The two of them returned practically laden with goods.

Fu Manman had gathered many walnuts, while Fu Qiang had caught three snakes.

Back at the cave, Fu Qiang handled the snakes himself: skinning them, cutting them into sections, and roasting them over the fire.

Once cooked, Fu An even brought a piece to Fu Manman to eat. Fu Manman was so scared she dodged away. She wouldn’t eat it unless she was literally starving to death.

Watching Fu Manman run around in fright amused Fu Qiang, who giggled happily.

Inside the cave, the Chang family had finished their meal. Chang Zhong was twisting hemp rope, using dried grass to make cord that was very useful for tying things up.

Aunt Luhua was mending a piece of cloth.

Watching the Fu siblings play-fight, she laughed along. The three Fu children laughed even harder.

Fu Manman found the cloth somewhat familiar because it wasn’t the kind of fabric that should exist in this era.

“Auntie, where did you get this cloth?” Fu Manman stepped forward and asked.

Looking closely, she realized it was the fabric from the mattress she had brought out from her space!
“This? Speaking of which, it’s really miraculous. We saw a very large bed in the woods. This cloth is from that bed. We went to great effort to cut it off.”

“It’s a pity that the bed was too big! We couldn’t drag it; otherwise, sleeping on it at home would have been absolutely wonderful.” As Luhua spoke, a look of regret appeared in her eyes.

Fu Manman nodded. Yes! It was unfortunate that it was so large; otherwise, it would have been truly wonderful.

Even though they couldn’t move it, Luhua had come up with the idea of cutting the fabric off. The mattress had served some purpose after all, at least providing some warmth for the Chang family.

Fu Manman stopped focusing on the cloth. She had many things to attend to.

She needed to deal with the remaining meat first. Seeing Fu An squatting on the ground playing with stones and Fu Qiang sitting blankly at the cave entrance, Fu Manman said to them, “You two, come here. I have tasks for you.”

Fu An dropped what he was doing, ran to Fu Manman, and asked eagerly, “Sis, what is it?”

“Xiao Qiang, you come here too!” Fu Manman beckoned to Fu Qiang.
This name… really has tenacious vitality.

Hearing Fu Manman call him ‘Xiao Qiang’, Fu Qiang’s brow furrowed. He didn’t like it, and he didn’t want to pay Fu Manman any attention.

Seeing Fu Qiang remain motionless, Fu Manman felt displeased. This younger brother was quite rebellious and disobedient!

“Fu Qiang! I’ll say it one more time. If you don’t come over, the consequences will be severe,” Fu Manman threatened.

This time, Fu Qiang moved. He shuffled over slowly, his face full of displeasure.

“That’s more like it! If a family wants to survive, they have to be united. Understand?” Fu Manman said with a slightly authoritative tone.

She needed to project the aura of the eldest sister.

“Eldest Sister, I know. I’m very good,” Fu An said with a smile, patting his own chest.

“Mhmm! An’an is the best.” Fu Manman smiled broadly and ruffled Fu An’s little head. This younger brother was sweet-talking and obedient; she liked him.

Fu Qiang snorted coldly and shot a glare at Fu An, saying, “Traitor!”

Fu Manman ignored Fu Qiang and began assigning tasks.

“You two, listen up. Fu Qiang, you’ll slice the meat. Fu An, you’re responsible for roasting it. The meat needs to be sliced thinly. Fu An, when you’re roasting, be careful not to burn it.” Fu Manman briefly explained the division of labor to the two of them.

Then she set the stone slab she had found by the river back over the fire.

She first demonstrated: she sharpened the rusty iron knife on a stone, then sliced the meat and laid the pieces flat on the stone slab.

The firewood under the slab was burning vigorously. Soon, the meat on the slab began to sizzle as it fried, and the aroma of roasted meat wafted out.
