- Chapter 15 - [Side Story] Bazaar Day
Let’s rewind the story a little.
“Oh, Kachua! Are you here to pick up Barbara?”
“Yes, I am. You too, Holy?”
“That’s right. …Hey, Kachua, have you thought of anything for the bazaar?”
“Not at all.”
“What should we do?”
“We’re in trouble.”
“Yeah, really in trouble.”
The moms gathered in the preschool courtyard were troubled over the charity bazaar that the Adventurers’ Guild Daycare was holding in just a month. This popular event, held by the parents of the preschool at a rented church, attracted not only the preschoolers and their families but also a large number of local residents.
The attractions included potions made by mage moms, shaved ice made from eternal snow brought back from dungeons by adventurer moms, and a flea market run by adventurer dads, selling all kinds of hidden gems.
Meanwhile, Kachua and the other F-rank porters, who didn’t have any standout skills, were at a loss for what to contribute this year.
“Hmm, since we can’t offer any rare food or goods…” Suddenly, Kachua had an idea. “I’ve got it! Why don’t we sell ordinary things?”
“Ordinary things?”
“Like the bags or smocks that the school requires! Especially the bags—there’s no specific size, or if there is, it’s never the color the kids like, so you end up making them anyway, right?”
“Yeah, that was such a hassle.”
The moms all remembered, their eyes growing distant.
Bags, pouches… Preschool required a lot of different bags.
Even though they worked hard to make them by hand for their kids’ happiness, they were difficult enough that they would’ve bought them if good ones had been available.
Kachua and the other porter moms came from various backgrounds. Some were once high-level adventurers who had switched to porter work after having children, while most were just ordinary women from town.
In general, most porter moms had basic sewing skills, as it was part of the domestic work they were accustomed to.
“Let’s sell school supplies!”
“That might actually be a good idea.”
“The sizes are perfect for kids, even if they don’t go to our school.”
The moms decided to collaborate, making and selling necessary items like bags for the preschool. If they didn’t sell, they could always use them for their own kids or give them to their relatives. Worst case, they could donate them to the preschool, so nothing would go to waste.
As a special feature for the bazaar, they decided to offer personalized name embroidery for the first 100 customers. Full name embroidery would cost 500 gold, and cute flower or bird designs would be an additional 500 gold per piece.
Kachua thought, “It’s a bit pricey,” but considering the cost of materials and labor, they couldn’t afford to charge less.
“Will it sell…?”
As the one who proposed the idea, Kachua was quite anxious, but on the day of the bazaar, the shop was extremely popular, and they were on the verge of selling out.
Many adventurer moms had specialized skills, but they were poor at general domestic tasks, and Kachua’s items appealed to moms who still wanted their kids to have cute supplies.
The name embroidery service, which allowed for personalized, one-of-a-kind items, was also a big hit.
And then there was this unusual customer…
“Excuse me.”
Kachua turned around at the deep voice, seeing a large, muscular man, clearly an adventurer.
“Y-yes?” Feeling slightly intimidated by his size, Kachua approached him cautiously.
“Can adults buy these too?” It seemed he wanted to purchase a cute red bag.
“Yes, of course!” Kachua answered, and the man’s face lit up with joy.
Soon, scratching his head in embarrassment, he asked, “Um, could I also get embroidery? Not my name, but could you do a Loa-chan design?”
“Loa-chan? You mean the mythical beast?”
“Yes, that’s right.”
“Please wait a moment.”
Kachua was skilled at name embroidery thanks to her husband Alan, a knight who often went on expeditions and needed his belongings labeled. But she couldn’t handle the intricate Loa-chan design herself. So she consulted a mom who specialized in embroidery.
“It would be a large design, so it will take some time, and the price would be 1,000 gold. Is that alright?”
“Please, go ahead!”
As the adventurer walked away, Kachua couldn’t help but murmur, “There are Loa-chan fans out there…”
The embroidery team worked in shifts of ten, switching out when their eyes grew tired.
When Kachua’s eyes started to blur, she took a break.
Both Ed and Barbara were at the bazaar today, engrossed in a puppet show in the square under the supervision of another mom.
“Ed, Barbara!”
“Mom!”
After reuniting with her kids, the three of them wandered around the bazaar, buying snacks and enjoying the festivities. After that, Kachua went back to embroidering.
“Alright, I’m heading back to do some more embroidery!”
“Okay!”
“Do your best!”
Kachua kept embroidering names. At one point, a status board appeared with a “Ping!”
“Huh? What? Never mind, I need to focus on this embroidery!”
She quickly dismissed the board without paying attention. In the end, all the items they had prepared for the bazaar sold out. The name embroidery service received more than 100 orders, so for those beyond that number, they accepted requests for later delivery.
After deducting expenses, all the profits from the bazaar were donated to the church.
“It was quite the success,” the priest commented to Kachua.
“Thank you very much,” she replied. Later, Kachua suddenly remembered, Oh, Ann and Jessica told me I should get an ‘appraisal’ at the church, didn’t they?
But the priest seemed too busy, and she had already figured out what her “Housewife” skill entailed at the Appraisal Spring on the seventh floor.
“Ah, it’s fine,” she thought, and headed home with her children.
Kachua never noticed the message on her status board…
