The next day, neither of them felt like moving from the house.

Max lay stretched out on the balcony, lazily basking in the sun, his tail flicking now and then.

“How about seafood pasta today?” Pei Song called from the kitchen. “Shrimp with a tomato cream sauce.”

“I’ll help you chop the tomatoes,” Shi Yancheng volunteered.

Pei Song chuckled. “Last time you chopped tomatoes, they ended up squashed. Tell you what, you handle the pasta. When the water boils, add salt and olive oil. Nine minutes in the pot, and it’ll be done.”

Shi Yancheng nodded earnestly and set about preparing the noodles just as Pei Song instructed. Meanwhile, Pei Song started cleaning the shrimp, skillfully peeling and deveining them before dicing the tomatoes into small chunks.

“Is the water boiling yet?” Pei Song asked.

Shi Yancheng hurried over to check the pot. “It is. Time to add salt, right?”

“Mm-hmm. A spoonful of salt, a splash of olive oil, and then drop in the noodles.” Pei Song poured oil into a pan, ready to sauté the shrimp. Clumsily but carefully, Shi Yancheng followed the instructions, glancing over at Pei Song from time to time.

Pei Song gently seared the shrimp over low heat until they turned pink, then added the tomatoes to the pan, stirring them together.

As the tomatoes softened, their aroma blended with the shrimp’s sweetness, filling the kitchen with a mouthwatering scent.

“Are the noodles done?” Pei Song asked.

Shi Yancheng picked one up with chopsticks to test. “I think so.”

“Drain them and toss them into the sauce.” Pei Song added cream and a splash of cooking wine to the pan, deepening the fragrance. Working together, they mixed the pasta and sauce until perfectly coated, then sprinkled chopped parsley on top.

Shi Yancheng pulled a bottle of red wine from the cabinet and poured them each a glass.

Pei Song twirled a forkful of pasta and looked up. “By the way, my mom will be starting school in April. I’ve already booked my flight to M City. I plan to go a week early to help her get settled before coming back.”

Shi Yancheng set down his wine glass. “I’ll arrange the housing near the Art History department at M University. The area’s really nice.”

“Thank you.” Pei Song smiled and picked up a shrimp.

“Auntie’s working so hard these days,” Shi Yancheng swirled his wine thoughtfully. “I heard from the professor that her German’s improving fast, she’s even using German for all the video calls now.”

“Yeah.” Pei Song nodded. “She has weekly online classes with the professor. Actually, my mom’s pretty independent, she can handle most things herself. But since it’s her first time living abroad, I want to stay with her for a few days, just to be sure.”

“We can help her get familiar with the area that week. I’ve got plenty of friends there who can look after her too.”

“That’d be great.” Pei Song twirled the last bit of pasta onto his fork.

After dinner, as Pei Song was about to put away the unfinished wine, he noticed a strange look in Shi Yancheng’s eyes.

“What is it?” Pei Song turned to him.

“Song Song,” Shi Yancheng’s voice was low and a little hesitant, “I want to do something… but it might be a little outrageous.”

“What is it?” Pei Song’s heart skipped a beat at his serious tone.

Shi Yancheng stepped closer and gently took his hand. “Promise you won’t get mad first.”

“Tell me what it is first.” Pei Song grew even more nervous.

Shi Yancheng took a deep breath. “Remember that time at the hotel? When you spilled red wine on your shirt…”

Pei Song blinked. “Yeah… why are you bringing that up now?” He was just about to put the wine bottle away when Shi Yancheng suddenly scooped him up and set him down on the dining table.

“Wait, what are you doing?!” Pei Song panicked and tried to squirm away.

“Don’t be scared. I just want to see what it looks like when red wine soaks into your shirt…” Shi Yancheng gently pinned him down, his voice soft and coaxing.

“No way!” Pei Song finally realized what he meant, his face flushing bright red. “This is the dining table, how am I supposed to sit here again after this…?”

“It’s fine,” Shi Yancheng soothed him gently. “I just want to try…” One hand cradled the back of Pei Song’s neck while the other lifted the wine glass, bringing it to Pei Song’s lips. “Have a sip first?”

Pei Song hesitated, then parted his lips slightly. The dark red liquid slipped into his mouth, some of it spilling from the corners of his lips, leaving a faint, suggestive trail down his elegant chin. Shi Yancheng’s gaze darkened instantly. He leaned in and traced the spill with his tongue, his voice low and enticing. “Let me keep going… okay?”

“Leon, you can’t…” Pei Song’s voice trembled slightly.

“If you really don’t like it, I’ll stop,” Shi Yancheng whispered hotly against his ear.

Slowly, he tilted the glass, letting the wine soak into the white fabric of Pei Song’s shirt, the red seeping along the threads and spreading like a blooming stain.

“Shi Yancheng…” Pei Song bit his lip, torn between resistance and a flicker of anticipation.

Shi Yancheng lowered his head and pressed his lips to the wine-stained cloth, gently licking the damp patch through the fabric with warm, teasing movements.

Pei Song gripped the edge of the table tightly, his whole body trembling, but he no longer struggled. Shi Yancheng’s kisses trailed upward, lingering at his collarbone.

“Let me kiss you… please?” Shi Yancheng looked up at him, his eyes filled with longing.

Pei Song couldn’t speak, he only nodded faintly. Shi Yancheng immediately captured his lips in a deep, lingering kiss, full of tenderness and reassurance, drawing Pei Song deeper under his spell.

When the kiss finally ended, Shi Yancheng felt the trembling in Pei Song’s body and gently lifted him off the table. He sat on the sofa, cradling Pei Song across his lap, and used his fingertips to softly wipe the wine stain from the corner of his mouth.

“I’m sorry,” Shi Yancheng murmured guiltily. “Did I scare you?”

Pei Song shook his head, his face still tinged pink. He tried to sit up, but Shi Yancheng held him down. “Don’t move. Let me hold you a little longer.”

Shi Yancheng gazed down at him, a complex mix of emotions in his eyes. “I’m always afraid you’ll find me too much.”

Pei Song turned to look at him, surprised to see uncertainty in the usually confident man’s expression.

“You know,” Shi Yancheng said softly, “sometimes even I get scared of the thoughts I have about you.” He paused. “Every time I see you, I have to fight so hard to control myself. Sometimes the tiniest thing you do completely unravels me.”

“Like that day in the bathroom… when your shirt was soaked with water… I almost lost control.” He gave a bitter smile. “I was so afraid you’d hate me if you knew what was going through my head.”

Pei Song hadn’t expected Shi Yancheng to show such vulnerability. His heart softened as he reached out to gently pinch his cheek. “You overthink too much, you know that?”

Shi Yancheng took his hand. “I just don’t want to scare you away.”

“I’m not that fragile,” Pei Song propped himself up. “You being this cautious around me actually makes me feel more pressure.”

Shi Yancheng blinked. “You’re not upset?”

“It just caught me off guard, that’s all.” Pei Song leaned against his shoulder. “Besides, you usually say exactly what you want, why are you suddenly holding back on this?”
