- Come on, What Kind of CEO Chases His Roommate Back to the Country?
- Chapter 37 - See You Tomorrow
The tasting session lasted for two hours.
Before leaving, one of the judges patted Pei Song on the shoulder. “Looking forward to Jin Shangxuan’s next Michelin star.”
The news spread quickly, and the entire company was thrilled at the possibility.
“I never thought we’d have a shot at Michelin,” colleagues murmured excitedly in a meeting.
Liu Yan, however, sneered, “Who knows if it’s legit? These days, Michelin reviewers can sometimes be influenced by personal connections…”
“Liu Yan.” Zhou Feng suddenly spoke. “Are you questioning Michelin’s credibility or doubting our project team’s capability?”
Liu Yan immediately shut up.
That evening, Pei Song received a video call from Shi Yancheng.
“I heard there’s a surprise?” Shi Yancheng’s voice came through the phone.
“You already know?” Pei Song was a bit surprised.
“I’ve been keeping an eye on things,” Shi Yancheng said. “You did well with the Michelin review.”
Pei Song smiled. “It’s not a done deal yet.”
“The result isn’t the most important thing,” Shi Yancheng replied. “What matters is that you’ve proven yourself with your skills.”
“Oh, by the way…” He paused briefly. “I’ve almost wrapped things up on my end. I’ll be back tomorrow.”
“So soon?” Pei Song felt a spark of joy but kept his tone calm. “Did everything go smoothly?”
“Yeah.” Shi Yancheng’s voice carried a deeper meaning. “You’ll find out soon enough.”
After hanging up, Pei Song stared out at the night sky, anticipation filling his heart. This week, he had made a breakthrough not just in his project but also in finding his own direction.
The next afternoon, Pei Song hesitated for a long time before knocking on Zhou Feng’s office door.
“Boss Zhou, I’d like to leave work an hour early…” Pei Song said a little awkwardly.
“Something up?” Zhou Feng looked up from his documents.
“I’m picking someone up from the airport.”
Zhou Feng nodded. “Alright. While you’re at it, take the company’s official stamp to Li Ming. He’s meeting a client outside and said it’s urgent.”
He glanced at his watch. “He should still be at a café.”
Pei Song hurried to the café with the stamp.
But Li Ming kept delaying, first saying he was on the way, then claiming he’d arrive any minute.
By the time Pei Song finally handed over the stamp, it was almost 5 PM.
He rushed to the airport, feeling frustrated as he looked at the arrival screen, his flight had already landed.
Luckily, as soon as he stepped into the terminal, he spotted Shi Yancheng walking out of the exit.
After a week apart, Shi Yancheng still carried his usual cold and refined aura. Despite the long flight, his clothes and hair were impeccable.
Behind him, two assistant-like figures pushed a luggage cart.
“Did you wait long?” Shi Yancheng asked as he approached.
Pei Song shook his head. “I just got here too. Got held up with something on the way…”
Instinctively, he reached for Shi Yancheng’s briefcase, but the man subtly avoided his touch.
“You guys head to the hotel first,” Shi Yancheng instructed his assistants before turning to Pei Song. “I’ll take your car.”
In the car, Pei Song couldn’t help but steal glances at him. Shi Yancheng leaned back in his seat, exhaustion finally showing on his face from the long flight. Thinking he must be too tired for dinner, Pei Song decided to drive him straight to the hotel.
“Why do you keep staring at me?” Shi Yancheng chuckled softly.
Pei Song, caught in the act, wasn’t embarrassed. “Just rest for a bit. I’ll wake you when we arrive.”
Shi Yancheng let out a soft “Mm.”
When they reached the hotel entrance, Pei Song was about to say goodbye, but Shi Yancheng spoke first.
“Come up for a bit? I brought gifts for you and your parents.”
“It’s already late…”
“Just for a while.” Shi Yancheng had already opened the car door. “I won’t take too much of your time.”
Inside the suite, Shi Yancheng retrieved several elegant gift boxes from his luggage.
A set of luxury kitchen knives, with Pei Song’s initials engraved on the handles. A limited-edition fountain pen for his father. A handcrafted silk scarf for his mother.
“These are too expensive…” Pei Song looked at the gifts, feeling overwhelmed.
“As long as you like them.” Shi Yancheng handed him a cup of coffee. “Try it, it’s made with beans from your favorite café.”
They sat by the floor-to-ceiling windows, sipping coffee and chatting. Before they knew it, night had completely fallen.
“I should head back now,” Pei Song glanced at the time.
“Alright.” Shi Yancheng walked him to the parking lot. “See you tomorrow.”
Just two simple words, yet Pei Song found himself eagerly awaiting the sunrise.
The next day, an explosive scandal shook the business world. The procurement manager of the Pei family’s company was accused of embezzling tens of millions.
But the real shock came from an unexpected twist. His illegitimate son had been registered under his brother’s name, making the Pei family chairman an unwitting “stand-in father.”
News spread like wildfire, and the media swarmed in.
Those who had long been watching the Pei family’s drama unfold were now gleefully enjoying the show.
“I always knew something was off with the Pei family. The eldest brother not only takes the fall for his younger brother but also raises his illegitimate son? What a pushover.”
That night, the Pei family’s mansion was brightly lit as Pei Song supported his mother, forced to witness a ridiculous spectacle.
Bang!
The front door burst open as his aunt barged in with his two uncles.
“Well, well, Pei Cheng!” She pointed at Pei Song’s uncle, fuming. “So you had a son out there this whole time? And here I was, thinking you were a decent man!”
“Let me explain…” The uncle shrank into a corner, his face pale.
“Explain what?” One of the uncles slammed the coffee table. “Not only do you have an illegitimate son, but now there’s an embezzlement scandal too! Tens of millions, how do you plan to clean up this mess?”
“Exactly!” The other uncle sneered. “The inflated invoices, the fake orders, every piece of evidence is solid. If you don’t give us an explanation, we won’t let this slide!”
Hearing the commotion, Grandma Pei hurried downstairs. “It’s late, let’s talk this through properly…”
“Talk properly?” His aunt laughed hysterically. “The whole city is talking about how I married a heartless scumbag! Having an illegitimate son is bad enough, but embezzling public funds? You’ve disgraced our entire family!”
“One hundred million!” The older uncle got straight to the point. “That’s our compensation demand. Not a cent less, or we report everything to the authorities!”
“One hundred million…” Grandma Pei’s legs went weak. “This… this…” She suddenly grabbed Pei Song’s father’s hand. “Son, you have to save your brother!”
