When Kachua and her team returned from the dungeon, it was later than usual, nearly time to pick up her child from daycare.

Oh no… Kachua thought.

“Kachua, go ahead and pick them up first.”

“We’ll handle the rest.”

“Thanks for your hard work.”

“See you in two days.”

Grateful for her teammates’ understanding, Kachua took their offer and headed home. “Thanks! I really appreciate it!” she called out as she parted ways with her party.

Two days later, when the team gathered again, Kachua heard something unbelievable.

“Promotion to C-rank!? Our team?”

Usually, they met at the Adventurers’ Guild, and once everyone was present, they’d head out with a “Let’s go!” But this time, they were led to the meeting room on the second floor, with a mysterious, “We need to talk before heading to the dungeon.”

“Wait, here? Are we even allowed in?”

The second floor had several meeting rooms, some open to anyone and others restricted to higher-ranked parties, with lavish decor.

Isn’t this room for C-rank or above only…? As she was thinking this, Rick spoke up. “Kachua-san, we’ve been promoted to C-rank.”

“What? How?” Kachua asked in disbelief.

Laura, meanwhile, passed her a menu. “Kachua, we can order tea here.”

“Wait, there’s no price listed?”

“The first cup’s free.”

C-rank… incredible.

“Then I’ll have the royal milk tea, please!” Kachua ordered, surprised that a server even brought it to her.

Once everyone had their drinks and the server bowed out with a polite, “Call me if you need anything,” the conversation began.

Their party, Gamma Team, had been ranked E. So how had they jumped two ranks?

“We were promoted to C-rank because we successfully restored the goddess statue,” one of them explained.

“That was actually a B-rank request.”

“Wait, that was a B-rank request? And just completing that got us promoted to C-rank?”

Kachua was puzzled. The Queen Hie-Hie Iron Ant had been a tough opponent for them, but as monsters go, it was ranked C. With proper fire-attribute weapons, they wouldn’t have struggled as much.

“The Healing Stone, even though high-level mages tried to locate it with magic detection, was impossible to find.”

The guild and the church had been desperately searching for the Healing Stone, not only because it was valuable and rare but also because the culprit who stole it from the goddess statue needed to be found and punished. Yet despite their efforts, both the stone and the thief remained elusive.

As it turned out, the Healing Stone had been hidden inside the belly of the Queen Hie-Hie Iron Ant, in its nest between floors of the dungeon. That’s why no amount of magical scanning could detect it. Many parties had searched for the Healing Stone, but no one could find a single clue, leading to the quest rank being raised higher and higher.

“And we found it on our first try.”

“They were amazed and kept asking how we did it, but we just said it was ‘pure luck.’ So stick with that story, Kachua,” Ann whispered, lowering her voice despite the anti-eavesdropping magic in the room.

“Thanks…”

Ann continued, still speaking in a hushed tone. “If anyone catches wind of your skill, it could be trouble.”

“Yeah…”

Kachua still didn’t fully grasp it, but her 【Housewife】 skill was secretly very powerful.

“Oh, by the way, Rick’s goal has been achieved, hasn’t it?”

Rick had aimed to reach D-rank, but the whole team had skipped that and become C-rank. Team ranks are determined based on the ranks of its members. Now that all of them were C-rank, their team was promoted as well.

“Yes, that’s true. I’m happy about it though.”

“Well, yeah, I’m happy about it, but…” Rick scratched his head awkwardly. “Honestly, I don’t think we’re strong enough to be a real C-rank team. I want us to get stronger to match the rank.”

“I get that.”

Meanwhile, Laura, who had been fidgeting nervously, locked eyes with Kachua and finally spoke. “I need to apologize to you, Kachua.”

“Huh? Why?”

“This…” Laura hesitantly handed over the staff she was holding.

“This?”

Laura, a healer, always carried a staff that boosted her healing magic. But this wasn’t her usual ‘Apprentice Healer’s Staff’—a beginner’s tool. The one she now held looked far more expensive.

“It’s a reward for defeating the Queen Hie-Hie Iron Ant.”

“Oh, I see.”

Rick explained from the side. “It was part of the quest rewards. We could choose between a healing staff or an attack staff, and we picked the healing one. Sorry for deciding without asking you.”

“It’s fine. I would’ve picked the same.”

The healing staff boosted the power of recovery magic by 1.5 times. For a healer, it was a must-have item.

“With this, Laura, you’re one step closer to your goal.”

Laura’s goal was to be able to heal many people.

“Yeah, I’ll do my best.”

“And then there’s Ann and Org’s goals…”

Ann wanted to lose weight, while Org aimed to obtain the Supreme Status Ailment Cure Potion.

“About that,” Ann leaned in close to Kachua. “Org’s goal… has been half-achieved.”

“Really?”

“Well, not half, more like a quarter,” Rick corrected.

“Either way, that’s progress, right?”

“Check this out,” Org said, pulling out a thick, dictionary-sized book.

“It’s the Complete Guide to Ultimate Potions!”

It was the book detailing the recipe Org had been searching for.

“You did it, Org! Was this part of the quest rewards?”

“No, it’s a bonus for reaching C-rank.”

Up until D-rank, a team can advance in one to two years by completing quests steadily. But few teams make it to C-rank. Some adventurers quit due to family reasons or infighting, causing teams to disband. Such was the life of an adventurer, bound by freedom.

Because of this, the Adventurers’ Guild provides benefits to parties ranked C and above. These perks include priority reservations for meeting rooms, complimentary drinks, and special bonuses like rare books.

When their promotion to C-rank was confirmed, they were allowed to pick one rare book from the Guild’s collection. That’s how Org found this one.

“I’m sorry, we decided on this without asking…”

“It’s fine. I would’ve done the same.”

“Now that you’ve got the recipe, we can start gathering ingredients and have an alchemist make it…”

“Actually, Kachua, take a closer look.”

“Huh?”

The book Org held had a small inscription: Volume 1. It was only the first volume of the Complete Guide to Ultimate Potions.

“The recipe is split into two volumes. The top half is in this book, but we still need Volume 2 to complete the potion,” Ann explained.

“So that’s why it’s only half-achieved?”

“Exactly. We have half of the recipe. Our next task is to gather the ingredients listed in this volume while searching for the second one.”
