- Come on, What Kind of CEO Chases His Roommate Back to the Country?
- Chapter 43 - Apartment Hunting
The first property Shi Yancheng viewed was Golden Vienna.
In the sales center, the realtor, Wang, enthusiastically introduced, “This is our latest French-style luxury residence. Every piece of exterior material is imported Carrara marble from Italy…”
Standing inside the model unit, Shi Yancheng frowned as he took in the extravagant gold décor and baroque-style carvings. The study even had an entire wall covered in gilded wallpaper, shimmering under the lights.
“Too gaudy.” He shook his head and turned to leave.
The Riverside One property had a good location next to a park, but as soon as he stepped into the model unit, he noticed issues.
“The open living-dining design is spacious, but the functional zoning isn’t clear enough,” he analyzed while holding the floor plan. “The study is too small, can’t even fit a proper desk.”
With this layout, when Pei Song cooked at night, the smell of oil and smoke would spread everywhere.
The realtor looked awkward. “Mr. Shi, you’re right, but we do have other layouts.”
“No need.” He cut her off and walked straight to the elevator.
The amenities at the World Trade Center were tempting. A clubhouse, swimming pool, library, and gym, all included. But when the realtor mentioned the property management fees, he shook his head again.
“With fees this high, the developer is probably stockpiling funds for future commercial expansion,” he analyzed calmly. “This means the residential area will become increasingly commercialized, affecting both privacy and security for residents.”
The Arc de Triomphe Residences interested him the most. The entire community was smart-managed, everything from access control to home systems could be operated via phone.
But once inside, he found a fatal flaw.
“The south-facing side is completely blocked by an office building,” he noted while standing by the window, looking at the glass curtain wall less than twenty meters away. “In winter, sunlight won’t reach inside at all.”
Pei Song loved cooking, and a dark kitchen would definitely dampen his mood. Shi Yancheng’s meticulous standards left the realtor in awe.
Every time he viewed a property, he not only studied the floor plan but also measured the orientation and lighting in person. He even visited at different times of the day to observe the sunlight exposure.
Then, at Heguangli in the southern part of the city, his eyes finally lit up. It was a low-density development with a sleek modern architectural style, exactly his aesthetic. The floor plan was well-structured, with great ventilation. The master bedroom and study had floor-to-ceiling windows with spectacular views.
What pleased him most was the study’s placement. Spacious, with a private balcony facing the city skyline.
He could already picture Pei Song sitting there, studying, with the golden hues of sunset casting a warm glow on his focused profile.
The location was also convenient, just a ten-minute drive from SNK headquarters. A subway station was right outside the community, making Pei Song’s commute effortless. Several coffee shops lined the ground floor, perfect for his frequent coffee cravings.
Back at the hotel, Shi Yancheng found himself smiling as he watched Pei Song seriously writing reports on the sofa.
When the Future Hotel project entered the system integration phase, an unexpected issue disrupted everything.
“There’s a data integration error!” Li Ming reported at the Monday meeting. “The supplier’s smart service system isn’t compatible with our hotel management system, and none of the test data can be imported.”
Zhou Feng frowned. “What happened? Didn’t we already pass the technical evaluation?”
“They might have recently updated their smart control module.” Li Ming glanced at Liu Yan. “At this rate, we’ll need at least two more weeks to fix it.”
Before Pei Song could speak, Liu Yan interjected, “This kind of core tech issue is tricky. Should we consider switching suppliers?”
“No.” Zhou Feng rejected the idea immediately. “This supplier has the best smart solution in the industry. Changing now would mean scrapping the entire Future Hotel project and starting over.”
He turned to Pei Song. “You handle this. I need a solution in three days.”
After the meeting, Pei Song gathered the technical team, but the problem was even more complicated than expected.
“The data formats don’t match at all,” Li Ming pointed at the screen. “And every time we import, it triggers a system error.”
Pei Song checked the log files and found that the key issue was in data preprocessing. He sent the team home to rest while he stayed back to troubleshoot.
That night, he worked in the office non-stop, debugging the code. The next morning, the front desk delivered a neatly packed meal box.
“Mr. Shi requested the hotel to deliver this,” the receptionist said. “He specifically asked to make sure you received it.” Inside were his favorite cinnamon rolls and freshly brewed coffee, along with a note, ‘Eat on time.’
At noon, Zhou Feng happened to see the delivery person at the front desk and noticed Pei Song’s name on the order.
“I’ll bring it in for you,” he said, picking up the box. He glanced at the sender’s name, “Mr. Shi.”
“Who sent this?” Zhou Feng casually asked as he placed it on Pei Song’s desk.
“Just… a friend,” Pei Song replied. “He knows I’ve been working late.”
For three consecutive days, Shi Yancheng had the hotel deliver meals on time. Sometimes Western-style light meals, sometimes Chinese stir-fries, but always paired with Pei Song’s favorite drinks.
On the third afternoon, Pei Song finally pinpointed the root cause of the issue in the code. His brows furrowed. By carefully analyzing the log history and modification records, he noticed some deliberately altered interface parameters.
Someone had intentionally sabotaged the data integration. From the timestamps and user activity logs, Li Ming was the prime suspect. Pei Song didn’t expose him immediately. Instead, he calmly pointed at the screen.
“Look here,” he told Li Ming. “The issue is in the data type definitions. Their system uses UTC timestamps, while ours is in local time, causing synchronization errors.”
Li Ming hesitated. “That simple?” His voice carried a hint of guilt.
“Not just that,” Pei Song continued. “We also need to handle time zone conversion and daylight saving adjustments during preprocessing. Since every smart module from room control to AI concierge relies on time sync, this needs a unified solution.”
He pulled up his code. “I’ve already written a conversion function. Take a look, does this work?”
By framing it as a technical oversight rather than sabotage, he gave Li Ming an easy way out. Li Ming read through the code, his expression complicated.
Not only did the solution resolve the issue, but it also preemptively addressed potential global deployment problems. What made him feel even more guilty was that Pei Song had clearly noticed the tampered parameters yet chose not to expose him. Instead, he covered for him.
If Liu Yan hadn’t ordered Li Ming to interfere, Pei Song wouldn’t have had to work overtime for days.
“This… is really well-written.” Li Ming finally admitted, his voice tinged with remorse.
Just then, Liu Yan approached. “So? Problem solved?”
“Yes,” Li Ming replied. “Manager Pei found the key issue.”
Liu Yan’s face stiffened. “That fast?”
“Yeah,” Li Ming said, now with genuine respect. “And his solution is so thorough it even accounts for potential future deployment challenges worldwide.”
