Blessed Girl From a Farm Family: Surviving the Famine With Space - Chapter 30
He had never tasted human milk before. Perhaps he had as an infant, but he was too young to remember, so he had no idea what it tasted like.
But this powder, when mixed with water, turned white—it must be milk, right?
Ideally, babies should drink breast milk, but Maodan no longer had a mother. He had never seen breast milk himself, so maybe this really could serve as a substitute!
It was truly miraculous. How could there be such magical powder in divine artifacts? Just add water, and it becomes milk!
“Let it drink first!” Fu Qiang pointed at the little tiger rolling around on the quilt.
“You silly child!” Fu Manman shook her head, then picked up the little tiger and brought it near the bowl, coaxing it to drink the milk.
The little tiger caught the scent of milk and buried its head in the bowl, lapping eagerly with its tiny tongue.
Fu Qiang watched as the little tiger finished the milk without any adverse reactions. It was amazing.
Seeing that Fu Qiang no longer objected, Fu Manman began feeding Maodan.
Maodan smelled the milk and immediately latched onto the nipple, sucking vigorously.
In no time, the milk was gone.
Once full, he stopped fussing and fell back asleep, his little mouth slightly open, his pink tongue still moving as if suckling. His adorable, chubby-cheeked appearance was utterly endearing.
Fu Qiang watched Maodan finish the milk and fall asleep without any issues. He felt relieved and even a little happy.
With this powder, Maodan might just survive.
But he had to keep an eye on Fu Manman—if she sneaked a taste, there might not be enough for Maodan.
“Meat’s here!” Fu An cheerfully entered the cave with cleaned meat and a washed stone slab he had found.
“Fu An, what’s that on your head?” Fu Qiang asked curiously, eyeing the gleaming iron helmet on Fu An’s head.
“A hat! I found it among Big Sis’s things. It fits perfectly and feels pretty sturdy.” Fu An tapped the iron pot with his hand.
Fu Manman looked up at Fu An’s getup and burst out laughing. “Haha!”
Her silly little brother had mistaken her small noodle-cooking pot for a hat and put it on his head. And honestly, it fit rather well.
“Big Sis, what are you laughing at?” Fu An asked innocently.
“Haha, it’s just too funny! Take that ‘hat’ off—it’s a pot!” Fu Manman pointed at the pot on Fu An’s head, giggling uncontrollably.
Her laughter was like silver bells, light and cheerful.
Fu Qiang couldn’t help but laugh too. So it was a pot after all.
Fu An’s face flushed red as he took the pot off his head. Upon closer inspection, it really was a pot—iron, and probably quite good for cooking.
“Hehehe… I’m so silly!” Fu An laughed along with her.
All along their journey fleeing the famine, it had been a long time since they had felt so happy.
Two hours later, the small cave was filled with the aroma of meat. It smelled so delicious. They had eaten noodles in the morning, and now their stomachs were growling with hunger.
Outside, the sky had gradually darkened—it was long past dinnertime.
The meat was tough and had taken a while to cook.
By now, the meat in the pot was tender and falling apart. Fu An had secretly tasted it earlier—it was incredibly flavorful. Though it was a bit gamey, it didn’t detract from the deliciousness.
Fu An ladled out the stew and called Fu Manman to eat. “Eldest Sister, time for meat soup!”
“Okay, coming.” Fu Manman was quite curious about this wolf meat soup—she’d never tried it before!
Seeing the rich, milky-white broth in the bowl, she couldn’t help but swallow. This body was so starved—just the sight of the soup made it look like a feast.
She eagerly took a sip, then immediately spat it out. “It’s awful! So gamey and bland.”
There wasn’t even any salt—the soup was completely undrinkable!
“But it’s delicious! This is wolf meat!” Fu An ate with relish.
As long as it wasn’t tree bark, anything tasted good!
Fu An was thoroughly satisfied. He glanced at Fu Qiang, who was sitting far away without moving, and called out, “Brother, come eat some meat!”
“I’m not eating. You go ahead.” Fu Qiang felt a bit uneasy. Along their journey, he had seen too many scenes of people eating people—the sight of meat made him nauseous.
Fu Manman looked at Fu Qiang. What was up with this second brother? He had been hesitant during noodle time too.
Now he wouldn’t eat meat—did she have to invite him again?
So fussy! She couldn’t indulge him! Fu Manman decided not to call him.
Instead, she pulled a packet of instant noodle seasoning from her ragged pocket.
Adding the seasoning to the soup should make it taste better, right?
She poured a packet into the pot, stirred it, and added a bit to her own bowl too.
Fu An watched curiously. “Eldest Sister, what did you add?”
“Some seasoning packets I found—the ones from the noodles. I wonder how it’ll taste in the soup.” Fu Manman lifted her bowl, took a sip, and her eyes lit up. Much better!
“Delicious!” She gulped down several mouthfuls, then tried the meat. Honestly, the meat was really fragrant!
Fu An eagerly served himself another bowl, blew on it to cool it, took a small sip, and exclaimed, “So good! Sister, this seasoning in the soup is amazing!”
Today, he was so happy. He had noodles in the morning and meat soup at night—it was truly wonderful!
And all of this was thanks to Eldest Sister. He looked at her and suddenly felt like she was radiating brilliance—she had become so great.
“Sister, you’re the best!” Fu An praised, laying it on thick.
Fu Qiang shot Fu An an annoyed glare. This forgetful Fu An—a little sweetness made him forget how awful Fu Manman could be.
“Hmph! We don’t even know if Shuangshuang is dead or alive.” Fu Qiang coldly snorted.
The smile instantly vanished from Fu An’s face. The meat no longer tasted good.
Yeah, who knew if Shuangshuang had anything to eat? If she were here, she’d be over the moon to see meat.
Fu Manman looked at Fu Qiang. So this brother had been holding a grudge over this sister named Shuangshuang!
…
But could she be blamed? She was new here—she didn’t understand anything, didn’t know anything!
Regardless, for the sake of family harmony, she had to say or do something.
She brought a bowl of meat soup to Fu Qiang and said gently, “Second Brother, don’t worry—I will definitely find Shuangshuang. For now, you should eat something. Otherwise, with the cold night and empty stomach, you’ll get sick.”
Fu Qiang slightly turned his head away, his expression icy. The smell of meat made him nauseous, especially when it came from Fu Manman—her hypocrisy was disgusting.
Fu Manman assumed Fu Qiang was still angry and tried to persuade him a few more times.
“I said I’m not eating,” Fu Qiang said coldly.
This stubborn brat! Still refusing her food—did he think it was poisoned or something?
“Fine, be fussy then! Go ahead and starve!” Fu Manman carried the meat soup away and said to Fu An, “Let’s finish the soup ourselves. Don’t leave any for him.”
Fu An was a bit conflicted. The soup was so good—he could easily finish ten more bowls. But really leave none for Second Brother?
Fu Manman drank another bowl, and soon the pot was empty.
The wolf meat soup really packed a punch—after drinking it, her whole body felt warm, and she didn’t feel cold at all.
After finishing the soup, she started grilling the wolf meat. Sliced and placed on a scalding-hot stone slab, the meat sizzled and quickly curled up. Brushed with sauce from the instant noodle oil packet, it became incredibly fragrant.
Fu An couldn’t stop swallowing. “Sister, it smells so good!”
“Super fragrant, right? Here, the first piece is for you.” Fu Manman handed the meat to Fu An, then glanced at Fu Qiang. Heh, stubborn little brother—let’s see how long you can hold out.
Fu Qiang sat to the side, listening to the sizzling of the meat and breathing in the tantalizing aroma. His resolve was wavering.
“Second Brother, come eat some meat! It’s so good!” Fu An said, his mouth greasy.
“Some people better come soon, or there won’t be any left!” Fu Manman announced loudly as the meat sizzled and glistened with oil.
Fu Qiang pressed his lips together and went outside—out of sight, out of mind.
“Look at your brother—so strong-willed. If this were a spy drama, he’d be a revolutionary hero, steadfast unto death.”
“Sister, what about me?” Fu An didn’t understand spy dramas, but he knew about heroes—he wanted to be one.
Fu Manman looked at Fu An’s greasy mouth and innocent expression and shook her head. “You? You definitely can’t be captured. A few pieces of meat would make you surrender!”
Fu An blinked and said honestly, “Sister! It wouldn’t take a few—one piece would be enough!”
…This silly brother!
Outside the cave, the sky gradually darkened. They would be spending the night in this cave.
