- Chapter 122 - Chaos in the Gambling Den
Huang Liu’s men were all brought over from the gang. Compared to them, Wang Ba’s followers were nothing but rabble, if they really clashed, it would be a slaughter. To them, this little woman was just standing there talking big, with no idea of the consequences.
Plenty of people felt indignant. With their very lives on the line, they didn’t care for politeness and immediately voiced their discontent to Ying Su.
“You make it sound so easy! Liu Huang has so many men, if we rush in, it’s just suicide!”
“What would a woman know? Don’t go bossing people around just because Big Brother favors you!”
“Big Brother, you can’t listen to her. Our lives aren’t a joke!”
All the ones speaking out against Ying Su were those greedy for life and afraid of death. Ying Su’s phoenix eyes swept over them, the curve of her lips carrying a trace of meaningful mockery.
“These past few days, Big Brother has kept hiding. Now Liu Huang’s come knocking right at the door, if we still don’t show our faces, wouldn’t that make us complete cowards?” Someone finally spoke up in support of her.
“But the men Liu Huang brought… that’s just sending our brothers to die!” More voices of dissent followed immediately.
Wang Ba suddenly stood up, sweeping his gaze over the brothers who had followed him for years. “A man should stand tall under heaven and earth. I, Wang Ba, won’t cower like a turtle hiding in its shell! I’m down on my luck today, but I’m grateful you brothers are still with me. Now I’ve decided, we’ll fight Liu Huang head-on. But if any of you want to leave, I won’t stop you!”
His words silenced the room. From downstairs came the loud crash of tables and chairs falling, mixed with cries of pain, it was clear Liu Huang’s men had already started attacking those below.
The men inside the room all went pale. One finally stepped forward a little, shame on his face, speaking in a low voice, “Boss, I’ve got children below and parents above… I… I can’t die here…”
Wang Ba looked at him deeply, then nodded. He turned to Wang Yuan. “Give him five taels of silver.” Looking back at the man, he said, “Go. Leave by the back door now.”
Seeing that Wang Ba didn’t punish him but even gave him silver, a few others who’d been wavering finally stepped forward one after another. In the end, more than ten men left including several of those who had just argued against Ying Su’s plan.
Wang Ba watched, then gestured for Wang Yuan to hand out the silver.
After pocketing the money, Liu Si, the one who had mocked Ying Su earlier, forced a grin at Wang Ba. “Boss, you’ve been generous. Then we’ll take our leave. But one last word of advice, liking a woman is fine, but don’t lose your head over it and treat her words as gospel! Haven’t you heard the saying? A real man knows when to bend and when to stand tall.”
The implication was obvious, Wang Ba was letting lust cloud his judgment because of Ying Su.
“Get out!” Wang Ba’s face turned ugly, eyes glaring at him with rage.
Liu Si flinched, nodding quickly, though a snort slipped from his nose as he turned to leave. In his heart, he sneered, “I was just trying to give you good advice. If you won’t listen, so be it. Taking orders from a woman? You really are walking straight to your death.”
With over ten men gone, the once-crowded room was now looser, leaving just over twenty men. With so many deserters, the ones left felt even less sure of themselves.
On the first floor of the gambling den, Liu Huang sat arrogantly on a chair, flanked by a dark mass of men holding clubs and broadswords, the whole scene brimming with gang-like menace.
The moment Wang Ba came downstairs, Liu Huang sneered coldly. “I heard this turtle was saved by a woman? Didn’t think you’d turn out to be such a coward, Wang Ba!”
Wang Ba’s face flushed with rage, though he forced down his temper. “Liu Huang, you know full well our gang rules forbid internal fighting. You storming into my turf like this, aren’t you afraid of breaking the rules?”
Liu Huang chuckled disdainfully, not caring in the least. He rose from his chair, walked to a gambling table, picked up a die, and tilted his chin in arrogance. “Gang rules? Ha! Rules are for the living. Once you’re dead, who decides what’s black or white but me?”
Wang Ba’s fists clenched, eyes burning with fury. Beside him, Wang Yuan cursed back in anger: “Spouting crap! You’re nothing but the Qinglong Hall Master’s dog, what’s there to strut about?”
But Liu Huang didn’t get angry, instead, he smirked shamelessly. “And you’re not dogs of the Heiwutang Hall Master? A dog only has a future if it serves the right master. You lot chose wrong, so when you die, you won’t even be worth a copper coin!”
“True enough. If you die here today, you really won’t be worth anything.”
A cool, low female voice rang out.
Liu Huang’s eyes narrowed with sudden understanding. “So it was you. I suspected as much! Well then, old grudges and new ones, we’ll settle them all today!”
Ying Su’s lips curved in a smile. Before anyone could react, she moved.
Liu Huang had always guarded against her, knowing her skill. The instant she struck, he quickly ducked behind one of his men.
The two sides clashed instantly.
Ying Su grabbed the man shielding Liu Huang. He swung a fist at her face, but she slipped back, driving her foot into his stomach. At the same time, her hand lashed out like lightning, locking tight around his throat. A gust of killing wind rushed from behind, she seemed to have eyes in the back of her head, twisting as she shoved the man forward.
Liu Huang’s broadsword hacked down mercilessly, cleaving into the man’s body. Blood sprayed everywhere. Ying Su smiled faintly, saving her the effort. She released her grip, the body collapsing limply to the floor, lifeless.
Liu Huang’s face drained of color, though the broadsword still shook in his hands. Retreating step by step, he shouted at his men, “Get her! Kill that bitch first!”
Several blades glinted coldly as they slashed toward Ying Su.
From the second floor, Shen Changyun watched with his heart in his throat. He didn’t dare make a sound for fear of distracting her, but every muscle in his body was taut with dread.
The flashing steel cast harsh light across Ying Su’s face, highlighting her mocking, careless smile. Her phoenix eyes narrowed, her wrist flicked, suddenly, cold light erupted!
Agonizing pain shot through the wrists of the men attacking her. With a clang, their broadswords clattered to the ground.
Ying Su grinned wickedly, withdrawing the dagger she’d casually taken from Wang Ba’s room. In a blur, she slashed across their throats.
Scarlet sprayed. The men only felt a chill at their necks before everything went dark. Their bodies crashed to the ground, lifeless, sending a shockwave of fear through everyone nearby.
Paired with Ying Su’s calm smile, the sight was chilling. To kill so swiftly, without hesitation, it froze men to their core.
Liu Huang’s face was already deathly pale. Even with his men surrounding him, dread hollowed him out. Among the entire gang, not even the hall masters were so lethal, so fast. For the first time, Liu Huang saw his own ending, his throat cut, just like those men.
