Chapter 7: Dreams Are Always Opposite

After leaving the basketball court, He Wenshuo took Jiang Yinian for a leisurely stroll to their school’s photo hotspot—the artificial lake.

With a bridge above the water, fish swimming beneath, and lush green lawns along the shore, it offered flawless natural scenery as photo backgrounds. It was also a favorite spot for couples at their school to pass the time.

Since those idle classmates kept complaining that his social media lacked photos, he decided to fill the gaps directly by bringing Jiang Yinian to capture images at every photogenic spot on campus. Let’s see what nonsense they could still gossip about him.

He Wenshuo swung Jiang Yinian’s hand gently and suggested, Let’s take some photos here.

Alright.

Jiang Yinian had no objections. Since he’d already done his makeup, worn the dress, and come all this way, taking photos was just an extra step. He only hoped He Wenshuo would be thorough this time so there wouldn’t be a next round.

Taking photos with a good friend felt different from taking them with a romantic partner.

He Wenshuo raised and lowered his phone repeatedly, busy for a while but failing to find a suitable angle. He sighed and put down the phone, looking down at Jiang Yinian.

Jiang Yinian was puzzled. What’s wrong? Weren’t we going to take photos? Why hadn’t he managed to snap even one after all that effort?

He Wenshuo placed one hand on Jiang Yinian’s shoulder and lifted the phone with the other, aiming it at both of them. He motioned for Jiang Yinian to check the screen. This is how we usually take photos, right?

Jiang Yinian nodded. Yeah.

That was correct—they didn’t take many photos, only occasionally during outings or holidays.

He Wenshuo pressed the shutter and then fell silent as he stared at the photo.

He knew he wasn’t very photogenic, but in the past, his pictures with Jiang Yinian were at least acceptable. Now, with Jiang Yinian dressed as a girl, he looked completely out of place standing beside him. Even he felt the mismatch, and it was deeply unsettling.

He Wenshuo continued studying the phone.

In the photo, Jiang Yinian was nearly flawless—beautiful eyes, nose, lips, even every strand of hair looked perfect. But He Wenshuo beside him inexplicably seemed to be in a different layer, disconnected from Jiang Yinian.

He had never cared about being unphotogenic before.

Yet now, He Wenshuo couldn’t help frowning and seeking confirmation from Jiang Yinian. I don’t actually look like this in the photo, do I?

Jiang Yinian glanced at the phone, then at He Wenshuo. No.

The photo was distorted, creating a stark contrast with reality. A lively, handsome guy appeared to lose his soul in the picture, turning dull and lackluster.

After a moment of silence, He Wenshuo refused to accept it. Let’s try again.

He stood up, hooked an arm around Jiang Yinian’s shoulder, raised the phone high to find a better angle, and took another shot.

The moment was frozen in the photo.

He Wenshuo checked the result and found it wasn’t much better than the previous one. Jiang Yinian looked as if he’d been photoshopped in, while He Wenshuo himself… well, it was better not to look.

He couldn’t figure it out and looked at Jiang Yinian with utter innocence: I really don’t look like this, do I?

Mm. Jiang Yinian also didn’t understand why some people just didn’t photograph well. If you really want to take photos, why not try not showing your face?

When he browsed social media, he noticed many people took photos in that fresh, aesthetic style where faces weren’t visible. In a way, hiding the face left more room for imagination.

He Wenshuo: …… Guess that’s the only option left.

Remembering those official couple announcement photos he’d seen in others’ Moments, an idea struck him. He took Jiang Yinian’s hand, wanting to capture a photo of their intertwined fingers.

Both hands were warm with interlocked fingers, each wrist adorned with strikingly similar watch designs.

Jiang Yinian glanced down – his hand was at least two shades fairer than He Wenshuo’s.

The camera screen froze on another image.

He Wenshuo retrieved his phone to examine the photo. This one actually looked decent, and Jiang Yinian’s hand was quite attractive too – pale and well-proportioned.

Jiang Yinian peeked at the screen and reminded him: My hands are larger than a girl’s. People might notice.

Though his skin was fair, his slender fingers would easily give away that they belonged to a male upon closer inspection.

Doesn’t matter.

After saving this somewhat satisfactory photo, He Wenshuo responded instinctively, Whoever dares stare at your hand too long will have to answer to me first.

Jiang Yinian felt He Wenshuo must have missed the point: But didn’t you drag me here to take photos specifically to show others in your Moments?

Only then did He Wenshuo recall his original purpose: ……

Well, that was true.

But now that he thought about it, why should he go through all this trouble just to share Jiang Yinian’s photos with others?

After a long silence, he changed his mind: Not posting.

Believe it or not – he simply didn’t want Jiang Yinian subjected to others’ commentary.

Jiang Yinian naturally had no objection to wrapping up early: Should we keep taking photos then?

Having come all this way, it’d be a shame not to capture a few keepsakes. He Wenshuo suggested: How about I take some solo shots of you?

Jiang Yinian: .

Dressed in women’s clothing? No way. Running into someone familiar while looking like this would be social suicide.

If there’s nothing else, I’m going home to sleep.

His afternoon class started at four – still early with plenty of time. He could happily nap at home and attend class refreshed later.

Alright. Seeing his stance, He Wenshuo abandoned the idea and put away his phone, reaching for Jiang Yinian’s hand again. Let’s go, I’ll walk you back.

No need. Jiang Yinian checked his watch. Don’t you have class soon too?

He Wenshuo shrugged: Doesn’t matter.

The trip from school to home didn’t take long.

The moment Jiang Yinian got home, he headed straight to his room to remove his Equipment – off came the Wig, changed clothes, instantly freeing himself from all constraints.

He Wenshuo kept busy too, following behind Jiang Yinian to collect the Wig, fold the clothes, then set them aside before rummaging through the assortment of bottles on the table for makeup remover. He grabbed cotton pads to help wipe off Jiang Yinian’s makeup.

The Eyelashes, foundation, lipstick – as the vibrant makeup faded, it revealed Jiang Yinian’s originally delicate and handsome features.

Jiang Yinian held a cotton towel, staring at Jiang Yinian’s face from left to right. Even after all these years, he still couldn’t help but marvel.

He was truly beautiful.

Jiang Yinian was just incredibly good-looking—whether wearing makeup or not, with or without lipstick, with long or short hair—none of it affected his beauty.

Done yet?

Jiang Yinian tilted his head, stretched his arms with a lazy yawn, and stood up from the chair to go wash his face.

Mhm.

He Wenshuo tossed the makeup remover cotton into the trash, put away the bottles and jars, then picked up the clothes Jiang Yinian had changed out of. He scanned the room, wondering where to put them without causing clutter.

When Jiang Yinian returned from washing his face, he saw He Wenshuo holding the outfit and casually remarked, Just toss the clothes in the washing machine.

He could take them out to hang dry before heading to school.

He Wenshuo looked down at the clothes. The washing machine might damage them. When he bought them, the store staff had specifically reminded him that they were hand-wash only. Last time Jiang Yinian wore them, He Wenshuo had taken them back to his own place to hand-wash.

Jiang Yinian grabbed a cotton towel to wipe the water droplets from his face. If they get ruined, so be it. It’s not like I’ll wear them again anyway.

True.

But He Wenshuo glanced down and, thinking it safer, placed the clothes in an unobtrusive corner of the room to deal with after he returned from class.

After setting the clothes aside, he didn’t forget to add before leaving, The snacks are on the dining table in the living room. Grab some if you’re hungry. I’m off.

Jiang Yinian responded, Okay.

As soon as He Wenshuo left, the room fell into instant silence. Jiang Yinian set an alarm for his upcoming class, lay on the bed scrolling through his phone, and unknowingly drifted into sleep.

Sunlight streamed brightly through the window.

Jiang Yinian sat bewildered at his desk, seeing He Wenshuo standing right beside him.

Hadn’t he gone to class? Why was He Wenshuo still hovering around him?

But there was no time to ponder further.

Looking down, Jiang Yinian realized he was wearing an unfamiliar light-colored dress again.

Why had He Wenshuo put him in a dress again?

Even more confused, Jiang Yinian tried to move but felt immobilized. Turning his head slightly, he caught his reflection in the mirror.

When had the wig been put back on his head?

Jiang Yinian heard his own voice, faint and distant, asking He Wenshuo, Why are you making me wear this again?

He Wenshuo replied, You don’t want to wear this one? We can switch to another.

Jiang Yinian: ?

He watched as He Wenshuo picked up that dewy lipstick from the table again and carefully dabbed it onto his lips.

Jiang Yinian asked, perplexed, What are you doing?

Hadn’t they already applied lipstick today, visited his school, and taken photos? Why was he reapplying it now?

He could barely make out He Wenshuo’s face clearly, only hearing his voice.

He Wenshuo said, This lipstick looks good on you—makes you seem very kissable too.

Jiang Yinian: ? What.

Utterly bewildered, Jiang Yinian let the lipstick be applied in his daze.

He saw He Wenshuo put away the lipstick as if having accomplished a great task, then, just like usual, suddenly cup his face with both hands. After examining him left and right, He Wenshuo leaned in and kissed him directly.

Jiang Yinian’s eyes snapped open as he bolted upright in bed, disoriented for a moment until he recognized his own surroundings.

He covered his face with both hands, rubbing it over and over, until he finally confirmed it.

He had just been dreaming.

In broad daylight, his dream wasn’t about eating, but about being kissed by He Wenshuo!

It was all He Wenshuo’s fault for suggesting he pretend to be his girlfriend, making him have such messy dreams.

Jiang Yinian was fully awake now.

Fortunately, he had heard that things that happen in dreams are the opposite of reality.
