Although he didn’t know where this guy was taking him, judging by how he immediately acted upon receiving the news, it was clear he was getting desperate.

Li Nuo moved his fingers, forwarded the message to Mo Chuan, and replied to Zhang Wanhui with a simple “Okay.”

Then he turned and shouted, “Li Yan, that guy Zhang Wanhui asked to meet me tomorrow and said I should come alone. You have to hide well tomorrow.”

Li Yan nodded solemnly.

As dusk approached, the doorbell rang, and the door opened automatically.

Li Yan, who was making dinner, looked visibly impatient as if saying he would definitely replace the door sooner or later.

Curious, Li Nuo peeked out and saw Mo Chuan and Qin Xu walking in as if they were coming back to their own home, taking off their shoes at the entrance.

Seeing Qin Xu, Li Nuo smiled. “Congratulations, Brother Qin, on becoming chairman.”

“I just got back and saw a lot of stories about you on social media.” Li Nuo’s smile carried a hint of teasing.

Unlike when he was just one of the directors, the recent major changes at Yuesen had attracted public attention. After all, it was a large company, and any change in the chairman position was significant to both partners and shareholders.

Moreover, Qin Xu was so young and already had become the chairman. Coupled with his good looks, he was quite popular with the media.

“Don’t tease me like that.” Qin Xu reached out and tapped Li Nuo on the forehead. “What matters now is handling your issue.”

“You’re going out tomorrow night. What sneaky thing are you trying to do?” Mo Chuan snorted.

“No matter how you look at it, going out at night, avoiding crowds, hiding your tracks… It doesn’t sound like anything good.”

“You guys didn’t find out what it’s about?” Li Nuo asked curiously.

“No. That guy was pretty discreet about it,” Mo Chuan spread his hands. “The main problem is that the timeline is stretched out, and we didn’t focus on them before.”

He patted Li Nuo’s head. “Don’t worry. That coffee shop is completely under our control now.”

The next day, Li Nuo went alone to the agreed location.

At 10 p.m., although some people were still partying into the night, the spring night was still chilly, and there weren’t many people on the streets. The coffee shop was already closed.

Li Nuo looked around outside the coffee shop for a while before someone emerged from a nearby alley.

“You sure took your time.”

Li Nuo looked Zhang Wanhui over under the streetlight. He didn’t look like he’d been doing well lately. His eyes were bloodshot, stubble covered his face, and his clothes were wrinkled all over.

“You’re calling people out this late at night. I’m only here because of our past friendship,” Li Nuo said with clear impatience. “So, tell me, where exactly are we going? I’ll say this now. If it’s too far, I’m not going. Do you even know what time it is?”

“It’s only about twenty minutes away. Don’t worry. You’ll understand once we get there.”

Zhang Wanhui walked up to a black car. “Let’s go. Your father’s there too. You want to see him, right?”

He clearly didn’t believe that years of feelings could just vanish because of amnesia. Not to mention, he had told Li Nuo that Li Yan wasn’t his biological brother. That should make him even more eager to understand things from someone actually related to him by blood.

Li Nuo brushed back the hair near his ear to cover the earpiece. Thankfully, his hair had grown longer recently. Otherwise, it really wouldn’t cover it.

After the two of them got into the car, several other vehicles emerged from the surrounding corners, keeping a distance as they followed the black car.

“I told you that guy didn’t have good intentions toward you,” Zhang Wanhui said angrily in the car. “He knew he wasn’t your real brother and still stayed by your side pretending.”

Li Nuo was puzzled. Didn’t that actually show Li Yan was a good person? He was still a kid and didn’t abandon him even though he was a burden, taking on all the responsibilities himself.

“That’s why he definitely has ulterior motives.”

Couldn’t it just be kindness and good nature?

Isn’t this just judging a gentleman by the standards of a petty man?

Li Nuo mused, Perhaps the original owner was that kind of person too.

Upon accidentally learning that his younger brother was not biologically related to him, his suspicion immediately reached its peak. He would rather trust the father who had once abandoned him than believe in Li Yan, who had always been by his side.

Blood ties…

Li Nuo thought of his aunt and could only admit that human hearts truly change, especially in the face of immense personal gain.

The twenty-minute car ride passed amid Zhang Wanhui’s constant muttering.

Li Nuo glanced out the window. The road was deserted and in disrepair, with only a few functioning streetlights. He opened the window slightly and smelled a briny scent carried by the wind.

Was this… the seaside?

The car slowly came to a stop. “Get out.”

As soon as Li Nuo stepped out, the cold night wind made him sneeze. He pulled his clothes tighter and heard the sound of waves crashing against the rocks.

By the dim light, he looked around. It seemed to be… a port?

Why come here?

“Xiao Nuo.”

Hearing someone call him, Li Nuo squinted ahead and barely made out the figure under the faint light.

It was Li Yuzhi.

He was on a boat.

A boat about ten meters long was docked at the shore, and Li Yuzhi was on it, waving at him.

Zhang Wanhui tried to pull him along. “Come on, let’s go. We’ll take the boat and transfer to another one midway. We’ll head abroad like this. No one will find out.”

Li Nuo subtly avoided his hand. Is this… human smuggling? These two are trying to take me out of the country?

Fleeing abroad in the dark, with someone waiting to receive them. If this wasn’t smuggling, what was it?

Seeing that Li Nuo wasn’t moving, Zhang Wanhui grew anxious. “Don’t worry about what it is. We’re running out of time. If we don’t leave now, we’ll be discovered.”

His words were cut off by the roar of engines as several beams of intense light lit up the darkness. Cars sped in and surrounded the two of them.

Mo Chuan stepped out of one and gave a sinister grin. “Discovered by who?”

He had long found this guy annoying.

Always bragging, overtly or subtly, about how close he was to Li Nuo in high school.

As soon as they were spotted, the boat at the dock started up and left, completely ignoring Zhang Wanhui.

Qin Xu glanced at the now-“captured” Li Nuo, then looked toward the sea. “Send someone after them.”

Mo Chuan nodded, then chuckled darkly and playfully lifted Li Nuo’s chin. “Little beauty, looks like you’re in my hands now.”

Li Nuo was speechless at Mo Chuan’s sudden theatrics and shot him a discreet eye-roll: You do realize you’re blowing your cover, right?

Mo Chuan winked: Nah, he’s too dumb to notice.

“Take these two away.”

After the two of them were stuffed into separate cars, Mo Chuan walked over to Qin Xu. “That boat—could it have been provided by Director Wen?”

“No. I’ve been keeping a close watch on Wen Dong. He’s still under investigation and doesn’t have the capacity to deal with anything else.” Qin Xu looked at the boat disappearing into the distance. “Doesn’t seem like someone from our side made a move.”

“Whatever,” Mo Chuan shrugged casually, though there was no warmth in his eyes. “We’ll just ask them and find out.”

Not willing to talk? That’s impossible. There have always been plenty of ways to make people talk—since ancient times and even now.

When Li Nuo got into the car, he shivered from the temperature difference. Li Yan immediately covered him with a blanket. “Brother, you’re not catching a cold, are you?”

“No. It’s only It’s only been a short while. No need to worry.”

Around midnight, Qin Xu’s team at sea captured Li Yuzhi and detained him with Zhang Wanhui in a warehouse.

The two of them were anxious, but aside from the guards, no one came to deal with them that entire day.

In Mo Chuan’s words, it was better to let them sit for a day to build some psychological pressure and see what happens.

“I’ll go question them. You guys stay in the car and watch the surveillance feed. The communication devices are already set up,” Mo Chuan said, waving his hand casually.

……………

Locked up together, the two tried many ways to escape, but none of them worked. The warehouse had far too many guards.

The next day, accompanied by an unpleasant noise, the warehouse doors slowly opened.

With the sunlight came Mo Chuan and Fang Che.

Mo Chuan fixed a cold, emotionless gaze on Li Yuzhi, while Fang Che opened the room next door and brought someone out.

“Secretary Chen, you recognize these two, don’t you?”

This was Wen Dong’s trusted secretary, and also the person who had once contacted Zhang Wanhui and Li Yuzhi.

“Good, it seems you do know them. Then there’s no problem. So, where should we start our questioning?”

Zhang Wanhui, with tape over his mouth, tried to make a sound. “Mmm, mmm, mmm.”

Mo Chuan glanced at him. “Hah, still so lively, huh.”

The sight of his enemy sparked such hatred in Zhang Wanhui that he immediately tried to lunge forward, but the guards pressed him down by the shoulders, forcing him to the floor.

Mo Chuan showed no mercy at that sight. He extended his hands, and Fang Che passed him a pair of black gloves. He calmly put them on, then walked over and stepped on Zhang Wanhui’s hand. The crushing pain made Zhang Wanhui let out a short, pained groan.

“I’m in a bit of a rush, so let’s cut to the point. What did you say the last time you met with Secretary Chen?”

Upon hearing his name so suddenly, Secretary Chen’s body trembled slightly.

“Uh… Mmm…”

Mo Chuan gave a signal, and the guard roughly tore off the tape on his mouth.

The pain of the skin and hair being ripped away made Zhang Wanhui let out an ugly sound. Mo Chuan, annoyed, increased the pressure on his foot, and the guard quickly covered his mouth again, letting only muffled sounds escape.

In the car outside, Li Nuo watched the live surveillance feed and stroked his chin. Li Yan asked worriedly, “Brother, if you don’t want to watch…”

“No,” Li Nuo shook his head, “I just think Brother Mo’s contrast is a bit much. People really are complicated.”

Still, seeing his ruthless side didn’t make Li Nuo feel afraid at all. He thought to himself that he was really done for. Did he have to like Mo Chuan this much?

……………

Zhang Wanhui felt like he was about to suffocate. He nodded frantically, showing with his actions that he was ready to talk.

Only then did Mo Chuan signal the guard to release him, and he also lifted his foot.

Zhang Wanhui coughed a few times before speaking, “Back then, around a year ago, Secretary Chen came to find me. He was asking about Li Yan…”

At the time, Zhang Wanhui didn’t want to talk, but after being offered a large sum of money, he revealed everything he knew. He even recommended Li Yuzhi to Secretary Chen. After all, who knows a son better than a father?

Li Yuzhi felt no guilt about sharing that information. After receiving that large sum of money, he went gambling again.

Later, Zhang Wanhui also used that money to hire someone to commit a violent act.

But the story didn’t end there.

In order to find out about Li Nuo, who had suddenly appeared at the company as an intern, Secretary Chen approached the two of them again.

At that time, neither of them knew that Li Nuo had lost his memory, so they shared everything they had previously known.

Then, a few months ago, when Li Nuo suddenly disappeared, Secretary Chen contacted them again, hoping to bring Li Nuo back, and promised to pay several times more than before.

Li Nuo, still watching from the car, clicked his tongue at the same time as Mo Chuan. So, in the end, the target really did become him.

“Anything else?”

Zhang Wanhui looked at Mo Chuan’s indifferent expression. “After that, I couldn’t contact Li Nuo anymore. There was only that one time I managed to get through on the phone. I told him that Li Yan and he weren’t related by blood, and that’s all.”

“Oh? Then why did you keep trying to contact him and even take him to the port?”

“That was…”

Zhang Wanhui turned toward Li Yuzhi. “He was the one who told me to take him there.”

All eyes inside and outside the warehouse turned to focus on Li Yuzhi.
