- Chapter 31 - Designated Quest, Part 1
“Eh!?”
There was a quest corner on the first floor of the Adventurer’s Guild and it was packed with request forms posted one after another, listing tasks adventurers were being asked to undertake.
Adventurers would choose and accept quests from those posted request forms.
A designated quest, as the name suggests, is a quest specifically assigned to a particular team.
Designated quests are not posted on the quest board but are instead directly communicated to the team via a receptionist.
It’s not particularly rare—once you’ve done a few jobs and become familiar, clients often say things like『I’ll be counting on you again』and such connections naturally form into designated quests.
But what surprised Kachua and the others was that this time, the Adventurer’s Guild itself had stepped in as an intermediary for the request.
Normally, quests are transactions between the client and the contractor and the Adventurer’s Guild merely provides the venue—remaining neutral.
Of course, if a problem arises that the involved parties can’t resolve themselves, the Adventurer’s Guild may intervene, but that would be after the fact. Whether or not a team accepts a quest is entirely their decision.
Due to the inherent risks that come with quests, the judgment is left entirely to the team.
To maintain neutrality, the Adventurer’s Guild almost never asks teams to『please accept this quest』.
But『almost never』still means that it occasionally happens.
“So, what kind of request is it?”
Ann asked, and the department chief coughed awkwardly.
“I can’t reveal the client’s name or the contents of the request. Could you at least meet with their representative once?”
—It was ridiculously shady.
“Forget the contents, you’re not even going to tell us the name of the client?”
Rick asked, equally surprised.
Designated quests are usually personally assigned to a specific team. If they couldn’t even reveal the name of the client, then this had to be seriously…
Laura frowned and said,
“…This request sounds suspicious.”
“Yeah, it’s shady.”
“I wanna say no.”
The rest agreed.
“Alright, then let’s go ahead and refu—”
Ann started to decline on behalf of the group, but the department chief hastily stopped her.
“You’re absolutely right! But the client isn’t a shady person, I assure you! It’s just… there are some circumstances, and they can’t give their name. Please! Just meet with their representative once!”
The Quest Department chief bowed his head so low it was almost touching the table.
A full-on『pleasepleaseplease』mode.
The receptionist standing beside him looked on with teary, worried eyes.
While the group had never had much to do with the department chief, he was far too high up. They were always helped by the receptionists.
“…Just once, then.”
Moved by the desperation of the two, Kachua and her team ended up agreeing before they realized it.

Afterward, through the department chief, they were arranged to meet the client’s representative.
The specified location was a quiet area slightly away from the center of the labyrinth city Loa—a somewhat upscale, hidden-away kind of restaurant.
Kachua and Ann entered the restaurant at the appointed time.
“Right this way, please.”
An elderly man at the front of the restaurant guided them inside.
Only two people were allowed to meet the representative.
Naturally, that meant the older and more experienced members. Ann and Kachua were the best choice.
The meeting had been set right around dinnertime.
Since Kachua had asked her fellow housing complex mom-friend, Nancy, to look after the kids, she felt at ease even if things ran late.
Instead of taking them through the main dining area, the front staff guided Kachua and Ann through a small side passage and into a private room.
It was likely a courtesy to avoid being seen by other guests.
Knock knock, the man gently tapped on the door and called out inside.
“Your guests have arrived.”
“Come in.”
A composed, dignified woman’s voice responded from within.
The moment Kachua heard that voice, she thought, “Huh?”
That voice…she’d definitely heard it somewhere before…
As she puzzled over it, the front staff said,『Excuse me』and opened the door. Kachua and Ann stepped into the private room.
And the one waiting inside was—
“Eh, Jessica!?”
“Kachua? What are you doing here? And… Anneria-senpai!?”
The woman who stood up from her seat in surprise was none other than Jessica—the adventurer who boarded at Kachua’s home.

“Why are you with Anneria-senpai, Kachua!?”
Jessica shouted, clearly worked up.
“Hey now, keep it down, will you?”
She was quickly scolded by the man sitting next to her.
He looked to be about the same age as Jessica. With a solid, rugged build typical of an adventurer, he was most likely a teammate of hers.
The man turned toward Kachua and Ann, bowing his head politely.
“Thank you for coming. Please, have a seat.”
“Thanks.”
“We’ll take you up on that.”
“Um, Kachua, Anneria-senpai—”
Jessica started to say something, but Ann cut her off, glaring sharply at the man.
“First, tell us your employer’s name. We’re not talking until then.”
“That’s…”
The man hesitated—clearly, he hadn’t been given permission to disclose it.
“…It’s Mr. Rupert Garfa.”
Jessica answered in his place.
“Jessica!” the man snapped at her in panic.
“It’s fine. We can trust them. They won’t leak our situation to anyone.”
“Rupert Garfa… That bigshot tycoon in this city, right?”
In the labyrinth city of Loa, Rupert Garfa was a name everyone knew. A wealthy merchant, owner of the Garfa Trading Company, he ran shops in every type of business imaginable.
From large-scale general stores and weapon shops to magic item stores—he had it all, and of course, had strong ties with the Adventurer’s Guild as well.
“We’re an exclusive adventurer team under Mr. Garfa’s employ.”
An exclusive team means one that doesn’t take on quests from anyone else.
“Jessica, what’s your team rank?”
“B-rank.”
“Oh wow, that’s impressive.”
Though they’d been friends for years, Kachua had never really been involved in adventuring, so she’d never asked about Jessica’s team rank or those kinds of details.
“So, what does a B-rank team like yours want with us C-rankers?”
“That’s…”
“Why don’t we eat first? It’s on us, so please feel free to order anything you like” the man offered.
“Oh yeah? Then I’ll have the supreme marbled Mo-mo beef course. Extra large.”
“…You really don’t hold back, senpai.”
