Carefree Farmwife: Training the Husband, Raising the Bun - Chapter 132
Before she could think further, another dark figure broke into her vision. In an instant, the air around her turned deadly. Every hair on Ying Su’s body stood on end, and the dagger hidden in her sleeve was already drawn.
The aura radiating from this figure carried lethal danger. A violent energy tore through the air, as if it would rip everything apart. Ying Su instantly understood why that wild wolf had been fleeing in such a panic.
As the shadow drew closer, Ying Su’s pupils constricted sharply. A flicker of astonishment crossed her face before it returned to calm, though inside she was deeply shaken.
It was a person?
And not just any person, but a young man. He wore a jet-black robe, his tall frame outlined by the dark fabric embroidered with golden lotus patterns. With each step, the lotuses shimmered faintly, brazen yet eerie.
But the killing intent rolling off him was no different from that of a beast, like those savage creatures she had once encountered in the Amazon rainforest.
Ying Su crouched lower, trying to minimize her presence. A bad premonition gnawed at her, and her instincts were rarely wrong.
Just as the man was about to pass beneath her tree, a large, brightly colored spider crawled onto Ying Su’s body. One glance told her it was venomous. She froze, unwilling to move and risk drawing the man’s attention.
If it were her body from her past life, hardened by countless chemical toxins, she wouldn’t have feared the spider’s bite.
But here, without advanced medicine, even one bite could be fatal. Ying Su frowned slightly, staring as the spider climbed up her trouser leg, onto her shoulder, and then along her neck until it reached her chin, about to crawl onto her lips.
A faint sound of air being sliced rang out. Ying Su’s blade flashed, severing the spider in an instant. She caught the corpse in her other hand and carefully glanced down, only to meet a pair of upturned eyes staring straight at her.
That face was indescribable. His black hair was tied back with a milky-white jade hairpin, long strands cascading over his shoulders. His delicate features were strikingly aggressive, beautiful, breathtaking, and carrying an androgynous allure. His narrow phoenix eyes, long and upturned at the corners, gleamed with sinister charm.
His eyes were larger than most, the irises not brown but a deep, pure black, so dark they seemed to swallow light. They held no trace of emotion, like an icy abyss. Looking into them was like having one’s soul pulled in. His gaze was that of a beast, oppressive and unnerving.
In stark contrast to those eyes was his deathly pale face, almost translucent, exuding the pallor of sickness.
Thin crimson lips pressed tightly together, outlining a perfect shape. His expression was blank, but beneath it Ying Su could clearly sense bloodlust and cruelty.
Just standing there, he exuded a suffocating aura.
Ying Su leaned back slightly, her phoenix eyes locked unblinking on him, not daring to move.
He too stood motionless beneath the tree, gazing up at her as if he had forgotten the prey he’d been chasing.
For less than a minute, the tension held, until suddenly, the man’s aura shifted. The violent energy around him surged even more fiercely, his fine brows knitting together.
From the corner of her eye, Ying Su scanned the surroundings, quickly calculating an escape route in her mind.
Then came a wolf’s howl from the forest. Another followed, then another, until the cries overlapped from every direction, drawing closer. From the sound alone, there had to be dozens.
Wolves were pack animals, rarely acting alone. Being surrounded by so many was nearly inescapable.
Normally, wolves wouldn’t appear in broad daylight. Ying Su shot the man an angry glare. It must’ve been his earlier chase that provoked the pack. With the wolves almost upon them, she couldn’t hesitate. She rose lightly onto her toes and stood on the branch.
Like a monkey, she leapt and swung herself to another tree, her movements swift and nimble as she sought escape.
At that moment, a strange glint flickered in the man’s abyss-like eyes.
The wolves arrived. Over a dozen full-grown beasts launched themselves at him, baring sharp fangs, drooling as they closed in. They encircled him, snarling hungrily.
Ying Su had barely steadied herself when danger surged toward her. Her body reacted on instinct, she twisted aside just as a gust of energy slashed past her ear, cutting off a lock of her hair that drifted down slowly.
Her face darkened. Less than a meter away, on another branch, stood that same man who had vaulted into the tree in an instant and even attacked her mid-leap. Her eyes grew wary. “So he dares treat me like easy prey?” She cursed inwardly. “Grandma’s not some sick cat!”
Her palm clenched into a fist, striking out viciously, while her foot snapped toward his face.
A bloodthirsty gleam lit the man’s eyes. With ease, he deflected her punch, his palm carrying a fierce wind as it met her kick. Ying Su’s heart sank. Something was wrong. She tried to pull back, but it was too late. Instead, she diverted, slamming her foot into the tree trunk to spring away, ignoring the pain as she spun to widen the distance.
At the same time, the man’s palm struck a branch as thick as a wrist. It snapped instantly and crashed to the ground, striking a wolf and throwing the pack into a frenzy. The wolves clawed at the tree, glaring hungrily at the two locked in combat above.
Ying Su’s heart skipped. She could snap a branch too, but only through brute force. This man had done it with sheer internal energy!
She kicked off the tree and lunged again, her dark eyes fixed on his side. Her fist whistled toward his face, but hidden in her sleeve, her short blade flashed with cold steel.
The man’s reaction was lightning fast. Her blade missed, slicing only empty air, forcing her to strike again at his vitals.
At the same time, her foot pressed onto his branch. Her attacks were relentless, but in truth she was channeling half her strength into her footing.
With a burst of force, the branch cracked beneath them. She swiftly withdrew, retreating to her original perch. Her plan was simple, lure him down into the wolves.
But the man was quicker. As he fell, his hand shot out and caught her ankle before she could regain balance.
Ying Su’s dagger slashed without hesitation. Sharp, precise, ruthless, she carved a bloody line across his arm. Blood dripped down, the scent riling the wolves below into a frenzy.
