- Chapter 12 - Delicious Food
It had to be said, this was an utterly miraculous space. Everything Fu Manman wanted to find, she actually managed to locate. Regardless of the production date, the moment these items fell into the sea, the space had sealed them, freezing time and preserving their freshness.
The only catch was that finding things took a bit of time. Water was in the food category, kettles were in the daily necessities category, and gas canisters were in the outdoor category.
Using the bubble buoy retrieval system, she found what she needed. The bubbles would immediately float the container with the required items right to her side.
On top of one container, Fu Manman set up a stove to boil water for formula.
In the vast, boundless space, she was the only one bustling about—first boiling water, then pouring it into a thermos she had found, and finally preparing the formula.
She had originally thought she would have a child of her own, so she had learned about childcare in advance.
Preparing formula for a baby: the formula can specify how much powder and how much water to use.
Checking the instructions: 30ML per scoop of formula, 60ML for two scoops, and so on.
She remembered from childcare books that babies under one month old eat very little and should be fed small amounts frequently.
At this stage, a baby’s stomach is tiny, about the size of a small grape—how much milk could it possibly hold?
And this child had been starving for a long time, so its stomach was likely even smaller.
Fu Manman prepared 15ML of formula, just to relieve the child’s hunger a little, planning to feed it more frequently throughout the day.
Once the formula was ready, she tested the temperature on the back of her hand, then picked up Little Maodan and gently patted his cheek. “Little Maodan, wake up, it’s time to eat!”
Little Maodan’s eyes were tightly shut, his emaciated face dark purple, his chest heaving violently with laboured breaths.
If he kept sleeping like this, he would starve to death in his sleep.
“Little Maodan, time to drink milk!” Fu Manman’s heart ached terribly. Her own child had vanished like a bubble, and she didn’t want this one to die.
After just a few days together, this child had become an emotional anchor for her.
She slipped the nipple into the child’s mouth and gently rocked him. “Drink up, baby. You can sleep again after you’re full.”
Fu Manman was anxious inside, but her movements were gentle and patient. She kept calling to him until, suddenly, the child began to suckle. Warm formula flowed into the baby’s hungry stomach.
The milk in the bottle dwindled until it was completely gone.
Even after the milk was finished, the child’s mouth remained tightly clamped around the nipple, still sucking.
Afraid the baby would swallow air into its stomach, Fu Manman quickly pulled the nipple out.
As the saying goes, “using the strength of drinking milk”—this little one certainly had a powerful suck, gripping the nipple tightly.
It took some clever maneuvering to get it out.
But as soon as she removed the bottle, the baby opened its toothless mouth and wailed.
After having some milk, its cries were even louder.
A child this small doesn’t even have tears yet. If it did, with these cries and that sorrowful expression, there would surely be a flood of them.
Fu Manman prepared another 30ML, mixing hot and cold water. The moment the nipple touched the baby’s lips, the little one opened its mouth and accurately latched on, gulping down the milk eagerly.
“Slow down! You poor thing, you must have been starving. Don’t worry, from now on you’ll never go hungry again.” A warm smile spread across Fu Manman’s face.
As long as she was in this space, she wouldn’t starve. There was enough food here to last over a dozen lifetimes.
The little one, now full, fell asleep peacefully, a trace of milk still at the corner of its mouth. Occasionally, it would even smile in its sleep, filling Fu Manman with joy.
What a little sweetheart.
She laid the child down flat, letting it sleep soundly.
Now, she needed to find something tasty for herself. Earlier, she had only eaten dry instant noodles and wasn’t full yet.
Soon, Fu Manman was holding a steaming bowl of freshly cooked instant noodles, slurping them up happily.
“Mmm… so delicious, so good.” For the first time, she felt that cooked instant noodles could be this fragrant—absolutely heavenly.
After finishing the bowl, she got to work. She needed to find clothes—comfortable ones for both herself and the baby. Then, she would look for a mattress and blankets so they could both get a good night’s sleep.
