Snap!

The lamp in Chen Chen’s hand fell to the ground and the glass shattered on the pebbles by the river.

The stream washed over the wick, and the oil lamp flickered a few times, like the last breath of a dying man, before it was blown out by the ghostly wind that swept through the riverbed.

As soon as the lamp went out, everyone present immediately felt an unspeakable coolness.

It was like slippery, wet and cold water that penetrated the five senses and wrapped around every bone in the body.

Chen Chen face turned pale, “I didn’t know…. It wasn’t me….”

He didn’t know why he suddenly let go of his hand, as if he was unable to manipulate his body like he was in a nightmare.

Bai Qiuye looked at her palm, which had completely turned pale, “Time’s up, It has reached 30%”.

[Current paperization level: 30%].

The nerves in their arms lost their sensitivity and had to be controlled.

There was no way for them to complete their job.

Chen Chen also smashed the corpse oil lamp because he was distracted by what was on the other side and encountered the paperization.

Liu He picked up the corpse oil lamp that had fallen into the water and tried to relight it with a candle.

However, after the corpse oil lamp had been in the water, the flame on the wick kept dying.

”What to do…” Chen Chen said, turning his head to the side.

Perhaps because he was too scared, he actually propped himself up on his knees and vomited.

He had vomited before, and this time his stomach was even more empty. After vomiting out some transparent stomach acid, a red stain appeared at the corner of his mouth.

Startled by his appearance, Bai Qiuye took out a piece of persimmon cake and gave it to him, “Eat something first.”

When Chen Chen saw the orange-red persimmon cake, he somehow threw up again.

This time, the blood left at the corner of his mouth was even more obvious.

Bai Qiuye’s sharp eyes noticed that it didn’t seem to be a mere blood stain, as it appeared to be a streaky solid.

She gestured, “Here-”

Chen Chen raised his hand and tried to wipe it off, but his hand suddenly froze.

Immediately after, he pinched the red stain with two fingers.

Only then did Bai Qiuye realise that it was actually a long strip of paper that had been dyed red with blood.

”What is this?” Chen Chen was shocked and wanted to pick up the paper and throw it away.

However, every time he pulled it out a little bit, more paper would come out of his mouth.

Bai Qiuye suddenly felt like he was pulling on a red sausage that would never break.

Realising something, she rushed to stop him, “Stop it!”

This was no paper, it was clearly his own intestines!

Chen Chen looked pained as he pulled the paper out of his mouth while covering his abdomen and said, “My stomach, it hurts!”

As he said this, he pulled out some more paper and his body fell softly to the ground as he began to vomit furiously.

Soon, he vomited out many red clots that looked like a ball of paper soaked in blood.

Bai Qiuye’s face changed dramatically.

This can’t be….. his internal organs!

The others realised this as well, and Liu He quickly twisted Chen Chen’s arm behind him.

Chen Chen continued to cough as he struggled, almost coughing his lungs out.

At that moment, Bai Qiye heard his voice coming from the opposite bank.

” You really don’t need my help?”

The music stopped for a moment, and the riverbank became exceptionally quiet. Then the people on the opposite side of the stream crouched in a row, their hands in the water, as if cleaning something.

On one side was today, twenty years later, and on the other the wedding night twenty years ago.

Two groups of people had come here for the same purpose.

This terrifying feeling of being out of control instantly swept through the minds of Bai Qiuye and the others.

Bai Qiuye’s heart raced as the other side seemed to be following through on their previous conversation.

After a while, she noticed that there was a strange node on the other side.

Lowering her voice, she said, “Hurry, they’re about to look over.”

”Avoid them first.” Mo Jie pointed to the slope on their side, “Let’s go back.”

He covered Du Youfu’s bones with a quilt and hid it under a large rock by the stream, and together with Liu He, they escorted Chen Chen over the slope and hid in the bushes below.

Bai Qiuye hid with them, her body bent over the ground with only half of her head exposed, watching the situation on the other side of the stream.

The dialogue on the other side was still going on.

It had come to the point where they had noticed a shadow across the stream.

They had seen the shadows, but the “people” on the other side could not see them hiding, and Bai Qiuye had no idea what would happen next.

The upper half of the four shadows’ bodies moved, as if they had suddenly discovered something, and their heads turned towards them in unison.

Immediately after that, the four shadows slowly stood up, as if something was lifting their spines, first bending at the waist and then straightening up a little.

The four shadows took a few steps forward and stepped into the water, their movements becoming crooked again, like half-melted clay figures.

One of the shadows suddenly lifted her head and looked behind the slope.

Her head jerked down and her shoulders trembled repeatedly.

She suddenly realised that the red shroud she had seen in the well earlier was the same one that this ghost was wearing.

Bai Qiuye reached down to untie the ropes around her calves and took out one of the firewood knives, clutching it tightly in her hand.

Mo Jie and Liu He had no time to pay attention to Bai Qiuye’s movements.

One of them was watching the shadows movements, while the other one was covering Chen Chen’s mouth to prevent him from making a sound.

Whoa!

Something on the other side was dripping water.

The sound of footsteps quickly approached them, still approaching the slope.

The four of them held their breath, their backs pressed tightly against the slope, trying their best to keep their figures hidden in the bushes as the sound of footsteps became clearer and clearer in their ears.

Suddenly, the faint sounds stopped.

A drop of water fell on Bai Qiuye’s toes, bringing with it a damp smell.

She lifted her head to find a body sticking out above her head, looking down.

Only a body lying face down on the slope could have its head sticking out in such a position.

But would a normal person be in such a position in this kind of place?

Bai Qiuye tensed her calves, slowly moving her toes into the bushes, afraid to make any noise and startle the person at the top of the slope.

”Found something.”

An emotionless voice was heard, and Bai Qiuye recognised it as her voice, but it was very unfamiliar.

“What have you found?”

”Nothing, let’s go.”

The thing above her head replied and its body slowly shrank back.

Bai Qiuye’s firewood knife was put back, and she slowly let out a sigh of relief.

At that moment, the bushes next to her suddenly shook.

Bai Qiuye cursed and turned her head only to see Chen Chen struggling desperately, Liu He’s five fingers dripping with blood and covering his mouth.

That blood was Chen Chen’s, his eyes had already turned white and his face was swollen, he looked like he was about to die.

Liu He directly stuffed Chen Chen’s mouth with his clothes, but Chen Chen’s lungs were like broken bellows, and a faint sound of breathing could always be heard.

”I heard the sound.”

”I heard it too.”

”Look quickly.”

”Where?”

The body that had retreated looked again, seemingly noticing the movement of the bushes, and the upper half of the body stretched in their direction, having grown to an incredible length.

Bai Qiuye suddenly raised her hand, and a branch was lightly brushed, almost making a loud noise.

The viewers in the live broadcast room became even more nervous at this sight than those inside the copy.

[Doesn’t she know how to hold her breath at times like this?]

[A rookie is still a rookie.]

[Shit, it’s getting worse. They’re definitely going to get caught.]

The head was already in front of the bush when suddenly there was a sound of a stone rolling next to it.

The ghost head turned to the side, and after a moment it swished back.

”The sound is over there.”

”I heard it too.”

The sound of walking resounded again, and the people above were gone.
