- Chapter 8 Part 2 - Funeral Practitioner
Bai Qiuye slowly dropped her hand at the sound, leaned against the dirt slope and took a deep breath.
[Awesome!]
[????]
[How did she throw it out so fast?]
[Bai Qiuye can you open your camera! The kid’s curious!]
The barrage was immediately full of praise, a large group of viewers who were interested in Bai Qiuye, while complaining about Bai Qiuye’s lack of an open personal camera, jumped around between the cameras of herr fellow teammates, looking for the best angle to observe Bai Qiuye.
After a few minutes, the sound of trickling water came from the stream. The sound got farther and farther and returned back on the other side of the bank.
Bai Qiuye cautiously poked her head up and saw the four shadows leave the bank, go over the opposite dirt slope, and disappear into the darkness.
She lowered her voice and said, “They’re gone.”
Liu He sniffed, and only then did he let go of Chen Chen. His hands were full of red paper wet with blood, and he frowned as he threw them away, casually rubbing them on his clothes.
Chen Chen slumped to the ground and vomited all over the floor. He had turned into the whitest of the four, his face like kitchen paper soaked in oil, a sickly look.
Bai Qiuye felt goosebumps and asked, “Chen Chen, how are you feeling?”
Chen Chen looked at her sideways, his expression twisted and on the verge of collapsing at any moment, “It hurts…. My stomach hurts….”
Bai Qiuye thought to herself that all his internal organs had been vomited out, how could he not have a stomach ache. Chen Chen wasn’t dead yet, probably because he has turned into paper and his body has mutated.
”You hold on for a while, Liu He and I will go get the bones back.” Mo Jie said, “When we finish the first job, Widow Du will come back. We can then ask her about paperization.”
His words seemed to actually have a comforting effect, and Chen Chen calmed down a bit, “You guys…. Come back soon….”
Mo Jie added, “Bai Qiuye, take care of yourself, if it gets really dangerous use that flyer.”
Bai Qiuye heard this, she took the flyer out, squeezing it tightly in her hand as if she was tugging on a life preserver.
Mo Jie and Liu He climbed over the dirt slope and ran towards the stream with their waists bent.
After a while, Chen Chen asked in a hoarse voice, “Why have they been gone for so long?”
Bai Qiuye revealed her head and stared at the backs of the two men squatting by the stream, “Still washing, I guess.”
Chen Chen said, “But they have been washing for too long.”
As soon as he said that, Bai Qiuye also felt that something was wrong.
Even if there were still some bones that hadn’t been washed before they hid over, could they be washed for so long?
”Go take a look…. Cough.” Chen Chen coughed up some more unknown objects.
Bai Qiuye’s heart was in a mess.
Mo Jie and Liu He hadn’t returned, she was afraid that something had happened.
The two of them were the highest leveled among the people who came in this time, one level 44 and the other level 36.
If the two of them had met an untimely end, wouldn’t she, a level 1 rookie, have even less chance of winning?
This made her want to run away.
But the bones were still over there, and without picking them back up, the job couldn’t be completed.
Bai Qiuye weighed the situation in her mind for a moment, and ultimately chose to compromise with reality.
”I’ll go check on them.” She had wanted Chen Chen to accompany her over there, but seeing that the other party looked more scary than a ghost, she decided to go on her own.
”You go and come back quickly….” Chen Chen nodded strenuously, paralysed on the ground like a dying old bull.
Bai Qiuye hummed, lifted her skirt over the dirt slope, and silently walked towards the stream.
Mo Jie and Liu He lowered their heads, putting their hands into the stream in front of them. The water rushing past their hands, taking away the strong smell of blood.
Bai Qiuye walked behind them and inevitably kicked a pebble on the ground.
But the two acted as if they hadn’t heard it, still maintaining their previous positions.
Bai Qiuye swallowed a mouthful of saliva and probed her body to look in front of them.
Liu He suddenly turned his head, “Don’t look!”
But Bai Qiuye had already seen it.
What they were holding, surprisingly, was not bones, but a pair of swollen hands poking out of the water.
Sinking in the water was a person lying on his back facing upwards, his arms a little swollen, wearing a white cloth, with seaweed-like dancing black hair covering his face.
It turned out that Mo Jie and Liu He were entangled in this thing under the water, and they had to resist with all their might to barely avoid being pulled into the water.
The moment Bai Qiuye looked over, she found a pair of eyes meeting her through her long hair.
In an instant, the peace talisman on her body began to spontaneously combust.
As if they were burning grass and wood shavings, it suddenly shattered into white ash just as the flames were about to blaze, and a burning smell filled the air, mixing with the chilly dampness coming out of the water, filling her nostrils and bringing about a suffocating sensation.
One after another, sparks quickly crawled all over the yellow paper on which the red talisman had been drawn, and the peace talismans turned to ashes one after another.
Bai Qiuye’s body was exposed, like a carp with its scales pulled off, losing all sense of security.
Inside the live broadcast room, the viewers watching Mo Jie and Liu He’s perspective were already excited.
[The peace talisman burned this fast? What kind of ghost is this!!!]
[This is a boss? The boss is too fierce!]
[Damn (‘o’) I don’t know what to complain about at the moment.]
[As soon as the peace talisman burns out, they will all be destroyed.]
[Unless that big boss comes out to save them.]
The barrage began to rise, hoping that the big boss would shine and give them a glimpse.
But most of them also knew that it was mostly impossible, how could there be a big boss on call.
[Can we start a bet for this one, full group destruction vs full group escape. @Admin]
[Full group escape? If one of them escapes, I’ll kneel down call you my father.]
Soon the admin responded to the barrage’s request and a prize winning bet appeared in the centre of the screen.
Before the end of the copy.
Full group destruction vs someone survives.
Those with spare coupons watched the bet quite heartily, as the ending was too easy to guess.
The speed at which the peace talisman burned was the obvious hint – the stronger the ghost, the weaker the defences would be.
The spectators could be sure that if the highest ranked Mo Jie didn’t have any other cards on him, their team would definitely be destroyed in a group.
This was a sure-win bet.
The prize pool of the bet began to fall to one side, and even if they could win, they wouldn’t be able to get much reward in the end.
[Why don’t we just vote for survival, it’s not like the whole team is required to survive anyway. Wouldn’t it be a huge profit if one person survived?]
[You’re so full of tricks. If you want to vote, just do it yourself.]
[Shit, someone’s really voting?]
[Those who voted for the survivor, are they rebels by nature, or do they really think that a noob can turn the situation around.]
[Bai Qiuye’s performance is still remarkable.]
