- Chapter 112 - Teaching the Thugs a Lesson
Shen Changyun stood there dumbfounded, frozen mid-motion as if still about to lunge at the thug.
Ying Su tossed the medicine bundle in her hand toward him. “Catch!”
Changyun quickly reached out and caught the bundle against his chest.
Ying Su pushed off the ground with her toes, springing up to step against the alley wall and using the momentum to leap high into the air. She came crashing down with a fierce kick at the thug. The thug, already stunned with fear, threw his hands up to block, but he couldn’t withstand Ying Su’s strike. She slammed him to the ground with one blow.
As he tried to get up, Ying Su was already in front of him. Her foot came down hard on his wrist, crack! The thug let out a shrill scream, crying out, “Auntie, spare me! Please, let me go! I was wrong, I was wrong…”
Ying Su’s lips curled into a cold smile, which quickly vanished. She turned her head to the still-stunned Shen Changyun. “Come here.”
Changyun snapped back to his senses and obediently walked over. He blurted out, “Second Sister, you… when did you learn martial arts?”
“How did he hit you just now? Return it exactly the same.” Ying Su’s face was icy as she spoke.
Changyun wiped the blood dripping from his nose, shoved the medicine bundle back into Ying Su’s hands, rolled up his sleeves, spat into his palms, and then smacked the thug hard across the face. As he hit him, he snarled, “That’s for hitting me! And for stomping my eggs! Today, I’ll let you taste what it’s like to get slapped!”
“Wait, wait… you can’t hit me! I… I… do you know who I follow? If you let us go now, we’ll let this slide. But if you keep going, my big brother won’t forgive you!” the thug stammered in terror. He had thought the pretty little lady would be an easy target, never imagining she was like a demon of death.
“Ptui!” Shen Changyun spat on him fiercely. “So it’s fine for you to bully me, but I can’t fight back?!” He barked, swinging his fists again and pounding the thug mercilessly.
Though Changyun looked thin and weak, he was a farm boy who had done plenty of hard work, and he wasn’t lacking in strength. Now that the thug couldn’t even fight back, all he could do was howl while taking the beating.
Changyun had suffered too much humiliation, and now all of his pent-up anger came pouring out. He beat the thug until his face swelled up like a pig’s head.
Ying Su simply stood by quietly, watching. Only after Changyun had vented enough did she finally speak again. “Who’s your big brother?”
The thug, hearing her question, suddenly seemed to regain his courage, as though remembering someone powerful. His expression shifted to one of bravado. “My big brother is the boss of Shili Town. You’ve messed with us today, so just wait for disaster! From now on, if we see you again in Shili Town…”
The other thug chimed in quickly, “Don’t you even know who we follow? Da Lu of Shili Town isn’t someone you can afford to cross! Be smart, carry us to the clinic, leave some silver behind!”
Shen Changyun, hearing them speak so confidently, grew a little scared. “Second Sister, let’s… let’s just go?”
Ying Su gave a faint smile, squatted down to meet the thug’s gaze at eye level, and her lips curved in a playful, dangerous grin. “So your big brother is Da Lu?”
The thug nodded rapidly, his swollen face twisting into a smug look. “Now you’re scared? Too late! You’ve offended us, so if you want peace, leave the money behind!” His eyes raked over Ying Su lewdly as he added, “And tonight, if you serve us brothers properly, maybe we’ll consider letting you off.”
Ying Su’s smile deepened, though a cold aura spread from her.
Shen Changyun was so enraged he kicked the thug again. “Dream on! You disgusting toad, I’ll kill you!”
Seeing him so fiercely protecting her, Ying Su’s heart warmed. Calmly, she said to the thugs, “Good. Tell Lu Da this, Shen Cuihua is waiting for him at the Weixuan Shop.”
With that, Ying Su stood up and pulled Changyun away.
The two thugs, battered and swollen, looked at each other in shock. One rubbed his ear. “Did I hear that right? She said to find her at the Weixuan Shop? Her family even runs a shop?”
“That’s right! Damn it, this time we won’t just let that little lady off, we’ll make her pay heavy, maybe even get that shop into our hands!” The other spat, struggling to his feet.
Meanwhile, Ying Su brought Changyun back to the clinic, had the doctor treat and bandage his injuries, and then took him to a clothing shop.
Looking at the fine clothes, Changyun shook his head. “Second Sister, I already have clothes. I’ll change when we get home. No need to buy.”
Ying Su picked out a set and tossed it to him. “Put it on.”
Changyun hugged the clothes but refused to move. The shop assistant quickly said, “Our clothes are very well made, young master. You’ll look wonderful in them.”
Changyun glanced down at the brand-new garments in his arms, a flicker of longing in his eyes, but soon shoved them back into the assistant’s hands, insisting, “Second Sister, I really don’t need them.”
“Then what will you tell Father and Mother when you go home covered in filth?” Ying Su said lightly.
Still reluctant, Changyun was pushed into the fitting room by Ying Su.
When he came out, the shop assistant’s eyes lit up and he said with a smile, “Young lady, you have an excellent eye! The young master looks absolutely splendid in this outfit!”
Changyun’s face flushed red, and he looked quite embarrassed.
Ying Su nodded with satisfaction. The Shen family’s foundation wasn’t bad at all. Even though Mother Shen now looked frail and sickly, she must have been beautiful when young. Changyun had inherited Father Shen’s peach-blossom eyes and high nose bridge. Now, dressed in a light-blue robe, he looked much cleaner and more spirited.
After paying, Ying Su also had the assistant prepare two sets of clothes for Father Shen and Mother Shen. Watching from the side, Changyun’s eyes grew faintly red.
Leaving the clothing shop, Ying Su took him around the market again, buying some daily necessities and food. Changyun trailed behind her, muttering nonstop, “Sis, why are you buying so much stuff? We don’t lack anything at home. Don’t waste money on this.”
But Ying Su didn’t miss a single thing they needed. Since it was already noon, and Father Shen and Mother Shen were waiting for them to eat, she didn’t linger in town. She hired an ox cart to haul everything back to Xiling Village.
“Second Sister, can I ask you something? Don’t get angry.” Changyun sat on the ox cart, looking at Ying Su.
Ying Su nodded, her clear eyes turning toward him.
