In the hospital room.

After Mo Chuan left, Li Nuo sat in a daze for a long time.

Staring at the ceiling, his thoughts were a tangled mess.

The spot where Mo Chuan had kissed him felt slightly itchy, prompting him to unconsciously reach out and scratch it.

A single question swirled in his mind, Why did he kiss me?

Could it be that Mo Chuan likes me?

He carefully recalled the events. Indeed, during this period, he had been treating him very well and frequently made intimate gestures. However, Li Nuo had assumed it was just him being playful and hadn’t considered the possibility that he might actually like him.

Wait, could this be the reason for the revolving door of people around Mo Chuan?

Was he using gentle means to attract others?

But something didn’t add up. He suddenly remembered Mo Chuan once saying that he never actively pursued anyone; instead, it was always others who approached him.

So, does he genuinely like me?

What should I do if that’s the case? Reject him?

Given that he couldn’t guarantee he would remain in this place forever, it would be difficult to develop a relationship with anyone.

The more Li Nuo thought about it, the more muddled his mind became. Forget it—after all, Mo Chuan was going on a business trip for a month. Who knows, maybe his feelings would change during that time.

There was no point in overthinking things and causing unnecessary worry.

Pushing these thoughts aside, Li Nuo opened his laptop and aimlessly clicked around, browsing the news.

As summer gradually passed, the days grew shorter, and darkness fell earlier. While Li Nuo was staring blankly at his laptop, the caregiver, Brother Da Wen, walked in.

“Sorry, I’m a bit late today. There was a traffic jam.”

Brother Da Wen was someone who looked honest and, in fact, was genuinely honest. His smile carried a kind of simplicity, and he was very good at taking care of people.

Accordingly, his salary was also quite high.

“No problem,” Li Nuo replied with a smile. “Li Yan went home today, so I’ll be relying on you tonight.”

“Not an issue, not an issue. Oh, you bought a laptop? Makes sense. It must be pretty boring staying here alone all the time. A laptop’s definitely more entertaining than a phone.”

Li Nuo moved the laptop to one side without explaining that it was a gift from someone else. Instead, he rubbed his temples and said, “Brother Da Wen, I feel a bit tired today and want to rest early.”

“Ah, of course. Sleep is good for recovery.”

After making sure that Li Nuo had taken his medication, he helped him clean up, changed his clothes, and checked the gauze on his wounds. Seeing Li Nuo’s pale face, Brother Da Wen sighed inwardly at how much he was suffering. He thought to himself, Such a fragile-looking person… I hope he recovers soon.

When Li Yan wasn’t around, it was naturally Brother Da Wen who kept watch at his bedside. Perhaps Li Nuo had been overthinking today, as he felt exhausted. A few minutes after lying down and closing his eyes, his breathing became steady.

Early the next morning, Li Yan rushed back to the hospital, carrying breakfast in his hand.

Scanning the room, Brother Da Wen was startled awake when someone entered. “Li Yan, you’re here!”

“Mm. Thank you for your hard work. I’ll take over from here. You can go home and rest for a while,” Li Yan said with a smile, putting down the breakfast.

“Alright, I’ll come back around noon.”

Watching the caregiver leave while yawning, Li Yan shifted his attention back to the room. As he approached the bed, he immediately noticed a laptop sitting on the bedside table.

Where did this come from?

It was unlikely that Li Nuo had bought it himself; he was very frugal, feeling distressed even about the cost of hiring a caregiver. That left only two possible sources: Qin Xu and Mo Chuan.

Director Qin had been in meetings yesterday, so the most likely person was Mo Chuan.

That man was truly like a lingering shadow.

Thankfully, he would be gone on a business trip for a month.

Li Yan temporarily moved the laptop aside. Perhaps the sound of him tidying up was what woke Li Nuo, who had been sleeping soundly for quite a while.

The moment he woke up, Li Nuo instinctively tried to turn over. The pain from the wound on his chest immediately jolted him fully awake.

“Hiss—”

Li Yan hurriedly helped him sit up. “Brother, are you okay?”

After the pain subsided, Li Nuo rested for a while before speaking, “Well, it just happened in a moment of carelessness, but this indirectly proves that my subconscious recognizes the wound is healing, right?”

“Are you comforting yourself?” Li Yan chuckled from the side.

Brother He had said that his wound was healing well, and he didn’t seem as tense anymore.

“Maintaining a positive mindset is important,” Li Nuo said as he reached out his hand toward him. “Go freshen up first, I’m hungry.”

The two brothers tacitly avoided mentioning anything about the laptop.

Li Nuo still felt a little guilty. If Li Yan found out that Mo Chuan kissed him yesterday, there was no telling how angry he would get.

After watching him finish breakfast, Li Yan left for the company.

He Yan came by again in the morning to change Li Nuo’s bandages. When he saw the stack of books piled next to the laptop, he grinned broadly.

“If you’re so bored, how about studying something?”

Li Nuo looked at him, confused. “Study?”

“Now that you have a laptop and time, you could look for something to learn, maybe follow along with some video tutorials.”

Li Nuo’s eyes lit up. That was indeed a good idea.

“Playing games is fine too. Games can help you make friends. You’re only in your early twenties. It’s completely normal to play games.”

Seeing Li Nuo nod, He Yan continued, “Of course, don’t exhaust yourself over it. Stop if you feel tired, and don’t play games that might make you angry. You can’t afford to get upset.”

After changing his bandages, and seeing Li Nuo’s small face twisted in pain, He Yan comforted him, “The wound has already scabbed over. It’s much better now, and you might be able to leave the hospital soon.”

“This spot feels a little itchy. It’s uncomfortable all over.” Li Nuo pointed to the wound on his chest as he spoke.

“Itching means it’s scabbing. Just don’t pick at it. Let it fall off naturally.”

“I’m not that stupid, okay.”

Although he knew the concern was for his own good, hearing the constant nagging every day was beginning to wear on his nerves.

“Hey, I’m just looking out for you. Remember to take your medicine on time. The nurse and Li Yan both said you always need reminding,” He Yan said as he gently patted Li Nuo’s head. “This surgery has had a big impact on you. For a long time to come, you won’t be able to stop taking medication, so you’ll need to get used to it.”

Li Nuo nodded. He had forgotten a few times before and ended up getting scolded by Li Yan.

“In the hospital, it’s fine because people are here to remind you. But after you’re discharged, you’ll have to pay attention yourself. If you keep forgetting, set more alarms to remind yourself.”

“I understand.”

“Have you memorized the information I gave you last time?”

“I’ve memorized it all.”

The information He Yan gave last time included foods to avoid while taking the medication and other precautions.

Shaking his head, He Yan sighed, “I can’t trust your memory. Just take a photo of it instead.”

Li Nuo puffed out his cheeks. “I’m not that unreliable!”

After a moment of silence, he hesitantly said, “Brother He, after the surgery… I had a dream.”

“What kind of dream?”

“A dream about staying in a hospital. It felt like a hospital that was both familiar and unfamiliar.”

As he woke up, the memory of the dream began to fade, but he still remembered the hand he had seen.

“Was it a memory from the past?”

“I don’t know. The people in the dream were blurry.”

“Don’t worry about it. You said it yourself, it’s just a dream. It might have been caused by the anesthesia making you sleep too deeply. It’s not worth wearing yourself out over this.”

That’s right—it could just be a dream rather than a memory. Ever since arriving in this world, his previous memories had started to blur. Perhaps this was a side effect of transmigration?

Putting all of this behind him, Li Nuo spent his days eating, sleeping, walking, and using the laptop. Gradually, the scabs on his wounds started to fall off, revealing new skin underneath. It was finally time to be discharged.

“Are you all packed?”

“…Yeah, but how do we have so much stuff?”

Dressed in casual clothes, Li Nuo looked at the piles of bags in front of him with a troubled expression. When they came here, they only had a suitcase, but now they have so much more.

“Let’s take a cab home.”

“I drove the car here.”

“Where did the car come from?”

“The Director said I could borrow it today.”

Li Nuo frowned. So, it is a company car. Is it okay to use it for personal matters?

Forget it—since it’s already here, there’s no need to worry.

“After dropping you off at home, I’ll head back to the office. I’ve already asked for leave. I’ll take the luggage up in several trips. You can wait here, and we’ll leave together on the last trip.”

“We can just go together.”

“No, you shouldn’t be doing heavy lifting right now. Brother He said the same, didn’t he?”

Seeing Li Yan’s stern expression, Li Nuo raised his hands in surrender. “There are lighter bags, you know. I’m not that stubborn.”

With a troubled expression, Li Yan reluctantly agreed and lifted the lighter items to put them aside.

As they were packing, He Yan walked into the hospital room.

“All ready to be discharged?”

“Yes, we’ve almost finished packing.”

He Yan glanced at the belongings on the floor. “You couldn’t really tell when it was all in the cabinet, but it looks like you’ve been settling down here.”

Li Nuo laughed awkwardly. Almost all the belongings were his.

Turning to Li Nuo, He Yan asked, “What about your medication? Have you packed it?”

“It’s packed. It’s in my bag,” Li Nuo said, patting his backpack.

“Don’t forget to take it on time. Once it’s finished, come back to get more. And don’t forget your follow-up checkups.”

“Got it.”

After moving all the luggage, Li Nuo waved goodbye to He Yan, who had accompanied them to the underground parking lot. “Thank you, Brother He, for taking care of me during this time. Goodbye!”

“Don’t visit too many times,” He Yan teased.

……………

Just as they left the parking lot, Li Nuo pulled his coat tighter around himself.

When he was admitted to the hospital, it had been the height of summer. Now that he was discharged, the chilly winds of autumn had arrived.

Autumn winds swept the fallen leaves along the ground. Standing in front of the home he hadn’t seen in a long time, Li Nuo felt a slight sense of unfamiliarity.

Li Yan had cleaned the house a few days ago, so it was spotless inside.

After moving all the luggage upstairs, Li Yan quickly said, “Wait for me to come back to organize everything,” before hurrying off to the company.

Li Nuo began unpacking the parts he could manage and tidying up. Taking out his phone, he glanced at his notes app, which he had been writing in during his free time at the hospital. With plenty of spare time, he decided to go through all the previous contacts the original owner of this body had maintained.

It had been mentioned before that the original owner intentionally strung people along, though all those connections had been severed since he had taken over.

Really now, Li Nuo sighed. Even without that kind of personality, with just that face, life would have been easy.

The first time he saw it in the mirror, he was captivated by its beauty.

He continued scrolling through his phone. Among the people who had stayed in contact, there were some who didn’t seem to be interested in the original owner purely for his looks. Their connection seemed to stem from other reasons.

Now the plot had completely deviated, leaving him with no frame of reference. But one thing was certain—Li Nuo must have done other things in the past.

Even though Li Nuo had no memory of it, someone out there would know the truth.

He opened his messages. In the list of undeleted numbers, there was one person who had been persistently trying to contact him.

The name was… Zhang Wanhui.

At first, there had been a phone call, but at the time, Li Nuo had just arrived in this world and wasn’t in the mood to interact with people the original owner knew.

Since then, this person has occasionally sent text messages.

To prevent Li Yan from seeing, he deliberately locked the messaging app interface.

Now, he unlocked it.

Zhang Wanhui: 【 Let’s meet in person. 】

The message had been sent five days ago.
