A tall figure strode in, 190 cm tall, clad in a tailored dark gray suit, exuding an undeniable aura of authority. He stood at the front, his sharp gaze sweeping across the room with an imposing presence.
“Let me introduce myself,” his gaze lingered on Pei Song for a second longer than the others. “Shi Yancheng.”
Liu Yan stiffened under that gaze, why did this guy look so familiar?
Then it hit him. This was the same man who had coldly warned him twice before when he had tried to put Pei Song down. He never expected that the man who had intimidated him was actually their new CEO!
Liu Yan turned pale.
Zhou Feng’s expression shifted slightly as well. He glanced at Shi Yancheng, then at Pei Song, a look of understanding flashing in his eyes. Pei Song, on the other hand, felt his mind go completely blank.
Buzzed, his whole body went numb.
Shi Yancheng’s gaze fell on him once more. “I look forward to working with you all.”
The events of last night flashed through Pei Song’s mind again, making him want to disappear on the spot.
Shi Yancheng was the new president? And last night he had… he had…
Pei Song bit his lip, not daring to look at the man. He could feel Shi Yancheng’s gaze on him, making him even more flustered.
Annoyance bubbled up, this man had known all along that he was taking over, yet he had never said a word. Damn alcohol. Damn Shi Yancheng. Was messing with me so fun? He didn’t hear a single word of the meeting.
After the meeting, Pei Song bolted into the restroom and locked the door behind him.
He turned on the faucet, splashing cold water on his burning face, but it couldn’t wash away his frustration and shame. The mirror reflected his flushed face, and the faint marks at his collar stung his eyes.
The memories of last night played like a slideshow in his mind, each frame making him want to crawl into a hole.
Knock, knock. A firm knock sounded at the door.
“Pei Song.” Shi Yancheng’s voice was calm as ever. “Come out, we need to talk.”
“Go away!” Pei Song buried his face in his hands. “I don’t want to see you.”
A brief silence.
“How long do you plan to hide?”
“You lied to me for so long already, what’s a little longer?” Pei Song gritted his teeth. “Mr. President must be busy, why waste time here?”
“I didn’t lie,” Shi Yancheng’s voice lowered slightly. “The timing just wasn’t right to tell you.”
“Oh, timing?” Pei Song let out a cold laugh. “But last night’s timing was just right, huh?”
Shi Yancheng was silent for a moment before saying, “I admit I lost control last night, but this has nothing to do with my position. You know that.”
“I don’t know anything,” Pei Song’s voice trembled slightly. “All I know is that you deliberately kept me in the dark and made me look like a fool.”
“I’ve never treated you as a fool,” Shi Yancheng’s tone turned serious. “Everything I did to guide and support you was sincere.”
Voices echoed outside the restroom, colleagues walking past.
“I need time,” Pei Song took a deep breath, lowering his voice. “Let me be alone for a while.”
A nearly inaudible sigh came from the other side of the door.
“Alright,” Shi Yancheng paused. “I’ll wait for you in the parking lot after work.”
The footsteps faded, and Pei Song clenched his fist, slamming it against the wall. This man was always like this, making decisions for him, not even giving him space to be angry.
By the time work ended, the office lights were gradually turning off, one by one, leaving only the small glow from Pei Song’s desk. He stared blankly at his computer screen, shifting his mouse, fidgeting with his pen, anything to delay leaving.
Outside, the sky was already dark. The glass reflected his slightly exhausted face. Pei Song glanced at the time, past nine. The office was empty except for a janitor pushing a cleaning cart. She glanced at him curiously. “Manager Pei, you’re still here this late?”
He forced a smile. “Just finishing up some files.”
When her footsteps disappeared down the corridor, he slowly stood up, meticulously tidying his desk, dragging out every minute, as if giving himself an excuse.
“By now, the parking lot should be empty, right?”
The elevator descended to the basement. The moment the cold metal doors slid open, Pei Song’s heart sank. That Bentley was still there, parked in the same spot, its metallic surface gleaming under the dim lights.
He could almost picture Shi Yancheng’s expression, calm and composed, yet undeniably authoritative. Pei Song bit his lip, deliberately taking a long detour, pretending not to see the car. Just as he rounded a pillar, he heard the car door open, followed by those familiar, steady footsteps.
“Get in.”
Pei Song quickened his pace, but his heart raced uncontrollably. The footsteps closed in. A strong grip pulled him toward the car.
“Stop being stubborn.”
“I’m not!” Pei Song dodged, his voice tinged with defiance. “I just want to walk home. Is that not allowed?”
“It’s late,” Shi Yancheng’s voice was firm. “How long do you plan to walk?”
“None of your business, Mr. President.” Pei Song stiffened.
“Do I have to carry you?” Shi Yancheng’s voice dropped, carrying a hint of danger.
