After Transmigrating into a Professional Bootlicker, I Messed Up - Chapter 79.1
Extra Story 4 Part 1
If there is a next life, and you have nothing left, I will still love you, simply because you are you.
—Lin Luo’s love poem for Ji Chi’an.
Lin Luo couldn’t remember how she felt when she died, only that it must have been a happy moment. She imagined herself lying on a garden chair, basking in the sun, enjoying the scent of flowers, listening to Ji Chi’an reminiscing about old times. She listened and drifted off peacefully.
She had always feared Ji Chi’an would leave first. Without him, she had no idea how to face life. Since she was young, she relied on him, clinging to him, feeling that as long as he was around, everything in the world would be perfect. He was seven years older than her, and she was always afraid that if he left suddenly, she would cry like a child, with no one there to comfort her.
But he stayed healthy, and now, at nearly eighty, he was still the most handsome and upright old man. Despite her pampered nature, she ended up leaving first.
But she had no regrets in this life. Everything had gone smoothly; she had the best lover, friends who had known her for a lifetime, a son who had grown to be as accomplished as his father, and he had his own beloved girl and children.
She had won many awards, gained great respect in the entertainment industry, and even in the year of her passing, people looking at her photos still marveled that time could not diminish her beauty.
Lin Luo had no regrets; she had lived a fulfilling life. Her only sorrow was that after death, she would no longer have Ji Chi’an. This life was too short. If she could, she wished to love him in life after life.
When Lin Luo opened her eyes again, she was in a hospital. The warm breeze was blowing, and the sunlight was soft. Her father was dozing off beside her, frowning with his head propped up, while her younger brother sat across from her doing homework. She raised her hand—she was in her delicate, fair, twenty-year-old form again.
She was back at last! Lin Luo grinned and thought, ‘Call me Lin, the Invincible!
She looked up at the calendar. It had only been half a month since she left.
Maybe it was because of the world’s design, but after experiencing such a long life, her memories of this life were still clear. Her mind had returned to her twenty-year-old self, while memories of her life as a character in the book seemed to fade, like an old story. Only her love for Ji Chi’an remained, etched into her heart, impossible to ignore.
Still, Lin Luo was quite open-minded. Though she didn’t have life after life, having that one life was enough. Now that she was back, with her father and brother, she planned to live well.
She nudged her father and, in a soft, slightly hoarse voice, called out, “Dad.”
Having gone half a month without speaking, her voice came out dry and raspy, and saying “Dad” brought tears to her eyes. She was saddened by how much trouble she had caused him, keeping him at her bedside despite his age.
Her call jolted the two men awake. Her father grabbed her hand, his eyes instantly red, his mouth moving silently as he struggled to find words. Lin Qi, her younger brother, sprang to her side, exclaiming, “Sis!” before rushing to the door, shouting for the doctor.
Lin Luo reached out and brushed her father’s cheek in reassurance, only to feel how thin and prickly it had become. “Dad,” she teased, “you haven’t been eating well or shaving, have you?”
Hearing her say a full sentence, her father felt certain she was truly awake. He gently patted her hand, barely holding back his emotions as he repeated, “You’re awake—that’s all that matters. I was so scared, honey.”
The man who had faced every challenge in life was reduced to a vulnerable child in that moment, his life dedicated to protecting his two children after losing his beloved wife. Her brother’s voice continued calling for the doctor, and he stood anxiously by the bed. “Sis, are you okay? You’ve been asleep for half a month! I haven’t been able to go to school because of you!”
Her rebellious, fiery brother, dressed in a simple white t-shirt, with his hair flattened from worry, stood there with all the tenderness of a child.
Lin Luo smiled at him. “Don’t worry. I’m fine. I’ll take you to Los Angeles to watch a game sometime.”
“I don’t want to go—I need to focus on my college exams.”
He pouted and stepped aside for the doctor, the cool school idol taking a backseat to the worried brother he had been during her illness.
The doctors and nurses examined her for a long time, finally confirming that her body was completely normal.

In Chinese culture, expressing regret for a past life or yearning for a future life reflects the deep belief in reincarnation and familial duty. Lin Luo’s wish to love Ji Chi’an forever is a classic theme of undying devotion that speaks to many hearts in China.
Did you know? Hospital visitors often bring tangerines to represent prosperity and health for a recovering patient. Lin Luo’s dad might need a big basket of them to celebrate her return!
Her dad’s vulnerability is powerful! It’s a rare depiction of male vulnerability in traditional Chinese settings, where strength and resilience are emphasized. Here, it’s his love that’s stronger than any “toughness.” (つ≧▽≦)つ
Fun fact—many modern Chinese dramas love to include “hospital awakening” scenes where characters’ loved ones are right beside them. It’s become a classic way to show deep family bonds!
What about you? If you had a second life, would you want it to continue with the same people? Tell me your thoughts! (* ̄▽ ̄)ノ
