Lin Bai blinked at the accusation, finding it somewhat amusing. She asked in return, “Did you see me push you?”
“Someone must have seen it!” Li Gaoyuan was furious, his face flushed red as he shouted. His voice was so loud it was startling. He had almost died!
He was one of the first survivors rescued by Lou Tiannan. Thanks to his small frame and agility, he had his own methods of avoiding zombies. But today, just as he was sprinting toward a hiding spot he had chosen, someone pushed him from behind. The icy touch shoved him straight into the path of the zombies. If it weren’t for Captain Lou’s black flames arriving in time, he would have been dead.
He was nearly killed by this woman named Lin Bai!
He had never made enemies with anyone before, but today, he couldn’t tolerate it. If he let this go, what if she dared to do it again next time?
Li Gaoyuan’s thin chest heaved violently as he clenched his teeth, glaring at Lin Bai with hatred in his eyes.
“Who saw it?” Lin Bai asked calmly.
“That’s none of your concern! Someone must have seen it and that’s enough!”
“Could they have been mistaken?” Song Yan, witnessing the scene, instinctively felt there was some misunderstanding. She hadn’t interacted much with Lin Bai, but she didn’t believe Lin Bai would do such a thing.
“Impossible!” Li Gaoyuan declared firmly. “Officer Song, it was her! She pushed me!”
“My mom would never push anyone!!!” Xi Ya shouted, defending Lin Bai. She refused to believe Lin Bai would do such a thing.
“Lin Bai wouldn’t push someone,” said a survivor from the same group as Lin Bai. They had seen her skills and found it hard to believe she would need to push someone.
Seeing that no one believed him, Li Gaoyuan grew even more furious. “Don’t be fooled by her! If she dares to push me when facing danger today, she’ll dare to push you tomorrow!!!”
“Either bring forth a witness or evidence or shut up!” Lin Bai had no patience for idiots.
“You! You—!!!” Li Gaoyuan was so enraged that his pointing finger trembled.
At that moment, a strong and firm voice rang out, “I saw it!”
Everyone turned to look. The one who spoke was Hu Dingguo and murmurs broke out among the crowd.
Everyone knew he had a son who was a senator in the Federal Parliament. He himself was a teacher and with such credentials, his words carried weight.
“Yes, I saw it too! Lin Bai pushed him!” A voice suddenly chimed in from the corner who turned out to be Li Meng. “She shoved someone out to save herself! She did it on purpo—”
Bang!
A gunshot rang out. A bloody hole appeared on Li Meng’s forehead, blood trickling down. He was already dead, yet his mouth was still slightly open as if he hadn’t finished speaking.
The warehouse fell into complete silence.
Everyone stared at Lin Bai, whose gun was still smoking. No one dared to utter a word.
No one had expected Lin Bai to shoot at that moment. Nor had they expected her to act so swiftly under the eyes of the Federal Army.
Lin Bai cast an indifferent glance at the petrified Li Gaoyuan. She shrugged and said, “If I want someone dead, they’ll die cleanly, like this. Understand?”
Then, she aimed her gun at Hu Dingguo. “Now, it’s your turn. Was it me who pushed him?” Lin Bai asked.
Hu Dingguo tried to maintain his composure. “Lin Bai, my son is a senator. Captain Lou and Vice Captain Zhu are both here. You can’t—”
Bang!
A bullet grazed Hu Dingguo’s ear and struck a shipping container.
The gun’s muzzle was now pointed directly at his forehead.
“For the last time, was it me who pushed him?”
Hu Dingguo hesitated before adjusting his tone, “Perhaps… I was mistaken…”
Before he could say anything more, Lin Bai cut him off. “Then, the price for lying is…”
Bang!
Clang!
Lin Bai’s bullet struck a metal plate.
Some thought Zhou Yu had interfered, but Zhou Yu himself, standing a few meters away helping Lou Tiannan, looked confused. “It wasn’t me!”
Zhou Yu was the only one in the team with metal-based abilities. If it wasn’t him, then that meant…
It was Hu Dingguo.
Just as that thought crossed their minds, a blur of movement caught their eyes. Hu Dingguo was no longer where he had been standing. He had agilely leaped onto the top of a shipping container, glaring down at them with a vicious expression.
“You b*tch! Tonight, I’ll feast on you and your daughter with my wine!”
Lin Bai responded with only two words, “You trash.”
Hu Dingguo, seeing that his ability had already been exposed and noticing Lou Tiannan’s weakened state, became even more brazen. “Lisa, hurry up and finish this quickly! This mother and daughter are mine!”
“Lisa?!” Some survivors still remembered her. “Isn’t she from Blood Bone? Teacher Hu, you—”
Before Li Gaoyuan could finish his sentence, an arrow pierced his throat. Blood gushed from his mouth and nose as he collapsed to the ground.
Suddenly, fierce winds howled around them, carrying a familiar female voice, “Look how impatient you are. Take care of Lou Tiannan first.”
Before their eyes, the winds gathered into a small tornado, hurtling toward Lou Tiannan’s position.
Hu Dingguo thrust out his hands, sending thin metal blades into the whirlwind. The tornado instantly became a razor-sharp slicing weapon. The moment it brushed against the corner of a shipping container, that section was ground into dust.
The tornado moved swiftly, surging straight toward Lou Tiannan. They only saw him lift an arm and push Zhou Yu away before he was completely engulfed.
It was over.
Everyone had the same thought.
“Hahahahaha! Black Flame? Captain Lou? So what?!” Hu Dingguo laughed wildly and then turned his greedy gaze toward Lin Bai. “Now, it’s your turn, b*tch!”
At his command, over a dozen figures leaped out from all directions. Many of them bore twin red wave tattoos in visible spots. Even the slowest among them now understood that Hu Dingguo was part of Blood Bone!
The Blood Bone members targeted the Federal Army’s ability users, while three of them advanced toward Lin Bai.
Lin Bai withdrew her gaze from the tornado and gave Xi Ya a small push to the side, whispering, “Wherever I throw something, you release your ability there. Got it?”
“Got it!” Xi Ya didn’t know what Lin Bai planned to throw, but Lin Bai was never wrong.
She saw Lin Bai raise her hand and fling something toward the three approaching enemies. Without hesitation, Xi Ya unleashed her flames. The moment those objects brushed against the fire, they ignited instantly, transforming into small fireballs that landed on the Blood Bone members. Fueled by the strong winds, the flames rapidly spread.
“Aaaah!!!” The burning men shrieked and writhed on the ground.
Hu Dingguo’s eyes flashed with murderous intent. He raised his hand, sending dozens of blades shooting toward Lin Bai. “I was going to spare you, but now you’ll die too.”
Lin Bai tossed something to Xi Ya, rolled to the ground, and fired two shots in return. “You should worry about whether you’ll survive first, trash!”
Hu Dingguo leaped onto another shipping container, dodging the bullets.
But Lin Bai’s aim was precise, as if she had predicted his landing spot. The moment he touched down, he was forced to jump again, only to see that bullets were already heading toward his next landing point. If he landed, he’d be shot!
‘Damn it! How the hell is she this accurate?!’
That was all he had time to think before he swiftly pulled a metal plate in front of himself.
Once airborne, he had no choice but to use his ability to block the shot.
Bang!
A dull thud rang out as the bullet struck the metal plate.
The impact forced Hu Dingguo back a step. He glared at Lin Bai viciously. “Now it’s my turn!”
Like Tyke, Hu Dingguo was a metal-based ability user from the Blood Bone. However, he differed from Tyke in that he had more refined control over his energy, using minimal power to unleash the same level of attack.
After exchanging a few blows, Lin Bai understood that he was slightly smarter than the brute-force Tyke.
But to her, they were both idiots.
Hu Dingguo kept moving along the shipping containers, while Lin Bai stayed on the ground, using blind spots to evade his attacks.
Gunfire and the sound of slicing metal filled the air.
Bang!
Another shot rang out.
Hu Dingguo quickly jumped to another container, smirking. “Out of bullets, aren’t you?” He had counted that her modified Browning held a maximum of ten rounds and that last shot had been her tenth.
Lin Bai pulled the trigger a few times, but no bullets came out. She admitted openly, “Yeah, I’m out.”
“Then it’s your time to die!” Hu Dingguo sneered.
Around Lin Bai, the energy he had left behind rose up, forming countless sharp blades in midair. There was nowhere for her to escape.
“Goodbye, then,” Lin Bai waved at him.
“What do you mean?!” Hu Dingguo sensed something was wrong. Why was she so calm?
“Exactly what I said, idiot.”
A chill ran down Hu Dingguo’s spine. He abandoned his attack and instinctively summoned metal plates to shield himself. But the moment his defense formed—
Boom!
An explosion erupted beneath him. The deafening blast, searing heat, and immense shockwave sent him hurtling into the air before he crashed to the ground like a sack of meat.
‘When did she plant a grenade?!’
Hu Dingguo’s mind spun with disbelief.
Before he could process it, a foot stomped down on his head. Lin Bai drew another gun from her waist and pointed it at him.
“Lisa!!!” He shouted desperately, his bloodied mouth gaping wide.
He hoped Lisa would save him. But in the next second, the tornado erupted with a blazing inferno. Black flames surged skyward, piercing through the wind and spreading along its path.
Hidden in the shadows, Lisa coughed up a mouthful of blood before Lou Tiannan struck her down with a sudden kick.
‘What’s going on?!’
Both Hu Dingguo and Lisa were stunned. ‘Wasn’t he supposed to be in his susceptibility period? How was his power still this strong?!’
Lisa watched in horror as Lou Tiannan tore the ‘inhibitor patch’ from his neck. Without it, his gland was clearly in normal condition. There was no sign of swelling that came with susceptibility periods.
Lisa immediately understood. “You faked it?! You knew we were among your ranks?!”
Lou Tiannan showed no trace of weakness or loss of control. His every move made it clear. She had fallen into a trap out of sheer impatience.
“No sh*t. We were just waiting for you to take the bait,” Zhou Yu said smugly.
Lisa’s heart sank. That meant their ambushers outside…
Her fears were confirmed as Zhu Liang, Lu Jia, and the others entered through the warehouse’s main doors. Outside, Blood Bone’s forces lay in a heap, defeated.
Lisa was utterly crushed.
Hu Dingguo still clung to a sliver of hope. He spoke rapidly to Lin Bai, “I’m Qiu Tu’s man. If you kill—”
Bang!
A clean shot ended his words forever.
Seeing Hu Dingguo’s fate, Lisa tilted her head back and let out a cold laugh. “I was careless! But Qiu Tu won’t let you off!”
With that, she grabbed a metal shard from the ground and slit her own throat, ending her life without hesitation.
“Tch, she’s ruthless even to herself…” Zhou Yu clicked his tongue, shaking his head. Then his gaze caught something.
A gun barrel was aimed directly at Lou Tiannan.
His eyes widened in alarm.
“Lin Bai! What are you doing?! Don’t be impulsive!”
