Bringing My Rival Back to Life (Accidentally) - Chapter 40
“And then?”
“And then, of course, we were together!” When Wu Jiu, who had returned to the future, was boasting to Zhu Xiao, he added some dramatic flair, “I just said three words, and you agreed to be with me.”
“Tsk,” Wu Jiu said, “What a bargain for my younger self ten years ago!”
…
The truth was a bit different from what Wu Jiu described. The situation at that time wasn’t as cool and heroic as he made it out to be.
Zhu Xiao said, “I just kissed you.”
Wu Jiu nodded blankly, “Ah.”
Zhu Xiao continued, “So, you don’t have to chase me anymore. I accept you.”
Wu Jiu was still processing this: “Ah?”
“Today is our anniversary,” Zhu Xiao took out his phone and glanced at the time, “It’s now 17:36:42. Remember this moment; from this second on, you’re my boyfriend.”
After a long while, Wu Jiu finally shouted in a mix of shock and joy, “Ah!”
…
Returning to the present from ten years later, Wu Jiu felt a sense of loss. He thought for a moment, then decided to confess to Zhu Xiao right away. He quickly tidied himself up and ran to the entrance of Zhu Xiao’s dormitory.
He knocked on the door solemnly.
The door opened quickly, and Zhu Xiao’s face appeared.
Strangely, Zhu Xiao didn’t immediately close the door or tell him to leave. Instead, he said curiously, “You’re here so early today?”
But Wu Jiu couldn’t worry about that anymore; he had to tell Zhu Xiao everything he wanted to say right now.
“Zhu Xiao, do you know?” Wu Jiu said excitedly, “We’re going to get married in ten years!”
Zhu Xiao: “……”
How familiar this scene was.
“Although you might not believe me, I inexplicably traveled to the future a while ago, and guess what I saw?”
Zhu Xiao knew the answer, but he didn’t need to respond because Wu Jiu would blurt it out in the next second.
He guessed correctly, and the next moment Wu Jiu couldn’t help but shout:
“—We got married in ten years!”
This was still in the dormitory hallway, and his volume was a bit too loud, drawing a lot of attention. Zhu Xiao quickly covered his mouth, “Don’t shout so loud.”
Wu Jiu nodded, and only then did Zhu Xiao let him go.
After gaining his freedom, Wu Jiu took a couple of deep breaths, then asked curiously, “Zhu Xiao, why are you so calm?”
It was as if Zhu Xiao had known all along that they would get married.
“I know, we’ll get married,” Zhu Xiao said, “Let’s go now.”
This was all a bit off-script for Wu Jiu, who asked in confusion, “Where to?”
“To class.”
“Me and you?” Wu Jiu couldn’t focus on Zhu Xiao’s reaction anymore; he was taken aback, “You mean, we’re going to class together?”
“Yes.”
Still not grasping the situation, Wu Jiu followed Zhu Xiao into the classroom in a daze.
Zhu Xiao sat down in his seat and looked up to see Wu Jiu still hesitating at the door, seemingly unsure where to sit.
Zhu Xiao pointed to the empty seat next to him, “Here.”
Wu Jiu sat down, both puzzled and delighted. He was actually sitting next to Zhu Xiao, attending class together…
What had happened during his time in the future?
But that wasn’t the most exciting part. After class, Zhu Xiao went to the cafeteria with him.
He and Zhu Xiao sat face-to-face for a meal, just like a quiet afternoon in the future.
Going to the cafeteria together was one thing, but after dinner, Zhu Xiao actually took him to the campus lovers’ spot—walking around the track.
Walking among the couples hand in hand, Wu Jiu felt secretly pleased but also a bit confused.
—What did Zhu Xiao mean by this?
For the entire day, he had been with Zhu Xiao, and Zhu Xiao hadn’t said the word “leave” once.
This would be normal in the future, but now… they weren’t married yet.
In the evening, Wu Jiu and Zhu Xiao returned to the dormitory building.
He was about to head back when Zhu Xiao grabbed him back.
Zhu Xiao looked at him with a somewhat complicated expression. Wu Jiu was bewildered and asked, “What’s wrong?”
“It’s been a whole day, and you still haven’t realized it?” Zhu Xiao frowned, wondering if this time travel had side effects that affected the brain.
Wu Jiu asked, “What?”
Zhu Xiao took two steps closer, took his hand, and interlaced their fingers.
Wu Jiu’s speech became halting: “Zhu Xiao, you’re holding my hand?”
Not only did Zhu Xiao hold his hand, but he also grabbed his collar, pulled him closer, and kissed the corner of his lips.
Wu Jiu had been stunned by the series of surprises today. He felt like he had won the lottery multiple times in a row and couldn’t react quickly enough: “You kissed me?”
“Why?” Wu Jiu was puzzled, then he said in alarm, “Did I get a terminal illness and don’t have much time left?”
That shouldn’t be the case; he was the tough King of Hell—what illness could defeat him?
“……”
“Because we’re together now.”
This statement was quite a lot to take in. Wu Jiu’s eyes widened, and it took him a while to process it.
“Zhu Xiao, you said we’re together!”
“……Yes.”
Wu Jiu blurted out, “There’s such a good thing… when?”
“Yesterday.”
Yesterday!
Wu Jiu looked at him in shock.
“Zhu Xiao, we really are together?” Wu Jiu cautiously confirmed again.
Zhu Xiao replied once more, “Yes.”
A few seconds later, Wu Jiu suddenly realized, and his smile stretched from ear to ear.
“Goodness, Zhu Xiao,” Wu Jiu grasped his hand tightly and shouted excitedly, “We’re together!”
Zhu Xiao’s eardrums were almost shattered by his shout. If he kept shouting like that, the roof might be blown off.
However, he still answered Wu Jiu, “Yes.”
He squeezed Wu Jiu’s hand and said to him, “Alright, I’m heading back. Remember to come tomorrow.”
Wu Jiu was still in a state of excitement, nodding vigorously like a chick pecking at rice, “You go ahead.”
Then he walked back to his dormitory, moving in a somewhat awkward manner, and on the way, he secretly pinched himself three times—he was worried that he wasn’t fully awake, and one pinch might not be enough to determine if this was a dream.
He pinched hard, and the three pinches hurt so much that he grimaced, but he ended up laughing.
—It was real; he was truly together with Zhu Xiao!
Back in the dormitory, Zhu Xiao received another message.
Wu Jiu: [Zhu Xiao, we’re together!!!]
Zhu Xiao smiled and replied, [Yeah, we’re together.]
