Upon hearing the order, the Blood Bone members immediately sprang into action. They had no shred of humanity and knowing there were ordinary people inside the Federal Army’s transport truck, they charged straight for it, triggering screams from within.
When they spotted a child inside, their excitement intensified. Someone’s eyes gleamed with undisguised hunger. “It’s been so long since I’ve had a taste of a child’s flesh! Lately, all I’ve been eating is tough, stringy meat. Hurts my teeth!”
“Yeah!” A few of them leered at Xi Ya with filthy, predatory gazes, making their move without hesitation.
But Lou Tiannan’s soldiers weren’t pushovers. They leaped forward, blocking Blood Bone’s assault and doing everything they could to protect the survivors.
Meanwhile, Tyke had a clear target and he charged straight at Lin Bai.
Lou Tiannan reached out to stop him, but a sudden gust of wind blurred his vision.
Wind blades whipped up sand and gravel, forming deadly weapons as they slashed toward Lou Tiannan. Lisa was nowhere to be seen, but her voice rang out, “Captain Lou, your opponent is me now!”
As she spoke, the wind blades grew fiercer. Lisa’s ability was clearly above the others. Lou Tiannan barely had time to shove Lin Bai behind him before raising his arms to defend himself.
Even though he was trying to shield Lin Bai, Lisa’s whirlwind surrounded him, giving Tyke an opening.
His cold eyes locked onto the woman before him, who barely reached his shoulder. She was a powerless Beta. Yet she had dared to shoot at him!
The bruises on his arm hadn’t even faded yet. He could never forget the fear that the bullet had instilled in him. It reminded him of things he preferred to forget.
The fear she had caused him made it impossible for him to sleep.
And now, he was going to personally eliminate its source.
His fist swung toward Lin Bai.
She tilted her head just in time, the punch brushing past her cheek, ruffling the loose strands of hair at her temple.
Tyke knew some hand-to-hand combat and had impressive strength, but Lin Bai was as slippery as an eel.
She dodged every strike narrowly, but she dodged nonetheless.
After several failed attempts, Tyke’s patience ran out. He conjured two iron plates on either side of Lin Bai, cutting off any possible escape routes.
This time, he finally caught her.
His rough fingers clenched around Lin Bai’s throat, slamming her hard against the iron plate. Blood trickled from the corner of her lips.
At the sight of blood, Tyke’s excitement surged. He grinned viciously, staring down at her as if she were an insect. “B*tch, you’re finally going to pay the price for your actions.”
Despite his suffocating grip, Lin Bai showed no sign of pain. Her gaze remained calm as she met Tyke’s eyes. “Then your price will be even higher, Hanley.”
Tyke froze, his fingers tightening instinctively.
His real name was Hanley Tyno.
After committing multiple murders and arson, he changed his name countless times to evade capture. The most widely known alias was Tyke, the name under which he had been sentenced to death by the Federal Supreme Court before the apocalypse.
But fate had been kind to him. Three days before his scheduled execution, the apocalypse arrived. He awakened his ability, slaughtered every guard in the highest-security federal prison, and escaped.
Later, he met Qiu Tu and the others. They hit it off immediately and he joined Blood Bone. By consuming zombie crystals, he rapidly strengthened his ability, rising to become a core member.
For a year and a half, he had gotten everything he wanted. His greed and desires had been indulged to the fullest.
No one knew his real name.
And yet, this unknown woman had just spoken it.
“Who the hell are you?” Tyke’s eyes locked onto Lin Bai, his mind racing to figure out her identity.
“The one who’s going to kill you,” Lin Bai replied, her expression still warm and unthreatening.
But at some point, a short blade had appeared in her hand and she stabbed it toward a critical spot on Tyke’s body.
His arm hardened into steel, blocking her attack with ease.
“Just you?” Tyke sneered, clenching his fist and driving it into Lin Bai’s abdomen.
He smirked in satisfaction as Lin Bai nearly blacked out from the force of the blow. His grin turned cruel, his bloodlust evident. “I don’t know how you found out my name, but remember this. I’m the one killing you.”
A short metal arrow formed in his hand and he drove it toward Lin Bai’s head.
“Mom!”
Xi Ya’s terrified scream rang out nearby and a burst of flames flared in front of Tyke.
But to him, the little fire was nothing. He batted it aside with ease and flung an iron rod at the tiny girl who barely reached his knee.
Song Yan, quick as lightning, tackled Xi Ya to the ground, shielding her from the deadly projectile.
Tyke didn’t care that he missed. The small fry could be dealt with by others. Right now, his priority was to kill her.
This woman had hurt him. She even knew his real name. She could not be allowed to live.
Murder gleamed openly in his eyes.
Lou Tiannan, sensing Lin Bai’s predicament, tried to rush to her aid. But Lisa’s windstorm held him back.
Black flames roared to life around him as he fought his way toward Lin Bai but he was too far away…
The Federal Army’s ability users were all locked in battle with Blood Bone. No one could spare a hand to help.
Everyone watched in horror as Tyke, grinning savagely, drove his short sword toward Lin Bai’s chest.
Song Yan, Zhu Liang, and the others sprinted toward her, but—
Clang!
At the critical moment, a black blade blocked the short sword. No one knew what material the black blade was made of, but the sword tip couldn’t pierce through it.
Lin Bai, who had closed her eyes, had unknowingly opened them. In the blink of an eye, another black blade slashed toward Tyke. Startled, he instinctively dodged backward.
The iron-clad arm that had been restraining Lin Bai’s neck loosened and she swiftly crouched down, slipping out of his grasp. Moving at lightning speed, she turned and slashed at Tyke again.
He hadn’t expected that after taking his heavy punch, she could still move so fast. The black blade grazed his arm, leaving a bloody mark.
Lou Tiannan let out a small breath of relief at the sight.
“Sh*t!” Tyke roared in fury. This was the second time Lin Bai had injured him. His dark, muscular body tensed with rage. Using the same tactic, he clapped his hands together, summoning iron plates to trap Lin Bai in an unbreakable cage.
He wanted to take her back and torture her to death.
But this time, due to his injury, his energy didn’t recover as quickly. Before his ability could fully manifest the iron plates, Lin Bai kicked his wrist, disrupting his power.
Abandoning the iron plates, he grabbed an arrow and thrust it at Lin Bai, but he was slower than her.
As they brushed past each other, Lin Bai’s voice whispered in his ear, “Hanley, how does the X112 alkaline compound feel?”
Tyke froze. A deep, buried fear surfaced in his mind. A phantom pain spread through his organs as if his body remembered something horrifying. For just a moment, his movements faltered.
Lin Bai’s eyes sharpened. Now!
The hilt of her blade spun in her grip, creating a flash of steel. With no hesitation, she drove the tip of her weapon straight at Tyke.
He grabbed her wrist, a triumphant grin forming on his lips. He was just about to speak when he noticed Lin Bai smiling back at him with an eerie, unsettling smile.
In the next instant, her right wrist twisted at an unnatural angle within his grip, the black blade in her palm lunging straight at his face.
Tyke quickly raised his other hand to block it.
A sickening squelch echoed.
His whole body trembled. For a split second, his mind went blank before searing pain exploded through his skull.
The attack from her right hand had been a feint. The real strike came from her left.
The black blade had pierced the back of his neck.
Right where his gland was.
A spot his ability couldn’t protect.
Half of the knife’s blade was buried inside.
“AHHHH!!!” Tyke howled in agony, swinging his fists wildly.
Lin Bai used the force from his attack to flip over his back, pushing the blade even deeper.
“B*tch!!!” Tyke roared, his rage driving him into a frenzy. He tried to summon his ability, but with his gland critically damaged, he could no longer focus enough to activate it.
But he refused to accept this! He had to—
“ARGH!” Another scream tore from his throat.
Lin Bai had severed one of his arms. Blood splattered onto her face, the warm crimson liquid dripping from her chin.
Her gaze was icy cold as she stared at him, driving the black blade inch by inch deeper into his neck.
She looked him in the eye and said, “You’re out of chances.”
Tyke collapsed. With his remaining hand, he weakly clutched Lin Bai’s collar. His vision blurred as he stared into her frozen gaze.
For a fleeting moment, that look seemed strangely familiar.
As if he had seen it before.
Through a glass window…
Surrounded by people in white coats…
He had been shackled, awaiting interrogation…
Lin Bai’s eyes overlapped with another woman’s in his fading consciousness.
And then he remembered.
“It’s… it’s you…” His voice trembled with disbelief, unwillingness, and shock.
But it was too late.
A brief flicker of clarity crossed his eyes before they dulled completely. His fingers slackened, his blood-stained hand sinking into the muddy ground.
His life ended there.
“Tyke?” Lisa called out in shock.
But only Lin Bai, stained with blood, stood up. Tyke, a man as massive as a mountain, lay motionless on the ground.
Lisa hadn’t expected this. No—no one had.
A Beta without ability…
Had just killed an A-rank ability user.
Tyke was dead.
A ripple of fear ran through the Blood Bone members.
On the other side, Lou Tiannan had pinpointed the core of the wind formation and was just about to take Lisa down—
A bell chimed.
A distant, eerie ringing echoed faintly.
Through the misty rain, a group of figures approached. They walked slowly, each holding a small bell. They wore white ceremonial robes with hoods that obscured their faces.
The moment Blood Bone members saw them, their expressions changed drastically.
The black market hunters had long since fled during the battle. Lisa, her fox-like eyes narrowing, leaned toward Lou Tiannan, raising a delicate finger toward him. But before she could touch him, the black flames around his body forced her to retreat.
She wasn’t upset. Instead, she chuckled seductively. “Captain Lou, this isn’t how you win an Omega’s heart. It was nice seeing you, but some unwelcome guests have arrived. I suppose we’ll have to meet again next time.”
As soon as she finished speaking, a powerful gust of wind surged.
Blood Bone’s members vanished without a trace.
Only Tyke’s corpse remained, proof that they had been there.
Some survivors, their faces streaked with tears and blood, turned to look at the approaching figures in the distance.
As they recognized the attire those figures wore, their expressions of fear and despair slowly shifted to overwhelming relief.
