At this time, Bai Zi was lying on the large bed that had been transformed from a long sofa. She opened her eyes and stared at the ceiling, not daring to move at all.

It wasn’t because Bai Zi’s hands and feet were tied, nor was it because there were mutants nearby, but because Meng Yilan was lying next to her.

And Mao Mao was sleeping on the armchair five meters away, its snores not loud, but just humming and groaning, which annoyed Bai Zi at this time.

Liao Yuting was taken to another room to rest by Uncle Hong. Bai Zi had also wanted to go out and sit by the bonfire, since she wasn’t sleepy at all.

But Meng Yilan used the “assistant’s duty” as a reason to make Bai Zi stay in the room, and even lie on the bed together.

Before going to sleep, Meng Yilan had very officially and impartially arranged what Bai Zi should do clearly—

Always pay attention to Meng Yilan’s sleeping position, in case she accidentally turned over and pressed on her gunshot wound.

Always be vigilant and not let outsiders sneak into the room, in case people like Ada took advantage of the situation again.

And the last one, Bai Zi must sleep appropriately. If she couldn’t work due to staying up late and being too tired, the losses caused would be borne by Bai Zi alone.

Hearing the last one, Bai Zi was stunned, and was about to refute, but Meng Yilan had already closed her eyes, ignoring her.

Therefore, the awkward situation now formed.

After an unknown amount of time, Bai Zi finally heard Meng Yilan’s breathing gradually become steady, so she should have fallen asleep.

This was the first time she had slept in the same bed with Meng Yilan, and Bai Zi felt uncomfortable all over, as if there were hundreds of insects crawling on her body, but she didn’t dare to move at all.

In order to divert her attention, Bai Zi began to think wildly.

When she told Meng Yilan “I’ll think about it,” Meng Yilan seemed to be angry.

Although she didn’t show a bad face or say anything harsh, Bai Zi still felt that Meng Yilan was desperately suppressing some emotion.

On the way to chase Mao Mao, she felt that Meng Yilan behind her was like a balloon that was constantly inflating, not knowing when it would suddenly burst.

Why would Meng Yilan have such a reaction?

Bai Zi closed her eyes for a while, and then opened her eyes again. She lay on the bed in such an extremely awkward manner, until she heard the sound of several people walking by outside the room.

At this time, seven or eight hours had passed since the two had lain down.

Meng Yilan seemed to still be sleeping soundly, but about ten seconds ago, Bai Zi had heard a very soft groan coming from next to her. After a while, it sounded again, like the panting caused by physical discomfort.

Then, Meng Yilan seemed to unconsciously begin to twist her body, and was about to press her arm with the gunshot wound under her body. Bai Zi immediately got up, stopping Meng Yilan’s movement.

“Meng Yilan?” Bai Zi called softly.

Meng Yilan didn’t respond, but reached out and hugged Bai Zi’s arm.

At this time, Bai Zi finally realized that Meng Yilan’s body temperature seemed to be much higher than usual.

Bai Zi turned sideways, and touched Meng Yilan’s forehead, finding it scalding hot.

Ever since being bitten, Bai Zi’s body temperature had been higher than normal, but now she felt that Meng Yilan’s forehead was scalding hot, which meant that Meng Yilan had a high fever.

Realizing this, Bai Zi wanted to go out and find a doctor.

But as soon as she moved, Meng Yilan tightened her arms, and then let out another uncomfortable groan.

Bai Zi called out softly again: “Meng Yilan?”

“Hmm…” Meng Yilan responded this time, but she was obviously delirious, still hugging Bai Zi’s arm, refusing to move.

“You seem to have a fever,” Bai Zi explained softly. “I’ll go get the doctor.”

What answered Bai Zi was Meng Yilan’s sobbing.

Bai Zi: “?”

As if to prove that Bai Zi hadn’t misheard, Meng Yilan’s crying became a little louder.

Was she possessed by a ghost?

The last time she had seen Meng Yilan cry was in the toy store in the zoo, but she had only seen the moment when the other party’s tears fell, and not this very substantial crying.

Bai Zi looked down, seeing Meng Yilan’s cheeks flushed red, her eyebrows tightly furrowed, and tears constantly falling from her tightly closed eyes.

Meng Yilan was tall, with long arms and legs, and had a cold temperament. Just revealing a slightly sharp look in her eyes could make others retreat, but at this time, she was curled up into a small ball, her delicate face full of grievance, crying softly while tugging on Bai Zi’s arm like a baby.

“Meng Yilan,” Bai Zi asked a little shocked, “What’s wrong?”

Meng Yilan seemed to have regained some consciousness. She kept her eyes closed, her mouth turned down painfully, and said while sobbing: “…Uncomfortable.”

Bai Zi felt like her brain was about to split open: “Where is it uncomfortable?”

“Hand,” Meng Yilan hiccuped, reporting to Bai Zi like a child, “Um, my hand, my hand hurts.”

Bai Zi was stunned, and looked down at the gunshot wound on Meng Yilan’s arm, and the knife wound on her palm.

Her heart was instantly softened. Bai Zi didn’t even realize that many words that she had never said before came out of her mouth: “Okay, okay, I’ll go get the medicine, what kind of medicine do you want?”

Meng Yilan, however, grabbed Bai Zi’s arm, raising her voice and crying: “I don’t want, don’t want medicine, I don’t want to see a doctor, I want, I want a hug!”

Bai Zi: “???”

The woman who was usually so mature and elegant was now completely different. Even Mao Mao was awakened by the crying, and yawned loudly, then looked at the bed with a confused expression.

“Meng Yilan,” Bai Zi said helplessly, “Do you know who I am?”

Meng Yilan, whose nose was running from crying, didn’t have any image left: “You are, Bai Zi…”

Bai Zi: “…”

At this moment, Bai Zi really hoped that she had a phone or a camera in her hand. She wanted to capture this once-in-a-lifetime scene, which would be the brightest highlight in Meng Yilan’s life, without exception.

“Listen,” Bai Zi cleared her throat. “If your hand hurts, you have to take medicine…”

Meng Yilan suddenly interrupted her: “I also have a headache, it hurts so much, my whole body hurts!”

After saying that, Meng Yilan completely let go of her restraints, buried her head in Bai Zi’s arms, and cried loudly.

Her crying was so sincere and heartfelt, as if some great grievance was weighing her down, making it impossible for her to live on. It was simply heartbreaking to hear.

The voyeuristic mentality that Bai Zi had originally had instantly dissipated. Her whole heart was tugged by the crying, and she immediately raised her hand to rub her temples for her: “Does this feel better?”

Meng Yilan didn’t answer, she only cried, and even cried louder and louder.

Suddenly, there was a knock on the door: “Miss Meng? Miss Bai?”

It was Uncle Hong’s voice. Bai Zi immediately said to the door: “Miss Meng has a fever, please call the doctor.”

“Okay.” Uncle Hong left immediately.

Bai Zi’s sleeves were completely wet, and her upper body was covered with Meng Yilan’s tears and snot, but she still patiently massaged her temples for the person in her arms, and was very careful to pay attention to the other party’s body movements, in case she accidentally pressed on her injured arm.

The urgent knocking on the door sounded again. Seeing Meng Yilan showed no sign of stopping, Bai Zi had no choice but to say to the door: “Wait a moment!”

After a while, Meng Yilan seemed to no longer be uncomfortable, or perhaps she was tired from crying. Her sobbing gradually subsided, but she suddenly said with a trembling voice: “I don’t want medicine too…give me, give me candy, strawberry flavor.” Then, she began to cry loudly in grievance, “Don’t, don’t give me lemon flavor, otherwise, I’ll be very sad!”

She wanted candy, strawberry flavor.

She didn’t want lemon flavor, because she would be very sad.

Bai Zi nodded stiffly: “Okay.”

Having received a satisfactory answer, Meng Yilan’s crying stopped again.

She hiccuped, and finally released Bai Zi.

Daring not to delay any longer, Bai Zi immediately tidied up Meng Yilan’s face, which was a mess from crying, and the clothes on her body that had been messed up from curling up, and then got out of bed and opened the door to let the doctor in to examine Meng Yilan, while she quickly left the room—to find strawberry-flavored candy.

After going around in circles, about twenty minutes later, Bai Zi returned with a small piece of slightly damp candy wrapped in paper. She really couldn’t find strawberry flavor, only finding lemon flavor, which would make Meng Yilan “very sad.”

Better than nothing.

Bai Zi met the doctor who was about to leave at the door: “She caught a cold and has a fever, it’s nothing serious. I gave her an injection, and she just took the medicine and lay down. She’ll be fine after another sleep. If there’s anything, please let me know.”

“Thank you.” Bai Zi nodded, and after saying goodbye to the doctor, returned to the room.

Mao Mao had fallen asleep on the armchair not far away again, and Meng Yilan was lying on the bed with her back to the door, her injured arm resting by her side. This scene made Bai Zi feel a little distressed.

She had been calm and collected when she was shot, but she hadn’t thought that she would be so sensitive to pain.

“Meng Yilan,” Bai Zi said softly, standing by the bed. “I couldn’t find any strawberry-flavored candy.”

Meng Yilan didn’t speak, or even move.

Bai Zi frowned, thinking that the doctor had said that Meng Yilan had just lain down, how could she have fallen asleep so quickly?

“Meng Yilan?” Bai Zi called out softly again.

The other party still didn’t respond. Bai Zi simply walked to the other side of the bed, and directly looked at Meng Yilan’s face, but found that her eyebrows were tightly furrowed, and her breathing wasn’t steady, so she obviously hadn’t fallen asleep.

Bai Zi couldn’t help but be confused, but still said softly: “I found a lemon-flavored candy, do you want it?”

Meng Yilan’s eyebrows twitched very obviously. Although she didn’t open her eyes, her face visibly darkened.

Just as Bai Zi was about to ask again, Meng Yilan suddenly spoke, her tone extremely calm and light, as if she had returned to her normal state, completely different from the Meng Yilan who had buried her head in Bai Zi’s arms and cried bitterly just now: “I want to sleep.”

Bai Zi was stunned. She opened her mouth, but in the end didn’t say anything, only casually putting the lemon candy aside, and then tiptoed back to the bed, preparing to lie down, but heard Meng Yilan say calmly: “If you’re not sleepy, you can do whatever you want.”

Bai Zi, who was propping herself up with one hand, maintaining a half-lying position, suddenly stopped moving. She frowned, and asked very puzzled: “Aren’t you supposed to let me do the work of an ‘assistant’?”

Hearing this, Meng Yilan’s eyebrows furrowed even tighter, but she still didn’t open her eyes.

Her lips moved slightly, and then she took a breath, lying down a little awkwardly. Then, she wanted to turn her body to the other side, intending to turn her back to Bai Zi, but was stopped by the other party holding her hand.

“Your wound, don’t press on it.” Bai Zi forcefully pressed Meng Yilan back onto the bed.

Meng Yilan took another deep breath.

Bai Zi asked a little worriedly: “Is it still very uncomfortable?”

Meng Yilan repeated very calmly: “I want to sleep.”

“If it hurts, you have to tell me.” Bai Zi instructed worriedly, and then lay down next to Meng Yilan, no longer speaking.

The room that had been baptized by earth-shattering crying suddenly became quiet.

The two people’s breathing was shallowly intertwined. Bai Zi occasionally turned her head, or scratched her neck, but Meng Yilan didn’t move at all, her body extremely stiff, as if frozen.

Mao Mao’s snores sounded again, and everything seemed to have returned to the way it was before Meng Yilan had cried.

Although sleepiness was coming in waves, Meng Yilan was still stubbornly refusing to fall asleep.

Finally, she couldn’t help but speak: “I was…not very clear-headed just now.”

Her tone was calm, as if she was talking to Bai Zi about the weather.

“Yeah.” Bai Zi responded.

Meng Yilan took a breath: “I couldn’t control myself for a moment.”

Bai Zi nodded: “I can understand.”

“And, I haven’t been sick for many years.”

Bai Zi: “Yeah.”

Meng Yilan continued to add: “I rarely cry.”

Bai Zi: “…”

Meng Yilan: “I…”

But before Meng Yilan could finish speaking, her forehead suddenly felt warm. It was Bai Zi who had reached out to test her temperature.

The soft palm made Meng Yilan’s heart skip a beat.

“It’s still very hot,” Bai Zi said softly. “Sleep, and after you wake up, your fever will definitely be gone.”

Bai Zi took her hand back, moved her body, and no longer spoke.

Meng Yilan realized after a long while that she had unknowingly held her breath. After realizing this, she exhaled a long breath as lightly as possible.

Her face was still burning, but Meng Yilan couldn’t tell if it was because of the fever, or because of some other reason.

When she was crying, she could recognize that the person in front of her was Bai Zi.

But because she was delirious, she couldn’t control her words and actions.

Even now, Meng Yilan couldn’t understand why she, who had always been calm and composed, would suddenly go so crazy in front of Bai Zi.

Meng Yilan hadn’t lied, she really rarely cried, and she really hadn’t been sick for a long time.

But no one knew that Meng Yilan couldn’t help but cry every time she was sick—because every time she was sick, she was alone.

But this time, it was purely an accident.

At that time, she only felt that her whole body was in pain, and her bone marrow was constantly heating up and cooling down. The physical discomfort made her couldn’t help but want to cry like she had when she was sick in the past.

Especially after hearing Bai Zi’s voice, she could no longer endure it, and burst into tears.

Then everything was lost.

After the doctor gave Meng Yilan an injection and she took the medicine, she finally realized what she had done.

Hopefully, Bai Zi would forget about this, and hopefully I would forget about this.

After making a wish that was impossible to fulfill, Meng Yilan finally couldn’t hold on any longer, and fell into a deep sleep.
