It's still ongoing with currently only 30+ chapters. The story is very lightweight. The combat isn't too detailed, but it is still enjoyable to immerse in after a stressful day of work. BOOK 4: Point Activities

Collect twenty thousand Monster Points.

Defeat the Black Dragon on the 120th floor.

Either way, it turned out that pacifying the monsters was going to be quite a difficult task.

“Anyway, Kachua, just save up as many Monster Points as you can. Meanwhile, we’ll build up our strength and aim for the upper floors so we can defeat the Black Dragon on the 120th floor, okay?”

Ann summed up the discussion.

“Yes, please do that” Kachua requested.

She did not feel confident that she could save up twenty thousand points but Kachua still wanted to do her best.

She was especially worried about her husband, Alan, who was in the borderlands.

***

“Kachua.”

“Ah, Jessica. Welcome back.”

When she returned home from the dungeon, there stood Jessica, their lodger. It was rare to see her at home at this hour, since she was usually so busy.

“I heard about the borderlands. They said it’s been designated a restricted zone?”

“Yeah, that’s right.”

It seemed she had rushed over out of worry for Kachua and the others.

Jessica stayed to have dinner with them, and after putting the children to bed, they decided to have a little drink together as adults.

Jessica opened the bottle of white wine she had brought and sipped it slowly.

“Thanks for coming all the way here”

“No, I’m sorry for not being able to do anything. You must be worried about Alan.”

Alan, who was in the borderlands, sent a letter once every three months, and that was all. Kachua and the others had no information at all about what the situation was like over there right now.

“Yeah, but I’m going to do my best!”

“…? Do your best at what?”

Her enthusiasm didn’t sound like she was just talking about protecting the house in Alan’s place.

Jessica couldn’t help but ask Kachua.

“Umm..” Kachua thought hard.

Even though Jessica was a former team member, she couldn’t just talk about the royal family’s legend without Bernhardt’s permission.

After agonizing over it, Kachua finally said,

“…I’m going to do my best to reach the 120th floor.”

“What, the 120th floor?”

“Yes. I’m going to work hard and defeat the Black Dragon.”

Since slaying the Black Dragon was a special quest from the Adventurer’s Guild, it wasn’t strange for her to set it as her goal.

In response to Kachua’s declaration, Jessica said,

“The Black Dragon, huh. Well, if Lord Bernhardt and Ann-senpai are with you, you might be able to reach the 120th floor, but the Black Dragon is truly dangerous.”

“Yeah, Ann and the others told me before that they once tried to slay the Black Dragon and failed.”

Even those two, who were incredibly strong, couldn’t win even when they teamed up. Kachua knew it was a formidable enemy.

“I see… so you’ve heard about that.”

Jessica gazed out the window as if lost in thought.

Outside, night had already fallen completely.

The pitch-black darkness reminded her of the jet-black scales of the Black Dragon they had once faced.

“Back then, the reason the two of them couldn’t defeat the Black Dragon was because of me.”

“What? Really?”

“Yes. I was hit by the Black Dragon’s dark breath, and I was about to turn into a monster because of it…”

Kachua was so shocked that she nearly jumped.

“What, a m-monster?”

“That’s right. The Black Dragon’s dark breath, said to be the shadow of the Dark God, has the power to turn living beings into monsters.”

“Scary!”

“That’s why it’s designated as a special quest target for extermination.”

“And you were okay in the end, right, Jessica?”

“Yes, because they treated me quickly.”

“Thank goodness.”

Kachua let out a sigh of relief.

Jessica spoke in a serious tone.

“Back then, we were just about to defeat the Black Dragon. But the two of them stopped fighting and saved me instead. That’s why they’re truly my benefactors.”

“I see.”

“After that, before they could launch a second attack on the Black Dragon, Lord Bernhardt’s location was discovered by His Majesty the King, and he had to return to the royal palace in a hurry. Ann-senpai went with him. That’s when the team disbanded.”

“I didn’t know that.”

When they parted ways, the two of them gave Jessica plenty of treasure that would be useful for adventuring.

Using those, Jessica was able to become independent as an adventurer.

“Kachua, you be careful too. Absolutely no recklessness.”

Jessica warned in a grave voice.

“Yeah, I understand.”

Kachua had precious children and a beloved husband.

Besides, Gamma Team was only on the thirty-eighth floor right now. Reaching the 120th floor was still a very distant goal. To be honest, it didn’t feel very real yet. Of course, she fully intended to get there.

“Oh, how is everyone at the Garfa Trading Company doing?”

“They’re doing well. Why do you ask?”

“They were the ones who made beast-ear headbands popular, right? If you get the chance to meet them, could you tell them that everyone in Gamma Team is grateful?”

It was something the team had been talking about together.

She was glad she happened to meet Jessica at just the right time.

“I’ll tell them. Actually, I have a message from Mr. Garfa for you and the others.”

“What is it?”

“Ahem.”

Jessica cleared her throat and said, “『As a merchant, I never would have come up with the idea of beast-ear headbands. I am sincerely grateful to Mr. Og’s elder sister』. That’s what he said.”

“Got it. I’ll pass it along.”

With that, Jessica and Kachua’s little one-on-one drinking session came to an end, but Kachua didn’t go to sleep. Instead, she started rummaging through the cupboard.

“Let’s see… sewing box, sewing box.”

“Huh? You’re going to do something now?”

“I was thinking of fixing this stuffed animal.”

What Kachua showed Jessica was a palm-sized little teddy bear.

Its belly had been roughly torn open with stuffing spilling out, and one of its ears and an eye looked like they might fall off at any moment.

“What’s this?”

“The thirty-eighth floor is the Fairy Tale Area, right? When you fight the monsters on that floor, you can get a drop item called《Tattered Stuffed Animal》.”

“Oh, that’s right.”

The《Tattered Stuffed Animal》had dropped from a Stuffed Bear monster—Nui Bear—that Ann had defeated.

The rare drop item from Nui Bear was the《Clean Teddy Bear》, which could be sold for a high price at the item shop, but this one was its second normal drop.

Frankly speaking, it was trash, but—

“I thought I’d fix it because it’s cute.”

For some reason, Kachua had taken a liking to it and asked Ann to let her have it. Though Ann had tilted her head suspiciously and said,『You really want this one?』she still handed Kachua the《Tattered Stuffed Animal》.

“This color should work.”

Kachua held some leftover fabric from the house up against the stuffed animal to check the color match.

Originally, she had only meant to check the household stock and see if she needed to buy anything extra in town tomorrow, but since everything she needed was already there, she ended up starting the work right away.

She cut the fabric with scissors and stitched it carefully with matching thread.

Jessica, for no particular reason, quietly watched the entire process.

Before long, Kachua said,『It’s done』and held the stuffed animal up for Jessica to see.

“Let’s see… oh, that turned out really well, didn’t it?”

The tattered stuffed animal had been repaired so skillfully that Jessica couldn’t help but praise it. It looked practically brand new.

“Barbara will be happy” Jessica said, but Kachua shook her head.

“I just asked her, and she said she『doesn’t want it』.”

“Ahh.”

Jessica gave a wry smile. Barbara was the type of child who didn’t care for the cute things that most girls tended to like.

“Well, I’ll ask her again later.”

But as a mother, Kachua could tell. That reaction had been the kind you gave when you truly didn’t want something.

“That’s a shame.”

“It’s fine, I’ll use it myself. And I still have plenty more, so I’m planning to put them up at the next bazaar.”

“There are really that many stuffed-animal drop items?”

“Yeah, about ten.”

Gamma Team had been tearing through the enemies one after another without stopping, so Kachua’s backpack now held more than ten of the《Tattered Stuffed Animal》 drops.

Incidentally, the first normal drop item from Nui Bear was a children’s tonic recovery potion (strawberry flavor).

That one was in high demand, so it could be sold to the item shop for a good price.

“How does it look? Cute?”

Kachua attached a string to the back of the repaired stuffed animal’s neck and fastened it to her beloved backpack. The teddy bear charm was complete.

“Cute, cute” Jessica praised.

The backpack was the long-desired one Kachua had received for free from the Garfa Tool Shop after the battle with《Rare-Rare Mushroom Deluxe》. It had a magic bag function and could hold far more than it appeared.

“Thanks. Well, if Barbara doesn’t want it, I’ll take it then.”

And so Kachua and Jessica’s little drinking session came to an end.

“Good night!”

“Good night!”

These two might have looked perfectly fine at first glance, but they really weren’t. They were quite drunk.

Neither of them noticed that the needle Kachua had used to repair the stuffed animal was still stuck in the teddy bear’s body…
