- Chapter 12 - Appraisal! Skill [Housewife], Part 2
“I’ve never heard of it.”
Even Ann, who has a lot of experience, said she’d never heard of such a skill.
“Well, anyway, take a look at the details of that skill.”
“Y-yeah.”
Kachua peered into the Appraisal Spring. After stats like stamina, magic power, and attack power, there was a section for acquired skills.
—Skill: [Housewife/Househusband]: Given to the one blessed by the divine. Bestowed with the authority to view and benefit from parts of the dungeon’s secrets by the gods.—
“Whoa, that sounds cool!” Kachua was surprised by how unexpectedly impressive her own skill sounded. “But does this ‘authority to view and benefit from parts of the dungeon’s secrets’ refer to flyers? Is that really something secret-worthy?”
“Well, it’s secret enough, I suppose. The way monsters and items change depending on the day or location is not uncommon for rare skills like ‘Luck.’ But your skill has an even broader range and greater effect.”
It also seemed that only Kachua and her companions could “benefit” from her skill. This was evident since other parties in the dungeon on the same day didn’t end up with drops full of fish.
“Still, this ‘blessed by the divine’ thing is kind of vague, but it’s amazing, Kachua-san.”
“That title is usually only given to priests of the temple.”
‘The one blessed by the divine’ was typically titles bestowed upon virtuous clergy. For example, when a person surrounded by enemies prays to the gods, and bolts of lightning rain down to wipe them out, or when a deadly disease spreads, and a prayer instantly heals the sick—there are many incredible stories like these.
However, even those blessed may still die tragically while praying. It’s a title shrouded in mystery, not something that activates every time.
“Could it be because I prayed to the goddess statue before entering the dungeon? But just that? I haven’t undergone the rigorous training that priests do. I’ve only logged in a hundred times.”
Kachua felt uneasy about such an extravagant title like “divine blessing.”
“It’s said that a person’s inner nature moves the gods. You’d have to ask the gods about that. Not that we can. But, this [Housewife] skill… Hmm? Wait, I said I’d never heard of it, but didn’t someone mention a skill with a similar name somewhere before…?” Ann furrowed her brow.
“Huh? Someone you know has the same skill as me?” Kachua’s excitement grew at the thought of finding someone with the same skill.
“Did they? I can’t remember at all. I’m getting old.” Ann scratched her head.
Feeling a little disappointed, Kachua said, “Well, if you remember, let me know, okay?”
Kachua’s weakness became clear at the Appraisal Spring. Her parameters weren’t growing because her level was hard to raise.
This was a critical flaw for an adventurer.
“But I probably shouldn’t have this skill sealed off, right…?”
When Kachua asked her party members…
“No.”
“Definitely not.”
“Don’t do it.”
“Don’t.”
…they all objected.
In fact, skills could be sealed at the church through a skill suppression ritual. However, Kachua’s [Housewife] skill was apparently tied to divine blessing. Though the nature of that blessing remained unclear, it wasn’t a good idea to suppress a skill granted by the gods through the goddess statue for personal reasons.
This meant that Kachua would continue having a hard time leveling up.
“Sorry for causing trouble for everyone.”
Kachua apologized, feeling downcast, but they all reassured her, “Don’t worry about it.”
“Really? I won’t be kicked out of the party?”
“Kicked out?”
“For something like that?”
“There’s a serialized story in the Adventurers’ Guild newspaper about something like that—where an old adventurer with a low-tier skill is kicked out of the party and later rises to success.”
“Well, if he rises to success, isn’t that a good thing…?” Laura pointed out coolly.
Kachua firmly declared, “It’s hard before you get there! I don’t have the guts for that!”
If she ended up in a similar situation, she was sure she would just give up and cry. While that adventurer is now doing well, his earlier miserable doormat phase was such a tear-jerker that it was hard to read without crying.
“I don’t mind. I always thought Kachua’s value came from her knowledge and skills as a porter rather than her level anyway,” Ann said first.
“Agreed.”
“I don’t really get it, but the meat, fish, and special sales days are handy.”
“Yeah.”
Org and the others nodded in agreement.
“Thanks, everyone.”
“But Kachua, one thing’s clear now. You’re too weak defensively to move forward. At least get yourself some good defense gear.”
“Yeah, I will…”

After finishing the dungeon exploration, Kachua went about her usual routine. She picked up Barbara, made dinner, and enjoyed a modest but happy meal with her small family of three.
It was a peaceful time together.
“Mother, you’re an adventurer, right?”
Ed’s way of addressing Kachua changed depending on his mood. When he wanted to act a bit tough, he called her “Mother.”
“That’s right.”
“You don’t seem very strong, though. Are you doing dangerous things?” Ed asked worriedly.
“Don’t worry, honey. I’m not that strong, but my companions are very strong. But since you’re concerned, I’ll make sure to prioritize safety.”
“Yeah, please do.”
Kachua’s current gear was a Leather Dress (Defense +10). She had planned to upgrade to a slightly sturdier Fur Dress (Defense +15), but now she thought she might need something with even higher defense.
Though she wanted to save every penny for Ed’s education, getting hurt would be the worst outcome.
In the end, even though it would cost 80% of her current funds, she decided to request an elegant finish on a Magic Chameleon Dress (Defense +40).
An elegant finish was a costly enhancement done at the armor shop, boosting defense, magic resistance, and other resistances.

The party finished their dungeon exploration for the day and returned to the first floor using a teleportation scroll.
“Phew, getting there was so hard, but coming back is instant,” Rick sighed.
The party had reached the eighth floor after ten attempts.
“It’d be nice if we could just teleport there too.”
“Yeah.”
“That’d be great.”
Rick, Laura, and Org exchanged light banter while Kachua and Ann looked at each other.
“Is that kind of magic possible?”
“Of course. But only a few can use teleportation magic. Maybe one in ten magic users,” Kachua replied.
“It’s rare, huh?”
“Very. On top of that, teleporting multiple people at once requires a ton of magic. So, you’d need magic recovery potions to make up for it.”
Magic recovery potions were among the most expensive types of potions.
“There are also teleportation scrolls for going, but unlike fixed teleportation circles, they’re expensive,” Kachua added.
“How much?” Rick asked.
“100,000 gold.”
It was a steep price.
Not impossible to afford—today’s earnings for the team were around 400,000 gold, though they hadn’t converted it yet.
While it seemed like a huge amount, after deducting expenses for potions and other supplies, the actual take-home pay for each member wasn’t that much. They also had to budget for weapons and armor. Spending a quarter of that amount on a single scroll was painfully expensive, and it wouldn’t necessarily boost their income.
Sometimes it was safer and more profitable to take down weak enemies on the lower floors than to exhaust themselves fighting tough monsters on higher floors.
Not the most glamorous, but…
“Teleportation magic or scrolls aren’t really practical unless your party can reach the twentieth floor.”
For parties strong enough to easily handle monsters on the twentieth floor, the cost of magic recovery potions and teleportation scrolls would pay off.
“It’s all about money in the end, huh…” Rick muttered wistfully.
It was a bit harsh, but true.
