- Chapter 22 Part 3 - Night Watchman
She was on the fifth floor, but there was a thick layer of white fog below, making it impossible for her to see the bottom. She could only hear the sound of ghosts ringing bells coming from below, and each time, it seemed to strike her heart.
Bai Qiuye carefully propped herself up and tried to step on the hanging flower bed.
This kind of flower bed was very narrow, only the width of one foot. When Bai Qiuye stood on it, the tips of her feet were exposed, and her centre of gravity unconsciously leaned forward.
The fog from the bottom of the building moistened her fingertips, and her palms were already covered in cold sweat.
She gulped, and with one hand holding on to the wall to prevent herself from falling, she reached down with the other hand.
[10 seconds]
She found a gap.
Bai Qiuye took a deep breath, and her other hand slowly let go, and she also reached out to find the gap.
Her body fell straight forward, and just as she was about to fall off the building, her hands acted as a stabiliser. Like a lever, the inertia threw her body towards the outer wall of the building.
Bang!
It wasn’t the sound of her body hitting the wall, but the sound of Bai Qiuye successfully jumping into the mezzanine between the fifth and fourth floors.
“This is already a pleasant surprise, I really can’t find any other place.” Bai Qiuye smiled bitterly, patted the dust off her body, and took out a hand-cranked flashlight.
The light came on, illuminating the empty space that could only allow a person to move forward with their body bent.
Bai Qiuye suddenly discovered that there was a person in front of her.
“Ge Zixuan?” Bai Qiuye called out tentatively.
Her hand that wasn’t holding the flashlight had already reached into her bag for the talisman.
If Ge Zixuan was a fake, she could make her move as quickly as possible.
Ge Zixuan, who had been missing for a while, raised his head when he heard her voice, and his face was covered in blood.
Ge Zixuan asked sternly, “Are you a human or a ghost?!”
Bai Qiuye: “…”
Why did she feel like she was the host?
Bai Qiuye said, “Of course I’m a human.”
Ge Zixuan obviously didn’t believe her, and asked cautiously, “Tell me, what’s your name?”
Bai Qiuye: “I’m Yeye.”
Only then did Ge Zixuan slowly approach her. “Yeye, why are you here?”
Bai Qiuye said, “I have an extra part-time job, playing ghost hunting games with ghosts.”
Ge Zixuan said in disbelief: “You actually got a part-time job.”
Bai Qiuye said, “Do you think I want to receive it?”
After she finished speaking, she stuck a talisman on Ge Zixuan’s forehead.
Ge Zixuan was startled by her actions and jumped up instantly. “What the f*ck are you doing?”
Bai Qiuye said, “Putting a talisman on you to see if you’re a ghost.”
Ge Zixuan heaved a sigh of relief. “I’ve already gotten PTSD from the zombies. When I see things like talismans, I become paranoid. I’m sorry.”
Bai Qiuye’s body tensed up. “Zombies? Did you encounter a zombie?”
Ge Zixuan looked at Bai Qiuye, feeling wronged. “After we parted ways, I met a man with glasses. I stuck my face to the peephole and looked inside.”
Bai Qiuye cried out involuntarily, “Glasses man?”
“Yeah,” Ge Zixuan said, puzzled. “What’s the conflict between you and that guy with glasses?”
“There’s no conflict.” Bai Qiuye said, “What did he do after that? Why did a zombie appear?”
“I just think that this is abnormal behaviour at night?” Ge Zixuan said, “As a night watchman, stopping this kind of behaviour is one of the unspoken rules. It can be considered a bonus.”
Bai Qiuye heard this and secretly noted down this bonus point. She asked again: “And then?”
“In short, I went up to stop him. In the end, he directly opened the door.” Ge Zixuan shuddered. “He pushed me in and I saw something I never want to see again in my life.”
Bai Qiuye asked seriously, “A zombie?”
Ge Zixuan said, “I don’t know if it counts as a zombie. When I opened the door, that thing was standing in front of me.”
Bai Qiuye said in shock, “You saw it directly and you’re still alive?”
“When I was pushed in, it didn’t move.” Ge Zixuan touched his arm and said, “I saw a support frame behind it. Looking at its body shape, it should be a woman. It’s definitely dead. Its whole body was wet and its hair was still dripping water. It looked like it just took a shower.”
“F*ck, don’t tell me that glasses guy has that kind of fetish!” Ge Zixuan retched twice.
Bai Qiuye didn’t understand and asked, “Since it didn’t move, what are you afraid of?”
“Just because it didn’t move at that time doesn’t mean it didn’t move later.” Ge Zixuan said, “My first reaction was that it wouldn’t move. But when I turned to open the door, it was blocked from the outside. I was about to break it open when it directly bit at the back of my neck.”
“Luckily, I was smart and kept an eye on it. I’ve been using my side vision to observe behind me.” Ge Zixuan said, “When it pounced, I ran to the window and then climbed down the pipe to get here. I’ve been hiding until now.”
Bai Qiuye: “… You’ve been hiding for too long.”
Ge Zixuan sighed. “Anyway, since you guys have completed the second task, it’s considered completed. It doesn’t matter if I’m here or not. Why don’t I rest here for a while?”
Bai Qiuye heard this and thought that Ge Zixuan’s good days were probably coming to an end.
Her part-time job wasn’t up yet. Hiding here seemed to be safe for the time being.
But she had to hide for a total of thirty minutes and could be caught at any time.
Just then, Bai Qiuye suddenly saw a few strands of hair drooping down.
