Chapter 10: New Identity (Part 2)
***
“Don’t move!”
The black-haired girl’s travel bag had already dropped from her left hand, and her right hand, previously behind her back, instantly pointed forward — it was also a gun. Her left hand quickly supported her gun-holding right hand, her expression deadly serious.
“Hehe, it’s just a replica toy, very realistic, isn’t it?”
The young man pointed his gun upward, and with a crisp “pop,” a water bullet hit the ceiling.
Lighting a cigarette and sitting back in his chair, crossing his legs, the young man continued to brazenly look up and down at Xia Yan’s body curves with interest.
Xia Yan kept her eyes fixed on him as she slowly lowered her gun, her expression gradually relaxing: “Your actions just now were dangerous. Weren’t you afraid I’d shoot directly?”
“The people, oh no, vampires who are referred to me, aren’t they all afraid of death and at their wit’s end? Isn’t it normal to hesitate when facing the only way out?”
The young man carelessly blew smoke rings.
Xia Yan also smiled slightly, neither agreeing nor disagreeing.
“Mr. Zhong, I need your help.”
After a moment, Xia Yan put away her gun, took a small step backward, and gave him a slight bow, then pulled out the business card Huang Gu had given her from her jeans pocket.
“Isn’t Huang Gu in D City? How do you know each other? I still don’t know this little sister’s surname.”
The young man tossed his barely-smoked cigarette into the ashtray, smiling mischievously.
“That’s not important, is it?” Xia Yan pulled over a chair from the side and sat down opposite Zhong Jing, “My… my sister and I need new identities.”
“Hmm, Huang Gu already gave me a heads up. Since the other person isn’t here, you can fill out both forms.”
Saying this, Zhong Jing pulled two forms from his drawer and turned on a new computer.
Looking at the seemingly official application forms before her, Xia Yan was stunned.
“Our company is a legitimate high-end service institution, professional, trustworthy, and ensures client confidentiality.” Zhong Jing grinned, his hands flying quickly over the keyboard.
A high-end company with just one person… Xia Yan smirked but said nothing more, picking up a pen from the side and slowly beginning to fill out the information.
Deliberately using regular script, she wrote very neatly and slowly, stroke by stroke. Meanwhile, she secretly activated the lowest state of boiling blood according to the control techniques roughly taught by Huang Gu.
In this moment, her perception, similar to a sense of smell, seemed to be magnified hundreds of times, and various particles in the air began to be categorized in her mind, gradually becoming clear.
He’s actually a normal human?
Xia Yan’s pen paused, and she slowly raised her head, looking with slight surprise at the back of the young man who was facing away from her, rummaging through something in a small refrigerator behind his desk.
“Have some water… Oh? Still using the most uncharacteristic regular script, you’re very cautious…”
The young man turned around, pushing a glass of light red unknown liquid across the desk, his eyes falling on the form Xia Yan was writing.
Looking at the light red liquid in front of her, Xia Yan frowned slightly; she detected the most familiar smell from the past few days.
“Don’t you think our company is very thoughtful? I added a few drops, it’s O type blood too, hope it suits your taste.”
Zhong Jing sat back in his computer chair, still grinning as he watched the black-haired girl.
Xia Yan withdrew her gaze and continued filling out the form, moving her lips as she spoke: “No, thank you, I only drink plain water.”
Hehe, a Thrall-level who’s only been blood invaded for a few days, with quite a tough personality, she’s an interesting person… Zhong Jing stopped talking, lit another cigarette, and quietly waited for her to finish filling out the forms.
…
About 15 minutes later, Xia Yan raised her head and pushed the two forms forward.
“Jiang Yan, 20 years old, Jiang Yao 18 years old… Eh, you’re already 20? Well, never mind, shouldn’t ask about a girl’s age… Hmm, choosing Y City for the identity address… Wait a moment, I’ll contact someone to check.”
Getting down to business, Zhong Jing also put away his frivolous expression, his hands flying impressively fast, the keyboard sounds crisp and powerful.
After sitting idle for half an hour, Zhong Jing finally turned off the computer and picked up the forms again: “In the entire S Province, there are more than 160 people called Jiang Yan, and even more called Jiang Yao, over 300 of them, hey, there are even a few men!”
Saying this, Zhong Jing made a few annotations on the forms and made several flamboyant corrections: “I suggest the new identities should be from the urban districts under C City, mainly because your accent is still somewhat different from Y City. Also, once you become a vampire, your fingerprints will change, but I still suggest minimizing contact with network terminal devices that require fingerprint verification.”
The young man before her was clearly no less detail-oriented than herself, but Xia Yan was somewhat distracted.
“Brother, I don’t want to change my name… I… I don’t want to forget the past like Huang Gu…”
In her mind, she recalled Gu Yao’s almost pleading tone before she left, and Xia Yan closed her eyes slightly.
Jiang was the surname of the old matron at the orphanage, after all, not a symbol completely severed from her past life.
“Um… Miss Jiang?”
Hearing the young man’s slightly confused voice, Xia Yan quickly returned to normal, her tone calm: “I’m sorry… Thank you, Mr. Zhong. What about the ID photos?”
As if he had anticipated this need, Zhong Jing pulled out a phone from his drawer and handed it to Xia Yan: “This phone is very secure, the number holder’s real-name information is from out of town, and the email has already been set up. You can take photos later and send them to me, I’ll process them. The new IDs will take a few days, and I’ll contact you through this phone, remember to send me the delivery address once you find a place to stay.”
“So fast?” Xia Yan was stunned.
Zhong Jing shrugged, looking smug: “Efficiency is also one of my principles! Even when you’re trying to get a high-speed rail ticket during Spring Festival travel rush, there are various paid express services, right?”
As he spoke, his gaze flicked to the travel bag Xia Yan had thrown on the sofa, showing a hint of cunning: “That’ll be 800,000 yuan.”
“…”
Xia Yan’s expression changed several times, and for the first time, she awkwardly avoided his gaze.
Lowering her head slightly, her voice became much quieter: “I’m sorry, I don’t have that much cash. This card, if Mr. Zhong can withdraw safely, consider it as the fee. There’s 1 million yuan in the card, I’ll write down the PIN for you…”
“Oh? Didn’t Huang Gu tell you about the fees?”
Slowly picking up the bank card from the desk, Zhong Jing’s smile was meaningful: “1 million? Miss Jiang must have been quite capable before. Hmm, very smart, and very safety-conscious… I’ll trust you too. I’ll have someone withdraw the money from the card in Hong Kong. However, there will be an additional 100,000 yuan runner’s fee, so that’s 900,000 in total, and I can give you the remaining 100,000 now.”
Opening a drawer and rummaging for a moment, he placed ten neatly bundled stacks of 100-yuan bills on the table.
“Mr. Zhong trusts what I say just like that, aren’t you afraid there’s no money in that card?”
Xia Yan pulled over her travel bag, put the money inside, and turned back with a smile before leaving.
“There are 17 pinhole cameras here, voice recorders, and all data is transmitted in real-time to specific servers for storage. A newborn Thrall can’t afford the consequences of trying to be clever here.”
Zhong Jing lit a cigarette with a smile, looking completely relaxed: “Thank you again for visiting our store, Miss Jiang. Take care.”
Nodding silently, Xia Yan left the room without looking back.
As the door gently closed, Zhong Jing’s smile gradually faded. He sat down in his computer chair and took out his phone.
“Huang Gu, the person you referred is really interesting, she actually gave money, haha… No, don’t expose it either, it’s very fun…”
“Hmm, very cautious and calm, doesn’t seem like a newborn vampire at all. I think she’d look even better with a change of style!”
Probably habitually going off-topic again, the other person immediately hung up. Zhong Jing grimaced, tossed aside his phone, opened the computer, and logged into a certain ACG culture game.
Looking at the beautiful anime girls with various poses and demeanors, Zhong Jing’s eyes lit up, appearing slightly comical.
