Because it was a close-quarters fight, the system kept absorbing energy. Seeing that the man no longer carried killing intent, Ying Su deliberately let the system continue drawing in energy. She wanted to see what this seemingly useless system would look like after an upgrade!

On the other hand, sparring with this man had benefited her a lot. If she were to face a powerful enemy in the future, she would at least have some combat experience!

The man in black had already snatched the belt back from Ying Su’s hand and tied it once again around his waist. His eyes no longer looked frighteningly dark; there was more light in his pupils now. His pale, sickly face also carried a healthier hue, no longer so intimidating that one couldn’t look straight at him.

His dark eyes shifted slightly, his mind having returned. He secretly studied Ying Su there was actually someone in this mountain village who knew martial arts? Judging from her clothing, she seemed to be a resident at the foot of the mountain.

How could she know such ruthless killing moves? Even without internal energy, her movements were nimble. Fortunately, he had not lost his sanity completely today; otherwise, he might really have injured someone.

In Ying Su’s mind, the mechanical voice rang again, “Energy absorption complete. System upgrading…”

At that moment, two light footsteps came from the forest. Ying Su’s gaze shifted slightly, and her whole body instinctively entered a guarded state.

Two men dressed in black and wearing black bamboo hats soon appeared before them. They bypassed Ying Su and bowed respectfully to the man in black standing there. “Master.”

The man addressed as “Master” took a step closer to Ying Su. As he moved, the golden lotus embroidered on his dark robe flickered under the sunlight, dazzling to the eyes.

“Young lady, are you from the household at the foot of the mountain?”

Ying Su looked at him cautiously, quietly retreating two steps without answering.

Just earlier this man had attacked her without a word, and now he was asking so politely. Who knew what he was really thinking?

When the two black-clad subordinates clearly saw Ying Su’s face, a trace of surprise flashed in their eyes, and identical astonishment crossed their expressions. But because of the black hats, no one else noticed.

Ying Su made a move as if to leave. Seeing that the man in black did not stop her, she quickly left this place of trouble.

Watching her retreating back, the man in black said to the two behind him, “Are there residents at the foot of the mountain who know martial arts?”

One of the black-clad men respectfully replied, “There are hunters who go up the mountain to hunt. They know some martial skills.”

“How long have I been on the mountain?” The man in black asked. For some reason, he felt that this episode of mania had passed more quickly than usual.

“Master, you’ve been here for less than an hour.”

The man in black nodded. He still remembered when he had just gone up the mountain, he’d encountered a wild wolf. To vent the manic energy in his body, he’d chased it down, but unexpectedly ran into that strange woman.

Later, when he fought with her, the madness in his body grew less and less. After fewer than ten rounds, he actually regained his clarity, the frenzy in his body calming down, and he felt relaxed and comfortable all over.

Could it be that this time his illness was lighter, so he recovered more quickly?

He spoke again, “Has Shen Yi gone home?”

The black-clad man replied, “He has already returned.”

The man in black nodded. Something caught his eye where Ying Su had stood earlier, there was a jade token on the ground. He picked it up, looked at it, and a glint flashed in the depths of his eyes.

Looking toward the direction Ying Su had left, he rubbed the jade token engraved with the character Bai between his fingers. His long, narrow eyes narrowed slightly. So… she was someone of the Bai family?

When Ying Su returned home, she found a group of people standing at her door. As soon as they saw her, someone shouted, “Cuihua’s back!”

The crowd parted, and Ying Su saw Master Zhang standing at the doorway. She immediately understood. The bruises on Zhang Hairu’s face from the beating hadn’t faded yet. She hadn’t expected him to come so quickly. It seemed Young Master Bai’s name really carried weight, using another’s power to act domineering actually felt good!

Village Head Zhang stood beside Zhang Hairu, a smile plastered across his face. When he saw Ying Su approach, he said with a grin, “Cuihua, you’re back! Master Zhang came especially to see you!”

“What business does Master Zhang have with me?” Ying Su asked with a faint smile.

Zhang Hairu forced a smile and said politely, “I’ve come to deliver the money for the ink orchid and Jiangyan butterfly, Miss Shen! It was my fault last time, please don’t take it to heart!”

Zhang Hairu had already planned to come deliver the money to Ying Su, but who knew that overnight, he’d been beaten black and blue. When he woke up in the morning, he’d almost died of fright.

He didn’t know if it was Young Master Bai’s men or Wang Ba who had done it. All he knew was that Shen Cuihua was not someone to mess with.

And he couldn’t afford to offend Physician Wang either. The only way to settle things was to bring silver to Shen Cuihua and end it quickly.

When the onlooking villagers heard that he was here to give money again, they all pricked up their ears. In their hearts, they felt sour. Why did these wealthy people keep bringing silver to this crazy widow?

Hiding in the crowd, Li Yunyao was startled when she realized Master Zhang wasn’t here to cause trouble, but instead to pay for the orchids. Her thoughts spun quickly, and she hurried back home to tell Feng Qiufang and her husband.

Huzi had just come home from school. Seeing so many people gathered at his family’s door, his little face changed, and he rushed forward, squeezing through the crowd, afraid something had happened to Ying Su.

When he saw her standing safe and sound at the door, he finally breathed a sigh of relief. He squeezed up to her, grabbed her hand, and said, “Mommy, what’s going on?”

Seeing him sweating from running, Ying Su took out a handkerchief to wipe his forehead before replying, “It’s nothing. Didn’t Mommy sell a pot of orchids a couple of days ago? They’ve come to pay for them.”

She looked up at Zhang Hairu, the corners of her lips curling with a meaningful smile. “Master Zhang rarely takes the trouble to come here in person.”

Zhang Hairu kept smiling and said, “It’s no trouble, no trouble. Last time it was my fault, Miss Shen, please don’t take offense. It was all my mistake, all my fault…”

His attitude left the villagers utterly confused. Why was this wealthy Master Zhang treating the Shen widow so courteously? Earlier, Zhang Hairu’s servants had already shown off in front of the villagers, so everyone knew Master Zhang was a rich man from Shili Town. For such a man to be so polite to a village woman, it was truly strange!

The gossips had thought this lonely widow and her child had gotten into trouble, and that the lecherous, fat-eared Master Zhang was here to snatch her up as a concubine. But instead, what they saw was this widow being treated with great respect.

“Miss Shen, shall we go inside to talk? The price…” Zhang Hairu had already decided, he would let Shen Cuihua set the price, as long as the dispute could be smoothed over.
