What followed was a flurry of activity.
“We can’t just sit around! I’ve gotta go tell Cliff!”
Jessica frantically began preparing to leave.
Cliff was the man they’d met yesterday—the leader of Jessica’s team.
Incidentally, their team name was『Leopard Corps of the Falling Snow』.
“Ah, take care~”
Kachua called out casually, but Jessica spun on her heel and shot back:
“What are you saying!? Get your team together too, Kachua!”
“Eh? But today’s our day off.”
“Doesn’t matter! Everyone meet at Garfa’s Tool Shop in two hours!”
And with that, Jessica dashed out of the house.
Kachua didn’t fully understand what was going on but she decided to get in touch with her teammates anyway.
On her days off, Laura usually volunteered at the church, using her recovery magic.
Sure enough, when Kachua arrived at the church, she found Laura there and Rick was with her, tagging along.
“Ah, Kachua-san.”
“What’s going on?”
“Actually, a friend asked me to gather the team.”
Kachua explained the situation to the two of them.
“Then I’ll go let Og and Ann-san know.”
“That’d be a big help, thanks.”
Rick agreed cheerfully, though he did tilt his head in confusion.
“Still, why are we all being called together?”
“That’s the thing—I have no idea~”
Two hours later, the Gamma Team gathered at Garfa’s Tool Shop.
Garfa’s was the largest store in the labyrinth city of Loa in terms of floor space.
It had everything an adventurer could need—supplies, armor, weapons, magical equipment—you name it.
Waiting in front of the store was Jessica’s teammate, Cliff.
“We’ve been expecting you. Right this way.”
He led Kachua and her party into the store.
Being such a massive building, Garfa’s Tool Shop even had elevators.
And the elevator stopped at—of all places—the top floor.
“Wait, is this… the VIP floor?”
“Looks like it.”
It was the VIP floor, a dream destination for adventurers—accessible only to top-tier customers ranked B-rank or higher.
They walked down a hallway lined with red carpet and were shown into a room.
“This is a fitting room for adventurers.”
Inside was a huge space—big enough to dance in.
The center was wide open and the walls were lined with large mirrors.
It had a luxurious, elegant atmosphere.
Kachua thought,『So this is what the fitting rooms in a high-end dress boutique must look like』.
Of course, she’d never actually been to one.
Lined up in the room were mannequins wearing adventurer-grade armor and on the opposite side of the room, a table displayed an array of weapons.
“Kachua, I’ve been waiting for you.”
Jessica was already inside the room.
“Jessica, I brought everyone.”
Kachua followed instructions exactly, though she couldn’t help but feel wildly out of place. She leaned in and whispered quietly to Jessica.
“Thank you, Kachua. Nice to meet you, members of the Gamma Team. I’m Jessica of the Leopard Corps of the Falling Snow. I’m a friend of Kachua’s. And this is my team leader, Cliff.”
Jessica introduced herself formally to the members of Gamma Team.
Standing beside her, Cliff gave them a polite nod and said,
“Pleasure to meet you.”
Hearing that she was Kachua’s friend seemed to ease the tension for the team—at least a little. All except for Ann, who was still as calm and unreadable as ever.
“You’re a friend of Kachua-san’s?”
“Nice to meet you.”
“…Sup.”
The team returned the greeting one by one.
And then, Jessica hit them with a bombshell request.
“I’ll get straight to the point—I need you all to reach the 30th floor of the dungeon within a week. Preferably… within three days.”
***
“Wait—the 30th floor!?”
“Th-thir…”
Rick and the others gasped in shock.
“Impossible”
Laura said flatly and no one could blame her.
After all, Kachua and her team had only just reached the 25th floor.
“I know it’s a crazy ask. But please listen! Rare Week starts today!”
“Ah, so that’s what this is about.”
Ann instantly grasped the situation upon hearing that.
Jessica gave a firm nod toward her.
“Yes, senpai. We can’t afford to miss this chance.”
“Um, what are you guys talking about…?”
Still trying to catch up, Rick looked to Ann for an explanation.
“They’re after the Rare-Rare Mushroom too.”
“Wait, really?”
“The Rare-Rare Mushroom…”
Og murmured softly, eyes narrowing as if recalling an old memory.
“The Rare-Rare Mushroom is a mushroom-type monster found on the 30th floor. But its spawn rate is so low, our team couldn’t get it to drop anything. So please—Gamma Team, come with us to the 30th floor.”
Jessica bowed her head deeply before them.
It was such a sudden and outrageous request that the Gamma Team could only flounder in confusion.
“Um, Jessica-san, was it? Our team’s only made it as far as the 25th floor. Reaching five floors deeper in a week is… well, it’s just not realistic.”
Rick’s response was completely reasonable.
“You don’t have to worry about that. Cliff and I will personally guide you to the 30th floor.”
According to Jessica, since their team had already reached the 30th floor, they could use Teleportation Magic to go there directly.
Still… it was the kind of proposal that could only be called outrageous—bordering on the unbelievable.
There were quests where adventurers were hired to escort non-combatants like scholars to the upper layers of the dungeon but in those cases, it was standard practice for the escorting adventurers to outnumber the ones being protected.
In contrast, Gamma Team only had five members and their so-called escorts were just Jessica and Cliff.
“Jessica, don’t tell me your team only has two people. Why aren’t the others coming along?”
Ann asked, skeptical.
“Just in case”
Jessica prefaced, then explained.
The skill 【Housewife】 was something entirely new to her—something she’d never seen or heard of before and there were still too many unknowns.
“If the activation condition for Rare Week includes the number of people accompanying Kachua, then taking too many along might actually prevent it from triggering. And… it’s also to protect Kachua’s secret.”
Jessica did trust her team but since they were officially employed by Garfa, they were obligated to report anything relevant to their mission.
As Kachua’s friend, Jessica wanted to keep the nature of her skill hidden as much as possible.
“We’ll do everything we can to guide you safely. But… you all haven’t reached the level where you’d normally attempt the 30th floor. This mission will be dangerous.”
Heading to a floor above your recommended level was basically a gamble with your life.
Anything could happen.
“Even so… we’re asking you to take this on. Please, we’re begging you.”
Jessica and Cliff bowed deeply before the Gamma Team.
“…What do we do?”
Ann turned to the rest of the team.
“Even if you ask us that, it’s all so sudden…”
“Wait—those people… Are they the ones from yesterday’s summons?”
Og asked and Ann scratched her head sheepishly.
“Sorry, sorry, I forgot to explain. You’re right. These two are the representatives for that designated quest. I accepted the request for『gathering Rare-Rare Mushroom』without checking with you all. I thought we could probably handle it. But—”
Ann’s expression grew serious as she looked around at each member in turn.
“The 30th floor is beyond our current capability. I didn’t agree to taking you all into danger. So I want you to know—you can say no.”
Rick and Laura both took a moment to think before responding.
“…But if that Rare Week thing Kachua mentioned really started, then yeah, this might be our best chance to encounter the Rare-Rare Mushroom.”
“It’s a window of opportunity.”
“If we do manage to get more than one sliced Rare-Rare Mushroom… could we keep one for ourselves?”
Normally, a gathering-type quest requires turning over everything you collect on the mission.
But if they were allowed to keep one, it would bring them a step closer to creating the Supreme Status Ailment Recovery Potion.
That wouldn’t be a bad deal for Gamma Team, either.
“We’d prefer to buy up everything you collect, of course…but if you have a request, we can accommodate. Even just one will be enough for us”
Cliff agreed sincerely.
“So… you’re after the Rare-Rare Mushroom too?”
Og asked, this time directing the question not to his own teammates, but to Jessica.
“That’s right”
she confirmed.
“Why?”
Jessica shook her head gently at Og’s direct question.
“I’m sorry. I can’t tell you that. But—”
She raised her head and looked Og straight in the eye.
“There’s someone who desperately needs it. And we have to get it… as soon as possible.”
