Early the next morning, Pei Song and Shi Yancheng rushed to the hospital.

The doctor had just finished his rounds. “The patient’s vitals are stabilizing, but he still requires further observation.”

Father Pei also looked a little more energetic. Seeing the two of them walk in, he smiled and said, “See? I’m fine.”

“You still need proper rest and care,” Pei Song replied.

“Assistant Zhao, go home and get some rest,” Pei Song turned to Zhao Tezhu. “I’ll stay here and keep watch.”

Zhao Tezhu, who had been on duty all night, had bloodshot eyes but insisted, “It’s fine, I can stay a while longer.”

“You should go back. I don’t have anything urgent today anyway.”

Zhao Tezhu explained, “I’ll leave after the shift handover with the new caregiver.”

Pei Song nodded, then turned to Shi Yancheng. “Don’t you have a meeting today? You should head back for that.”

“Alright,” Shi Yancheng said, “Call me if anything happens.”

As soon as he left, the door to the ward swung open.

Grandma Pei barged in with a group of relatives trailing behind.

“I was wondering why none of you answered your phones. So you’ve been hiding in the hospital,” Grandma Pei’s voice was sharp and grating.

Second Aunt and Third Aunt followed closely behind, along with a few cousins who stood there whispering and pointing.

“Mom, what are you doing here?” Father Pei said helplessly.

“My son is in the hospital, how could I not come?” Grandma Pei sat down beside the bed. “Honestly, at your age, still drinking like that? You’re only making trouble for yourself.”

“Mom, it was for the company—” Father Pei tried to explain.

“What company? Your health matters more!” Second Aunt cut in. “If you ask me, you should sell the company while you still can.”

“Exactly,” Third Aunt chimed in. “The market’s so bad now, why bother struggling?”

Pei Song frowned and was about to speak when Zhao Tezhu stepped forward. “Everyone, the doctor said the chairman needs complete rest. Please keep quiet.”

“And who are you to speak here?” Grandma Pei snapped.

Pei Song spoke coldly, “Assistant Zhao is right. My father needs rest. All of you should leave.”

“How can you talk to us like that?” Grandma Pei banged the table, furious. “We’re here to visit your father, and you want to chase us away?”

“There’s a proper way to visit a patient,” Pei Song said calmly but firmly. “The doctor will be here for rounds soon. Please wait outside.”

“You—!” Grandma Pei started again.

Zhao Tezhu stepped in just in time. “The doctor is on the way. Let me show you all to the waiting room.” He shot Pei Song a look.

Pei Song understood and pressed the nurse call button.

A nurse quickly entered. “We need to check the patient’s blood pressure. Family members, please cooperate.”

With the nurse’s help, Zhao Tezhu finally managed to usher everyone out.

“Song Song…” Father Pei looked worriedly at his son.

“Dad, just rest.” Pei Song sat down beside him. “I’ll handle them.”

After leaving the ward, Pei Song went straight to the waiting room.

“Grandma, uncles, aunts,” he said directly, “what my father needs most right now is peace and quiet. If you truly care about him, please go home. When he’s feeling better, I’ll personally let you know.”

“Are you kicking us out?” Grandma Pei glared at him.

“I’m thinking of his health,” Pei Song said, his tone steady. “If you insist on staying and disturbing his rest, I’ll have no choice but to call security.”

Zhao Tezhu immediately pulled out his phone. “Shall I call security now?”

Seeing the calm but unyielding look in Pei Song’s eyes, Grandma Pei and the others finally left, muttering in frustration.

“Thank you for your help,” Pei Song said to Zhao Tezhu.

Zhao Tezhu shook his head. “It’s my duty. The chairman’s health comes first.”

Back in the ward, Father Pei was already asleep.

Looking at his father’s pale face, Pei Song felt relieved that he’d gotten rid of those troublesome relatives in time.

When the Spring Festival holiday ended, Pei Song returned to work.

Although Father Pei’s condition was steadily improving, Pei Song still felt uneasy and went straight to the hospital after work every day.

One morning, as soon as Pei Song entered his office, he noticed that his schedule had been rearranged.

Several important meetings originally set for the afternoon had been moved to the morning. Even video calls had been switched to online document coordination.

“What’s going on?” Pei Song frowned as he flipped through his calendar.

Just then, Shi Yancheng walked in. “I had your schedule adjusted,” he said, sitting down across from Pei Song. “From now on, all your important meetings will be in the morning. In the afternoons, you can focus on online tasks, so you can get to the hospital earlier in the evenings.”

Pei Song was stunned. “But we’re at a critical stage in the Phase Two project…”

“We can adjust the progress as needed,” Shi Yancheng interrupted gently. “But your father’s health can’t wait. Besides—” he paused, his gaze softening, “watching you run back and forth every day makes my heart ache.”

“Won’t this affect the other departments?” Pei Song still sounded worried.

Shi Yancheng chuckled. “Your boyfriend is the CEO. You think moving a few meetings is a problem?” He stood up and walked over to Pei Song. “Your top priority now is taking care of Uncle Pei and yourself. I’ll handle the project, and there’s an entire team to support you. Don’t worry.”

He reached out and gently ruffled Pei Song’s hair. “Don’t feel guilty. If anything comes up in the afternoon, just message me.”

As he watched Shi Yancheng walk away, Pei Song felt a lump in his throat.

These past days, Shi Yancheng had quietly supported him in every possible way, helping him find balance between work and caring for his father.

That evening at the hospital, Chief Physician Professor Li stopped Pei Song to explain the details of the condition. “Chairman Pei’s gastric mucosa is severely damaged, and this time there are also signs of mild liver dysfunction. If he doesn’t completely change his lifestyle, this will likely recur. The most important things are total abstinence from alcohol, no staying up late, and avoiding overwork.”

Pei Song listened carefully and asked, “Professor Li, my father… his work stress is very high. Could you prescribe some liver and stomach-protecting medication?”

“Medication alone won’t help,” Professor Li shook his head, his tone serious. “What matters most is adjusting his routine, maintaining a healthy diet, and getting enough rest. His CT scan shows signs of gastric wall atrophy. If this continues, I’m worried it could develop into something worse.”

Pei Song felt a heavy weight in his chest. He knew all too well the pressure his father was under. Though he couldn’t agree with many of his father’s choices, there was no denying that Father Pei had carried the entire burden of the family on his shoulders.
